Very nice on the nose when opened, oak, berries, violet. Medium to full body with bitter finishing. A decent one seems to have a lot of potential but need more complexity on the palate. Tried on day two also, still a lot on it. Very nice wine.

Strong leafy, earthy and spicy notes, nicely balanced with medium tannins right out of the bottle, but benefited from a short decanting and some glass time. Another reviewer mentions notes of green bell pepper which I also noticed and was happy when they mellowed as it breathed. wonder if this is related to destemming, crushing, using a perhaps less technology centric approach to wine making… The rustic quality of the wine was in the end quite endearing as it’s more delicate nature was revealed over time. This is one worth a repeat, a compare/contrast with a similar California Bordeaux blend, or even a vertical tasting as a previous reviewer experienced… good fun and thought provoking!

Nose: Blackberry steaminess. Palate: More stemmy blackberries with the dark fruity side of cabernet sauvignon really coming through, grape skin; overall, has a mellow and one-dimensional mouthfeel; honestly, it reminds me of the wine I used to make out of Mattawa WA (which isn't necessarily a compliment).

After buying into a case of the ‘19, of which is in a league of its own for this label, I went for the next-oldest vintage: that being the ‘17. 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot on this vintage - 60% new oak. Opened up very sharp, needed about 2-3 hours before I even considered a true pour. Once it oxidized for a bit, it started to show some life, plenty of fruit - blending black and red fruits seamlessly - notes of plum, blackberry, and boysenberry. There’s kicks of oak, mineral, and vanilla, with a tremendous amount of spice, making this unique enough to justify its price point. Excited to dive into the highly rated/talked about ‘19 in the coming year(s), I can see why Dufort is starting to pick up steam.

Unfortunately 35% of production was lost due to severe frost. Made from a CS based blend with 9% of Merlot, aged for 18 months in 40% new oak. Deep garnet colour, ruby hue. Intense aroma of blackcurrants, cherries, toast, leather, herbaceous notes of green pepper, violets. Medium+ body, smooth and well structured with intense earthy and herbal flavours of graphite and black fruits, lovely complexity, some floral notes too. Smooth and velvety medium+ tannins and well integrated high acidity.

Amazing silky tannins, with a curvaceous body and a striking middle palate. The finish carries on with purity of fruit. Blackberry, black cherry, walnut shell, lilies and black licorice. Haunting and the finesse is quite evident. Decant for a couple of hours or wait about three years, and study for many... Drink 2024 -.

Red and dark fruit, floral, herbal with notes of spices on the nose. Quite polished and dense on the palate, good acidity, rounded tannins, good length. 90-91+

Vansinnigt vacker nos!
Kraftfull men elegant i munnen. Kommer bli ett riktigt fint vin med åren. Lite lättare stil.

Better in the bottle than in cask, the wine is forward, medium-bodied, elegant, fresh, forward and expresses a nice sense of purity in its red fruits.

Amsterdam UGCB Tasting and Winemakers' Dinner (Beurs van Berlage / Eden Hotel): Trade tasting, brief note. Hard to assess, slightly disjointed today, not rated. I notice that I also did not rate this last year, for a similar reason. Coincidence?

Bordeaux 2017 En Primeur - In Bottle Tasting (Montreal): Always a favourite with its soft blackberry, black plums, cassis, dark cherries along with a soft palate, fine tannins and round finish. Certified Organic.

This is an elegant, lighter styled, red berry-oriented wine with good purity of fruit, a lot of bright acidty and leafy, floral notes.
