Better than I remembered from 2017, this bottle showed great vitality and freshness. Bricking at edges, nose of black olive and oregano leads to dried clack cherry, loam, earth and minerals over a long finish. Simply splendid.

Still enjoyable but a little past its prime and fruit was fading fast. Nice nose and palate with great tertiary notes. Soft body with soft tannins. Good complexity, finish a little short. Drink up soon. (IG)

the colour is still quite deep ruby but the scents are that of a nicely matured wine. Tobacco, cedar but really the key is sweet decadent cherry fruit. wonderfully aged. don't wait too long on this, great spot now.

Cherry, leather, earth, spice, mushroom and leather. Beautiful long dry finish with dried raisin fruits. Lingering silky tannin with near perfect balance. Nice acidity in this Tignanello. Grip and concentration. Starting to dry out a little. Drink up.

Suberbe vin. À mon grand étonnement, ce vin présentait encore une belle acidité et de tannins bien présents. J'aurais dû garder ce vin encore quelques années. Par contre, j'ai beaucoup apprécié ce vin. Des notes de bois, fruits et poivré animait ce charmant Tignanello. Il faut dire que 1988 était une très belle année enToscane. Bref, vous allez assurément apprécier ce vin!!!

Dark garnet. Intriguing nose of duty leather and thin soil if you really worked for it. Sharp red fruit and big tannins. Some tertiary earth tones struggling to get past the rusty, iron aromas and mouthfeel. An odd showing - Seemed old without being mature. Off balance and rather disappointing.

This is starting to show its age, but opens up beautifully if decanted and left in the glass for an hour+. Drink with food - it's got Italian old dusty funk that needs food to mellow it out. Showing a small amount of oxidation on opening, but evens out as it aerates. Still spicy with a bit of good balsamic.

Wine Flock Dinner (Caro Mio - Chicago, IL): Lovely feminine nose. Awesome leather, pencil, cinnamon and rustic rose petals. Rusty nail and red tar. Old log cabin. So nice. Smooth palate. Great acid.

Very young, very concentrated and fantastic bouquet like a top Bordeaux with cassis and blackberries. Tannins still there, wonderful complexity. Good acidity and plenty of fresh fruit. Just a bit short at the end. Much better than the 1990 and the 1995 which I have tasted within the last 3 months. Wish I had more of these bottles..lovely!

Brick. Aromas of tar, spice, tobacco, cherries and brown sugar. Medium bodied with some dusty tannins still present. Finished quite nice. The wine was beautiful at the start, but seemed to fade a bit towards the end of the meal. I wouldn't hold on to this wine any longer. (93 pts)

Based on prior comments, I opened and poured immediately without decanting. Served in Riedel Sommelier glasses-this was a stunning beauty. Tobacco, black cherry-the wine was singing tonight...too bad it was our last bottle.

Beautiful light red with brickish edges. Tobacco and herbaceous undertones on the nose. Clear fruit. Very supple in the mouth. Good length. Great finesse. Overall an excellent structure but it lacked a certain depth. It may have been a touch old. Lacked a 4th dimension that I struggle to describe.

Actually delicious to drink for the first 45 minutes. The nose, not so enjoyable at opening. However, palate delicious with mild tannins that opened after about 15 minutes. Longevity was short-lived as the meal was completed.

A nose of tobacco, smoke, cherry, red berries and with earthy undertones. The palate is superb, with long savoury flavour and great complexity and interest. This bottle seemed to be right at its peak.

don't know about the other notes here, but to me this wine is going down hill FAST. seemed very mature and i dont mean this in a good way. i would drink up if i were you. with that said, sweet array of flavors and good aromas - it felt as if it was very good some time ago. tasty at times. I give it 84 which is the highest score under "Good" which it was - a good bottle of wine.

Ruby escuro com halo atijolado. Nem o rótulo nem o liquido aparentavam a idade de 19 anos. Alcaçuz, funghi, tabaco, terra molhada se mesclam no aroma fino, vivo e complexo. Na boca mostra ainda bastante estrutura e elegancia com boa fruta, acidez viva e taninos bem presentes. Sinais de envelhecimento sim, mas com potencial para aguentar ainda vários anos. Excelente/Excepcional.

Rótulo e contra-rótulo (que então estampava a análise química do vinho) em perfeitas condições. Garrafa trazida da Itália por um amigo, adquirida em loja com cave subterrânea onde a temperatura é baixa e constante, e a umidade, ideal. O nível do líquido na garrafa estava logo abaixo do do gargalo. Rolha com infiltração equivalente a 2/3 do seu comprimento. PI. Rubi escuro, halo com traços atijolados, aparentando menos do que os 19 anos. Aromas finos e complexos, inicialmente liquirizia e um misto de ginja, terra molhada e funghi. Taninos muito macios mas ainda perceptíveis, ótima acidez, meio de boca amplo, com bom volume, e boa concentração de fruta. Admirável vivacidade e frescor para um vinho com quase duas décadas, mostrando que poderia agüentar ainda vários anos. 92-93pts E/E.

TWC Wood-a-bridge Offline (Alta Rossa Restaurant, Woodbridge, Canada): Dark ruby colour. Aromas of black licorice, black plums, spice, and earth. Medium-bodied, silky texture, and nicely resolved tannins. Shows plums, currant, cherry, and earth on the palate. Long finish, 50+s, with black plums and licorice. Fantastic wine, and a perfectly stored bottle.

Tignanello Vertical Tasting and Dinner (Establishment Restaurant, Manchester): A very fragrant nose, with some red fruit, but also a hint of TCA. The corkiness seems to develop into more VA, and there's a certain musareyness to the nose. Very wide palate, but it's clearly affected by something. Lacks fruit. Quite grippy on the finish, with rather high acidity. This is clearly faulty, but actually not overtly unpleasant. But, leaving it to settle in the glass, the TCA shows through again, along with loads of volatile acidity, which goes some way to masking the TCA. Another corked one, damn!
