1994 Quarles Harris VP. Decanted about 9 hrs. Still a dark color but starting to show some light fading from its youth. While just starting to show some secondary characteristics, this is still mostly youthful plums and red stone fruit. A touch of licorice, slightly softening tannins and fabulous acidity. Maturing at a slightly faster rate than the top VP’s of this vintage, and a little less complexity, this is still youthful and full of upside potential. I loved the long lingering finish this possessed. 92/100

Another Trader Joe's buyer about five years back. Nice port iodiney penetration. Fig. Dryish. Perhaps a bit past peak, but very nice. Broadbent scale 3.

VT94 Port Horizontal: Quite sweet blackberry fruit with fine-grained tannins. Almonds and spices with coffee/vanilla. Very lovely balance with a great creamy structure.

Another delicious bottle. Made by the Symington family, which also makes Dow's and Warre's vintage wines from Oporto. Significantly cheaper than other vintage port wines of comparable age. $40. Will buy again. This bottle tasted good over the course of three or four evenings. Although less leafy sediment than other bottles of Porto, it does have some fine sediment.

Fantastic little wine really, holding up very nicely in the bottle. Dark plums, dark cherries and a slightly sweet smooth medium bodied mouth feel. Finish perhaps a little shorter than would hope, but overall a very enjoyable experience. Will keep for a good few more years yet, no doubt whatsoever.

I love aged vintage Porto. This bottle cost $40. Worth it. Some Portos don't continue to age well after 15 years. This bottle still has fruit-forward flavour, with the complexity and subtlety that come from a well aged Porto.

Terroirwijn Vintage Port 1994 tasting and lunch (Villa Augustus, Dordrecht, NL): Mature appearance; very dominant note of lovage but backed up by sweet fruit (berry rather than cherry); the palate seems a bit disjointed but it has stuffing, balance and energy, flavours are a bit muted; very good length. Needs more time.

Enjoyable port, but lighter than I expected. Red fruits and plum with youthful acidity and tannin. Drinking well now for the lively fruit, but still many more years to go.

Thinner in the mouth than you'd expect for a port, and the palate reflected this. Perfectly drinkable but one-dimensional. Not worth $40 when you can find vintage from more reputable producers for about the same.

Not bad for $40 at Trader Joe's. Decent fruit profile. A little hot on the palate, but good with dessert.

Caramel, cherries, raisins. Not as much presence as I want, but OK
