  • The 50 Big Bash (Harry's NYC): In truly great shape. This was much more fresh than I would have expected. Still the oxidized style of wine making which makes it a bit intriguing. Drinking very well.

  • Kleur: Vol goudgeel. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Smaak / Afdronk: 16 + Algemeen / potentieel: 8 = 91/100

Colour: Full golden yellow. Aroma / bouquet: Restrained nose, serious but pleasantly oxidative, honey. Taste / Aftertaste: Pronounced acidity, thick-juicy and mouth-filling, very tertiary but pleasant. Seriously long finish. General / potential: Initially I wear this wine for an extremely mature Ermitage Blanc. Impressive, matured Rioja that will remain drinkable for a long time to come. 50 + Colour: 5 + Aroma / Bouquet: 12 + Taste / Aftertaste: 16 + General / Potential: 8 = 91/100

  • Rich dry honey, marigold, and white apricot notes. Beeswax and distinct saline notes on the nose. Remaining acidity leaves a balanced impression on the finish. Great wines with enough age. 93-94

  • J&VB with RIBBS (Brunswick House): Served blind this is obviously mature Rioja, and feels like Tondo. Mid 70s maybe. Some waxy lanolin but also a lightness and a freshness. pristine. Persistent and nuanced. Maybe just a fraction light on the finish, but that's super picky. Really lovely wine. ****

Inolvidable!!!!

  • Bodegas Lopez de Heredia, Hosted by Maria-Jose Lopez de Heredia (Berry Bros & Rudd, London): Sourced from the Bodega Lopez de Heredia for this tasting. The colour of this just tells a story of its own, amber, glossy dark hue. The nose is just a complex mix of a nutty edge, waxy, ripe lemon. Just a beautiful nose. The palate continues on a similar tune but there is just something missing everything is there but in a way are not in tune. Still pretty solid and granted this could well be an issue of bottle variability still it did not feel as complete as the 1991. Always a great experience though when coming across these old whites. 94

  • Outstanding bottle. Cork was in perfect shape, but I could literally smell the wine when I cracked through the wax capsule, which worried me a little bit. Beautiful light golden color. Lovely LdH nose full of honey, caramel, almonds and slight bit of that cellar funk that really brings you right back to the bodega. The wine was silky smooth on the palate, but intensely focused with a nice streak of acidity. Sadly, this was the last of the lot that we brought home from the winery last year - I guess that means it is time to go back.

  • "That 70s Show" Rioja Tasting with Helio San Miguel (Instituto Cervantes, NY): Medium lemon color. Intense nose of grape nuts cereal (barley) and boiled potatoes. Silky on the palate, very dry and a bit of a one-note. Interesting for a glance.

  • Complex, liqueur-like nose with marzipan aromas dominating. Great acid, plenty of fruit, very nice wine

  • Spainish Treasures #3 over Lunch at Mugaritz (San Sebastian, Spain): There were 2 bottles of each wine and for this one we got the bad bottle. Clearly hit by oxidation. The other table loved the '73 and whereas theirs was the lightest in color of the 3 in the flight, ours was the darkest. All I got was blue cheese on the nose and palate.

  • This wasn't bad but came in the middle of many other wines and didn't really stand out.
