Tasted blind, this wine had a medium red center with puce rims. The medium+ intensity nose of black cherries, plums, tan spices, and minerals with attractive.
In the mouth, this wine was medium bodied with nice richness, acidity, and length. It developed quite well in the glass and showed rounded tannin and nice balance.
This actually seems a bit young and could use another 5-10 years in the cellar. At that point, my score might improve by a point or so.

Salon Focofi Paris walkabout and dinner, so no detailed tasting notes. From Methusalem. Still dense and a bit brooding. Good but clearly outshined by the 1979 RSV.

Absolutely gorgeous perfectly mature nose displaying sweet slightly dry black fruit, blackberry, black cherry, sous bois, a hint of stem, caramel, soy, Vosne spice, Asian medicinal chest, black tea and earth. Perfectly mature palate, layer upon layers of rich sweet black fruit, silky, rich and oily, medium acidity, earthy mineral, still noticeable but fine tannins, and a long ripe black fruit driven finish with sous bois and cinnamon at the end. The nose remains very expressive. The palate is slightly angular. I am once again surprised by how well this wine is drinking.

Purple color with orange rim. drinking with 89 Leroy, this bottle is more purple, wilder, bigger palate, fuller body, more mouthcoating, more powerful. m+ tannin, good structure. however this bottle has no signature Vosnes spice.

Leroy Week; 8/24/2021-8/27/2021 (Hong Kong): 10079/20532. Not sure if a bottle condition problem but where is my pronounced LT spice and elegance? Dark fruit, baked plum, woody, somewhat tired. However, very good structure, somewhat regal even, and notable among the same vintage lineup. (Questionable provenance as discovered on second day.) 92?

Mature wine with elegance and the typical spice notes most la tache wines have in common. Nice red color with aged light brown rim. The bouquet developed nicely in the glass over two hours. Decanting the wine helped a lot to let him evolve as we didn’t want to wait for ever before finishing it off. Medium oily body with great nose of warm forest soil that expelled more herbal notes towards the end. Great experience if you value older vintages. But I wouldn’t leave it in the cellar any longer.

La Tache in Tuscon: While consistent stylistically with prior bottles, this 89 was the best bottle I've ever had. Drinking it slowly along side the 88 and 66 actually helped show it's terroir, and kept it from competing. Provenance prevails once again!

Excellent bottle from my cellar purchased on release. Drank alongside 66 and 88 LT. Although placing third in the group, it held its own nicely. Very youthful for its age. Deep ruby core with slight amber rim. Dark fruited. Beautiful asian spice nose similar to the others. Nice structure and balance that led to a nice finish. A small amount left over and drunk the next day. It really held up. Soft tannins and excellent fruit and balance.

Good but not a great la tache. Opened up with more time in the glass. Dark fruit driven. Got the DRC structure but missing the La Tache sparkle. Still young. The 89 Richebourg outshined it tonight.

Ken's 60th Birthday (Smyth - Chicago, IL): 89/95/96 La Tache Flight. Vibrant ruby red color. Holy hell, this has incredibly intense aromas of red cherry, florals, asian 5-spice and earth tones. Palate has layer upon layer of flavor. Still rather youthful and rich. A rare treat.

Ken's 60th Birthday (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): Intense spice driven start with ripe red and black cherry throughout. Good concentration from start-to-finish, but especially robust on its finish. Great length, also finishing with rich spice. A wine that keeps getting better with age.

This wine is in it’s tertiary phase. Nose of black tea, soy, forest leaves. There is a nice tertiary sweetness. Plenty of sweet and savory goodness on the palate. A perfectly resolved wine in a sweet plateau. There is no substitute for age. My WOTN.

La Paulée de New York Gala Dinner (Pier Sixty - New York NY): Late night, small glass, brief note. Served alongside the 1990. LaTâche Lunch with a Ramonet Starter (Binkley's - Phoenix AZ): Served as our concluding "pièce de résistance" for the lunch, this showed exactly as we hoped. Ripe black and red cherry start-to-finish, close to fully mature with the concentration to continue to hold and drink beautifully going forward. Baking spice throughout, most charmingly on the nose. Structure shows more tannins than acidity, which gives an ever-so-slightly drying finish.

First of all a disclosure that I am not hugely into red Burgundy wines and my knowledge about the region is limited. DRC La Tache 89 was a very good wine, with nice acidity, good balance, black cherry is what I mostly got. It displayed some remarkable freshness given its age of 25 yrs, and was not showing any signs of falling apart any time soon. So I score this wine 92 point on that basis.
However, given the inflated price of this wine I must say that the 92 is absolutely taking price out of the equation. Personally, I have a long list of wines I prefer to drink that do not even cost 5% of what this bottle of DRC sets you back. So while I am happy to have had the privilege to taste a healthy amount (about 1/3 of a bottle) of this wine for the bucket list, I will spend my bucks elsewhere.

There was a firm, hard, acidic quality to the fruit that took away from the wine. The fruit offered a nice cherry essence with fennel and dried herb notes. But there was far more tart than sweet sensations in the hard personality that left me wanting riper fruit. I am sure there are many people that will love this wine. But it did not work for me. Please note, this was served double blind. OK, I admit, I am not the biggest Burgundy fan on the planet, but for the record, the 1990 La Tache was stunning. This on the other hand was merely a good, but not close to great wine.

La Tache dinner (The Boardl Room at Capella Hotel Georgetown): This was served along with the 88. A great privilege to taste them together. Two excellent wines with very different personalities. Expressive decadent nose displaying ripe black fruits, blackberries, blackberry jelly, also classic Vosne spices, soy, lovely dark flowers, black tea and mint. Fully integrated harmonious palate, lovely decadent black fruit driven palate impression, silky, nicely integrated tannins and lovely seamless finish that resonates. I preferred this to the 88 from the beginning where some tasters initially preferred the 88 and then this. This wine is drinking beautifully at the moment and a great surprise.

This was showing liquorice, leather and some spices on the nose. Nice attack on the palate, and it gave a really fresh feel with quite an amount of acid. The tannins where definately there, telling that this wine is still an infant and should still be kept many years in the cellar. Did find some spices on the tongue, along with some elements of oak/barrique. Patience is required, and I hope it will be better with time, as this was maybe a little disappointing given the wine. Still, it was very nice.

Medum red. Very smokey on the nose with hints of meat and "wet" tobacco. Nicely wide and structured in the mouth with good sweetness, and density. Quite acidic and astringent with a somewhat bitter aftertaste, and dare I say it - unripe - element to it. The wine did flesh out considerably, so this is probably just to suggest that this is another wine that should hibernate for many more years.
