Mostly Northern Rhone Dinner with Sir Charles (Sole Ristorante Italianom, San Mateo): Very nice, beautifully resolved medium body red fruit, but shows a nice youthful character as well - like the old guy on the court who can still school the young guys every now and then; great acidity, fully resolved structure, I'd guess this isn't going to improve, but will hang on nicely for many years.

NYC Offline - August 7, 2009 (Harry's Steak, NYC): A bit hot on the nose with aromas of sour cherry. Medium bodied with marked acidity and flavors of sour cherry and beef blood. Not a world beater, but a good introduction to aged Tempranillo that settled down after opening and tasted more rounded. Food friendly and paired well with steak.

Beautiful clear ruby color. Aromatics of sour cherry, leather, vinegar and orange rind. Flavors of all the same with a touch of black pepper. This ia a classic fine old aged bottle of Rioja Reserva with all the classic aged flavors but a bit light in power. I decanted this fine bottle for two hours to bring out all the flavors. A wonderful example. Who wants to share the next? I have five more! E.

Light medium red. Hint of funk. Strawberries and duty earth. Perfumed with cedar and tobacco. Great flavours with a bit of mineral. Lot's of acidity. Textbook old Rioja.

Label says Bosconia, but cork says Tondonia. ??? Lovely and translucent with some orange tints but no browning. A little closed when popped, but opened nicely after about 2 hours in the bottle. (No decant and it didn't throw any dirt.) Long and velvety, with soft red fruits and good acidity. No moldy scents or flavors. Paired wonderfully with an impromptu, Spanish themed-dinner. A recent purchase from K&L. I love it that LdH releases these older bottles from time to time.

Vibrant and young as "older" rioja tends to show. The acidity plays well and fruit stays bright and crisp.

This smelled of old stuff! Mushrooms, earth, but also some nice sweet fruit. Sweet-and-sour in the mouth. A bit over the top, maybe.
