Unfortunately the Butteaux was corked and was replaced by a 1992 Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne.
The MdT was thankfully in proper shape. Barely mid yellow color with a nose showing citrus and tropical fruit notes with hints of chalk. The palate showed similarly, the fruit here is yellower and sweeter and lacks the crispness and acidity than I normally associate with Raveneau having more in common with the Mersaults in the next flight. 1992 was not a great Raveneau year IMO

Summer 2016. From a magnum. I was looking forward to trying this as I love Raveneau 92s, and MdT is my favourite of his 1ers. The wine was a perfect example of a top Chablis entering it's tertiary stage. There was still beautiful acidity and minerality. The abundance of lemons and limes offered a hint of the vintage. After a few minutes, the wine calmed down and revealed a drier, earthier side. The next day, there was still an inch or so in the decanter, which had held up well and was still delightfully honeyed and mushroomey.

From a bottle purchased on release and stored in a cold, dark cellar. The wax capsule was completely intact and the fill level was to the eyebrows. Pale gold color, distinctive demure Raveneau perfume of lees and lemon peel. No trace of oxidation on the nose or palate. Tasted of butterscotch and lemon curd, with a finish that lasted for 45 minutes. The wine did not fade over the course of 3 hours, but it did disappear. An astonishing premier cru Chablis, still blooming at the age of 22.

Deep golden appearance with a very mature bouquet. Tart apple and citrus on the palate. Both flabby and grippy at the same time. Not a great example of this wine.

We kept going back and forth on whether this wine was damaged. I think Kathy liked it better than Art and I, although in the end I don't think it was damaged. I just don't have enough experience with aged white Burgundy.

Grand Blanc at Aquarelle French Restaurant (Austin, Texas): Terrific acidity and balance, with a ripe pear nose which developed into candied fruit as it warmed, this 18 year old premiere cru held up well. A medium gold color, it had good intensity and a soft palace with lots of flavors: bosc pear, granny smith apple, honey, caramel, honeysuckle, nectarine, citrus, some almond and nuttiness. Most tasters thought this still young and was a very good food wine.

A little one-dimensional at first showing a bare trace of toast and some citrus rind character. As it was introduced to a dish of lobster and foies gras it kicked into life taking on some white mushroom, mandarin and custard apple flavours. It just got better and better with air and was singing as the last drop went down the throat.

With grilled grouper, and grilled shrimp and fresh corn. A very fine wine with the typical Raveneau perfume which gets in the way of my palate. Otherwise elegant, quite dry but not steely and extremely drinkable. Not too old but perhaps not my cup of tea. Get rid of the perfume.

Casual Burgundy Dinner, Wine Mostly Served Blind (Carlos - Highwood, IL): Tasted blind. Showing a hint of age on the nose. Very good fruit remains rich on the palate, but without the length or nuance I would hope for. Very good minerality and acidity provide energy on finish. Others liked this better than I did tonight. Drink up if you own this.

Beautiful well resolved wine. Fresh yet perfectly supple tannins. Just a beautiful well stored white. No sign of oxidation.

Meh. Over the hill. Lacked focus, complexity, and finish. Grannysmith apple, pear, steely.

This drank great with king crab legs. It's light and has a nice mineral quality along with some citric acid on the finish. Drink now or never.

An evening with Michael Broadbent (Christie's London): Chablis-and-a-half, as Michael Broadbent put it. Wonderful minerality, very lively, opens up beautifully, hint of hay, a classic.

Vertical: François Raveneau Montée de Tonnerre 1983-2001; 2/22/2006-2/24/2006: Group 5th Place. My 4th. Not as sharp in acidity as the previous though far from flabby. More river rock and zesty lemon lime notes.
