level lowermost neck, good cork, colour has distinct brown character, shows its age, good nose, perhaps the best part now, classic cedar and lead pencil Pauillac, fine, with real character and poise, palate relatively lightweight, fruit has faded, dominated by acidity, still with good balance and very good accompaniment to Irish lamb rack, good but not great and that was probably always the case through its evolution

perfect level and cork, cellared since release, distinctly brown tinge but still lively colour, nose very good, shows age but still very clean, complex restrained fruit, certainly not past it on the nose, palate rather acidic, still with aged fine fruit but not much intensity or power, probably was never particularly powerful, fruit and tannin now in the background, still very enjoyable but over its peak and in gentle decline, drink up, although it won’t change that rapidly in the next years, however clearly on the down rather than the up

Nach einer Stunde in der Karaffe war er in der Nase zunächst noch sehr speckig und streng. Im Glas entwickelt er sich dann relativ gut und macht Spaß. Schöne Farbe ohne deutlichen Kern, kühles Aroma, starke Stachelbeernote, dezente Frucht, mittlerer Abgang alles in allem sehr sauber. Bald trinken!

Older Wines at Martin's (Martin's House): Tobacco, figs and slightly medicinal. Smoked bacon, mushrooms and forest notes with intense acidity and even more tobacco.
Clearly on a lower level than current releases but still quite good

Bricking colour still fairly dark for its age, not much sediment in bottle though. Rusty nails/beef blood on the nose, though the wife thought it smelt like brandy. Fruit still present, notes of sour cherry, but getting tired. No hint of wood though, this bottle has certainly seen better days. Still very pleasant to drink.

Tasted with UCBEAU, although I got to it a bit later than everyone else. Smelled like the inside of a dead campfire along with old cherries and mushroom. Tastes dirty and a bit gritty, sun-dried tomato, old book, very faint cherry flavors in the background. Fun as an exercise but pretty tired in my opinion.

Opened and decanted for about an hour. The nose was a crazy mish-mash of dusty red soil, smoked meat, campfire, char-griller, and no fruit at all. On the palate, after about an hour, we found some dried red fruit, dusty soil, and dried herb flavors. More time brought those into harmony but never quite to the forefront. I think this wine has just started a downward ascent, but the amount of acid and tannin present were pleasing.

Color of a pot of tea in the glass. Faint nose of cedar opens up to include black tea and stewed raisins. Echoed on the palate with some firm tannins on the finish. These let go after some air time turning into crushed velvet. Very nice accompaniment to French bistro fare. Drink up though, especially if you have some better vintages to hold on to.

Ten times better than the '81 I recently had. This wine was still quite young tasting. I could have sworn it was a late nineties. But it wasn't very expressive. It was muted and tranquil. Still quite dark for a wine this age. Even the cork was almost perfect. There were signs of age but not that of a 30 year old. Yet it feels as if it wasn't meant to last this long. It's hard to explain. There wasn't much substance. Finish was short.

Old/mature Bordeaux (FOF): Orange/braun color that shows clear signs of age. Some black currant and cherry are still found on the nose, seem smoked?, with some chemical tones and iodine. The taste is smooth and cold, with leather and tobaco. Some manure makes the overall picture less elegant. The aftertaste is ok. With some air this wine developed downhill and gets a more tertiary feel to it.

Another very mature looking wine, very pale with an almost orange colour and a large watery browning rim. Deliciously attractive nose, a mix of currants, cinnamon and clove. Light bodied but full of flavour. Lush fruit flavour with notes of spice and cedar coming through. There's a little tannin here giving the wine some grip, but it seems perfectly mature. Very good length, with red currant becoming the dominant flavour and great acidity making this a lovely palate refreshing wine. B+/A- (CECWINE)

Nose dull and earthy; taste completely without statement; boring; no finish. Dies on the tongue and nothing arrives on the palate. Hard to believe this was bottled.

Cherry and blackcurrent. Very smooth. Smell of mushrooms, almost truffle. Medium finish, enjoyed it very much.
