this wine is drinking perfectly - at it's peak. light red to red in color. the nose was still more fruit driven but has evolved some. It has medium concentration and a medium length finish.

Lovely wine. Opened and drunk with a peppercorn steak, this immediately showed hightoned green notes of menthol and pine on the nose. On the palate those merged into nice medium bodied red fruit. With air, the nose receded a bit and the palate stayed open. Acids kept this lively but were in no way spikey, they were as I like them, a component that framed and balanced the fruit.
I decanted half of this into a clean 375ml bottle, corked it and put it in the fridge. Opened and drunk 2 nights on (after letting it warm of course), the notes were identical. I'm not sure that this will evolve into something with striking secondary flavors and aromas but, frankly it's in a nice place now and not every wine needs to be aged 25 years to be appreciated. Given the vineyard, this is a nice early Cadence that is drinking far better at 11 years old than I'd have thought. It makes me want to open one of the 98 Taptiels which should be a significant step up... but on the other hand, *those* I think will really be special in a few more years.
Oh, one serving note - there's a fair bit of sediment so I'd stand this up for a few hours and decant the wine off the sediment.

I have had very poor luck with older Cadence wines, including a bottle of this same wine last year. There has been a lot of bottle variation, with many marred by VA. This bottle, however, showed no VA and was remarkably fresh and vibrant. Well-balanced, classic Columbia Valley flavor profile. Long finish. Who knows what the next bottle has in store for me, but this was a very pleasant surprise.

Still hanging in there, but this is definitely on the downslope. Consistent with every bottle I've had of this particular wine, there was literally half an inch of sludge in the bottom of the bottle.

I've had many Cadence wines, and I have to say that this is probably my least favorite so far. That said, however, it is nevertheless an enjoyable wine. It shows strong merlot characteristics in it's color and nose, and reveals a hint of greenness and astringency on the palate which might be due to the cab franc component. Lush dark fruit on the nose and palate, which persist on the finish. A hint of shoe polish, coffee, and bitter chocolate as well. The tannins were a bit dry and intrusive, growing more so on the finish, which makes me wonder how long this will age. I would definitely recommend decanting to remove the astonishly heavy, chunky sediment this wine threw.
