Winner Winner Brunello for Dinner. I always love an aged Brunello and this 2001 does not disappoint. Improves well upon decanting. Black luscious dark cherry with earthy tones.

Full bodied, classic brunello. Decanted about an hour before dinner (pappardelle ragu); a little brick color around the edge of the glass; nose lighter than I expected but very full mouth feel; mild tannins and flavors of black cherry, mushroom and forest. Perfect match for the meal!

I think this wine is getting better. Classic Brunello notes, good backbone to pair with food (in my case, spaghetti with meat sauce and Asian stir fry with lots of garlic).

Noticed the dried black cherry the first night, which was pleasant. Still lots of black tea and leather, but enjoyed this bottle more with the fruit noticeable. Paired nicely with Pasta e Fagioli the first night, and chicken enchiladas the second night.

Pulled to have with Costco pizza, then finished it over the following 3 nights. Same notes as before, lots of black tea and leather the first night. Third night is tea on the nose, but sweet red and black fruit in the mouth?

Not decanted. Slow-ox'd for three hours. Ruddy burgundy/garnet colour with some bricking at the rim. Pretty nose of sottobosco, prunes, dried black cherries, black tea, anise, dried figs. Full-bodied, with a nice, lush texture. Fine tannins integrating nicely but still gives a bit of chalkiness on the finish. Good balance with black fruit and more evolved tertiary notes both present at this time. Moderate-long finish ~35-40s. With a few hours of air, the chalkiness on the finish dissipated, making for a more complete wine. Really enjoyable stuff. Drink now-2020.

Brooding nose of dark fruit, wood and sweat. The palate has good depth and a lengthy finish, though it takes a bit of air to tease it out. Drinking well now. 91-92 points

Dessicated nose - dried berries and leather. Palate seems a little hollow; drying with a slightly smokey run off. There is still a seam of concentrated fruit which runs through it but the drying tannin finnish disappoints. A flat spot or the start of decline

Nice, but heavliy wooded, even after 2+ hours decanting. Long finish, but lacked the same character as when we had this a few years ago. Fruit was partially masked by vanilla oak. Fruit which was present was that of dried figs, currants and muddled spice. Agree that palate was cleft, especialy in the mid palate.

Aerated 2 hours. Consistent aromas and flavors as the bottle I had 3 years ago, but that's not to say that this hasn't gotten better, because it has. The restrained richness, owed to the purity of the fruit and prescient balance and structure, is wholly enjoyable now, with some upside potential still to come. Long, clean finish, lovely tannins. Drink thru 2018+.

Little sign of its age. Needed an hour of air to become expressive. Excellent balance and quite elegant. Modern in a respectful way, not showy. Very good.
Excellent wine. 10 years old, but still have firm tannins, but round and polished. Elegant, complex, structured. Could wait some 4 or 5 more years easily.

Great QPR. A crowd favorite amongst some very good options it is just some smooth. A modern Brunello for sure in a great vintage. Still drinking well and similar to the way it did a few years ago. Polish and sooo good.

Didn't keep notes but this is drinking beautifully. Tannins are soft and the acid was perfect. I drink 1 of these per year and it is improving each year. Still has plenty of life.

This has been relatively approachable of late and this bottle showed quite well. Nose of dark fruit and ripe blackberry with cedar hints and vanilla. The palate was very dense with a medium acidity. Medium finish. Could age a bit more but nonetheless enjoyable. Paled in comparison to the 1999 Cerretalto.

Second day. Still a dark black cherry colour with a hint of browning to it. Slight almond/marzipan and dried beef nose with a whiff of alcohol rising. Palate is a little dry but balanced with good intensity. Went well with sausages but also stands on its own. Very good, long, lovely finish.

1:30p decant. pretty light on sediment. nose of cherry with light vanilla, bit of alchohol, and finishing with the smell of "black gold" potting soil. nice earthy palate of dried fruit, strawbery to cherry. good backbone of acidity. 5:00p nose shows soft cherry with earth and a nice minerality in the background which adds freshness to the nose. palate has really nice acidity, nice cherry and medium lenght finish. the terrior is showing more with every minute in the glass. 7:45p wine is completely open. nose and palate showing many differnet nuances including rose petal, espresso, vanilla and spice. the terrior comes thru perfectly, a little piece of tuscany in my glass. very enjoyable wine if you like brunello's and pay attention as this wine is mostly nuance, best of 4 i have had, one per year. 3 to go, looking forward to next year's trial...

Biggish nose decanting then a mix of meat and sour cherries. Four hours later it's a bit beef jerky. Better with food - without a little dried although it leaves a chocolate coating on the finish. There's also a dried rosemary and bay touch on the palate. Drink with food; it's youthful party days have passed.

Colour was showing a little age on pouring but nothing in the glass. Nose had a hit of alcohol but then dry leaves, dark cherries and dried shitake mushrooms. Palate is clean and a little tart: initial impression is the tannins have softened a fair bit although still grip at the end. This really is clean to start - wateresque but not flat. Dried cherries and blood with a finish and grip that accumulates.
Showing its changes but still a good life ahead.

Young but not shut down. Fruit-forward, with tart cherries, spices, and a hint of raisins on the nose. The palate is thick and solid, and the tannins are abundant and still quite firm. The finish is long, with tones of anise and cedar. Very nice, but it deserves more time in the cellar. From 2011 until 2020.

brick red with a watery edge and 3 tight transitions. nose of earth, black truffle, toffee, herbs, minerals, black cherry and vanilla. a huge mid-palate with vibrant acidity and a very, very long finish. this is medium bodied with rounded, sweet tannins and a hint of resin and roasted fig. delicious. drink through 2021. approximately $40 on release. I'll open my other one in 3-4 years.

Final longo e recheado. Excelente.

Another business dinner - based on previous tasting. Still stood out as a fantastic wine but some of the opulence had faded, or at least seemed to have had faded. Still notes of cherries and a tight structure bodes well for this wine.

Birthday Dinner #1 w/ basecadet & mimik (Toba Restaurant, Toronto, Canada): Not decanted. Popped and poured; consumed over two hours. Medium-dark ruby colour. Juicy, brooding nose showing aromas of currant, minerals, black licorice, black plums, and a hint of raisin. Full-bodied, really juicy, with crushed red berry fruit, coffee, and plums. Very firm tannins. Moderate finish, ~35s, with minerals and red fruit. So very young - still showing lots of baby fat. This has plenty of potential, especially if the 1999 version is any indication. 91+ points.

Had three bottles, the second of which was slightly corked and there was some slight variation between the two but what a wine. This had an expansive bouquet which burst from the glass and such and beautifully balanced palate of rich plush fruit but structured which lingered that it was a real joy. Unfortunateluy didn't take detailed notes as it was a business dinner.

Took into an Italian restaurant I used to work at. We drank sangiovese in different forms. Lamborghini Trescone 03, which was popped and poured and not straight sangiovese but mostly. Then Isole e Olena 'Cepparello' 01 decanted 2hours 100% old school sangiovese and finally this 01 Campogiovanni decanted 3hours. All interesting and served there purpose but this Brunello is so silky smooth it won everyone over hands down. This will obviously cellar but the fruit of the 01 has it drinking so well that from this estate I wouldn't worry about trying to make it better. Decant and drink merrily as you wait for your Siro Pacenti and the like to settle down.
