La Tache in Atlanta: Acidic, showing its age, and somewhat less fruit than expected. A beautiful bottle, in fine shape, that was very good on its own and even better as part of a vertical.

La Tache and '96 Champagne (Atlanta): Decanted and filtered to remove cork bits. Great acid with some fruit remaining. Bright and crisp and very enjoyable. Best near the beginning as additional time did not improve and would have been better if we hadn't had to decant it so early to remove the cork pieces.

Great condition and lasted over 3-4 hours. Very juice and energized. extremely elegant and dangerously difficult to stop drinking. a bit lacking in concentration but at this age, it's excellent.

000615/25384. Very similar experience as last bottle: initially quite muted, gloriously ethereal after some time. The fruit, the spice, the tea, the herbs are still there, so gentle and precise. It just keeps expanding while firmly sliding through the palate, concentrating on a sweet and spicy finish. Like a ballet dancer—unusual for La Tache—soft but with strength. 98

DRC La Tâche Vertical Dinner (Il Ristorante Niko Romito - Bulgari Beijing): 2 bottles of the 76' opened. Sweet nose of tea leaf and sous bois. Good purity and intensity on the mid-palate with racy acidity. Surprisingly soft tannins for this vintage. Great wine but didn't quite match the quality of the 72' in the same flight

000628/25384. Cellared since release, so the condition is immaculate. So fruity and fresh with the perfect balance. Strawberry, cherry, tea, green herbs, juniper, mint, geranium, violet, meat, cedar, vanilla, savory and caramel. The nose is incredibly complex and convoluting, equally gentle on all the flavors. The palate is precise and encompassing at every angle, filling the whole mouth with an exceptionally long, broad and elegant finish. Drinking really well for its age with great acidity backbone against the hot vintage sweetness to keep the youthfulness. Initially I thought it was in the low 90s, but with time this wine turns out to be extraordinary. 100.

This was a "holy sh*t" nose that made the room fall silent. Epic wine, so profound and not a hint of being over the hill with delicious fruit and exotic spice. Medium dark color, this perfectly stored bottle was an incredible honor to drink. A wine that will make you weak in the knees...

Open nose of red cherries, rose, sousbois and mint. Very fine texture and detail on the palate... the tannins literally "melt" and the finish is long with a mint touch on the end. They said not the best vintage but Wow!

Brown red in color, slightly murky. Nice secondary nose with loads of VR spices, plums, herbs and tea. Rounded palate with good remaining fruit, layers of flavors, good balance, and decent drive for the bottle age. Drinking very well now, mature but not oxidised, will not improve but very lovely.

An exceptional bottle or rather magnum. Opened at the age of 40 at a "la paulee" style event in Hong Kong. Etheral nose, combining classic rose petals but mixed in with some earthy aromas. Consistent in the mouth, with sweetness (expected from a hot summer) but unexpected acidity (terroir strength). One of the wines of the evening, and there were some exceptional bottles that were consumed on the evening!

Oldies but goodies!: The second bottle of the night appeared and tasted much younger. More red fruit of strawberry and raspberry. I may even describe it as relatively young. Gorgeous with the cheese course and so different than the first bottle which had a more mature profile.

Oldies but goodies!: First bottle fill at about shoulder. Upon opening, could smell the mushrooms and earth slowly exit the bottle. In the glass, it as pure rustic pleasure. Equal weight to the loam, earthiness and mature delicate pinot fruit. Really went well with the mushroom soup.

50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 6 + Smaak / Afdronk: 11 + Algemeen / potentieel: 7 = 79/100

Mature DRC with Bill Randolph (Jim and Gaby's - Hyde Park IL): DRC tasting. Dried rose petals on the nose with exceptional red cherry and big, complex spice. For its age this showed amazingly fresh fruit, which was at least as prominent as the secondary character. Both the fruit and mushroom flavors expanded with more time in glass. My WOTN, almost everybody's WOTN. Note: owner had purchased wine on release and stored it correctly since.

Bill Randolph DRC Tasting (Gaby & Jim's): Light crimson color. Interesting smoky dried rose and cherry nose with a distinct candy straw note. Really lovely round sweet red fruit and plenty of secondary notes adding a nice complexity. A great mature burg and easily my WOTN.

From a dubious bottle. The label looked very suspect and contained the wording Patriarche Pere et Fils La Tâche 1976". Is this a genuine bottle of La Tâche? I have no way of knowing, but I doubt it. In any case, here is the note on the wine that was in my glass?Red with a brownish hue. Slightly corked impression, yet not your classical wet cardboard" character. This blew off after about 15 minutes. The wine seemed quite thin and unattractive in nature. It did put on some weight, and had suggestions of Pinot Noir fruit with good balance. This is not a remarkable glass of wine though, and the score is probably much too high?

A very hot vintage and it shows in the wine. Very pleasant aged Burgundian nose, secondary characters showing mushroom/earth a touch rustic but very true to climat. Slightly stewed fruit and clumsy on the palate suggesting this one may be over the hill. Good for curiosity but not worth the money.
