This wine is way way past its expiration date … but what an amazing experience. First the age-related aspects: not exactly oxidized, but definitely nutty. Fruit has faded.
Now the positives: still structured with lots of acidity and to keep everything stitched together. Honey, peach, pear notes, lemon curd. Perfectly balanced. Voluptuous mouth feel.
Now the odd: no chance I ever peg this as a Sauvignon Blanc if I did not know it coming in. This is an unusual wine, and the only one I can compare it to is Melka, from Napa, with similar structure and texture (but more of a tropical fruit array).
Overall - I would not seek this wine on the secondary market as my bottle was perfectly stored and still showed signs of senescence… but if I stumbled on one, I would snap it up. It’s unique, masterful, delicious, and a homage to a legend.

Round with stone fruits on opening, lush with bright acids and tons of complexity. As it uncoiled over a few hours, some ammonia and grassy notes began to emerge and I liked it most on the PnP, but what a youthful and well aged wine. I dare say it presented younger than the 2009. Beautiful.

Intense white floral notes along with an edgy herbal note. Palate was focused and narrow, and while a bit angular added mineral and chalky notes that persisted for many minutes in the finish. A while that doesn't beg for attention but once you seem to notice, it draws you in and won't let go. Emotional.

(SYP) PNP. A subtle nose of grass, tropical fruits, cream and earth. It is layered with mineral and umami flavours, and has a sharp line of acidity. There is high acidity and a touch of oxidation to the finish. Quite pretty but not my type of wine.

Good, not great, with plenty of herbal funk, grapefruit pith, vegetal note, earthy minerals; med round, no real tertiaries...wait, this is a 2005! great for this age, kudos to Didier. This is really solid and a testament how good SB can age. Hedonists at Katana.

Coming back to after two years. Color is medium gold. On the nose: butterscotch, marzipan and some funk. Very unusual nose. On the palate: Quince, pineapple, almonds, salinity. It’s very reductive and sherry like and while unusual , it’s quite good to me. Maybe this is where older Dagueneau wines go to. I have 4 more bottles of the vintage, so I am going to keep aging them and see what happens.

very ripe on the palate, pretty soft, still got toasty notes on the nose but probably over the hill. Acidity was still here but not so much, with a slightly bitter finish. Later showed pear and acetone notes.

pale lemon gold; grapefruit zest, hay bale, fennel seed, a tiny bit cat pissy that no one minded; supple palate weight; mature & intriguing, showing a softer delivery & lower tense acids. very good but might have preferred younger when there was greater fruit equilibrium.
NY Eve first course, so note from memory. mature for sure, but evocative & swell accompaniment to food.
Fully developed and drinking at its peak. Acidity slightly starting to fade and the tertiary aromas are dominant at this point. Clearly a good wine but not my style

Color: Pale yellow Aroma / bouquet: Beautiful bouquet that differs significantly from the bottle I tasted on November 29, 2019. That wine was tertiary and was characterized, among other things, by tones of Sherry. This wine appears considerably younger. Fresh bouquet with notes of lime, flint and pineapple acids. Quince and grapefruit on nose. Oak is upfront but not overpowering. Notes of tropical fruits and lime with good acidity. Good effort for a Sauvignon Blanc that isn't typically as well liked.

Green apples, hint of pineapple . Tart lemon finish. Very dense on the palate. This is a very good wine but I think many may not appreciate . A sav blanc for grownups. I am a huge Dageneau fan and it's been a bit since I drank one. Reminds me of being at Scott's in Mayfair .

[Magnum] Fresh and grassy nose, pineapple, lemongrass, Inca Cola. Big projection. Palate is lush and round and straightforwardly delicious with white orchard fruit, and with nice minerality and sufficient acid. Very expressive aromatics, great nose. That’s got to be one of the best Sauvignon Blancs I’ve ever had.

Unlike last bottle, very pale and undeveloped at age 12 (my companion felt it was at peak; I think it's holding its best in reserve). Seems to have everything you expect from this wine in a good vintage, just not quite yet. Potentially (95).

Medium/light gold color. Nose of orchard fruits, minerals. Palate showed citrus, baked green apples, quince, key lime, white flowers. Medium weight, layered finish. Really luxurious mouthfeel, nice secondary notes through the mid palate. Crisp and precise.
This is an 11 year old Pouilly Fume still drinking fresh and crisp. Very special wine...excellent

WTDS at Tilia: Rhones Among Others (3/2/17): Light gold color. Drank 1+ glass over an hour. This really was quite mesmerizing. Not everyone loves a wine that has this kind of focus and gripping acids. But, I do. The nose fills you with a tangy lime and citrus aroma on top of a mineral laced nose. The palate is laser sharp with a splendid precision to the deeply, lime sweet tart laced flavors. This is lime and provocative citrus in the best possible way. The palate has an indelible minerality that works in concert with the citrus fruit and tons of dry lime extract to make a quite remarkable wine. Excellent length, piercingly good on the palate. 93+ to 94pts.

Opened for anniversary dinner. Nose was a little oxidized. Palate was a little past its prime but not that far past that it wasn't enjoyable and interesting. I could tell I would have loved this wine a few years ago. Still nice though.

My first Pur Sang with some age. As usual with Dagueneau, it tastes more like Dagueneau than sauvignon blanc. Oily texture, rich and powerful but with a precise acidity and mineral spine.

To my palate this is still showing well. Straw to slight golden with melon and restrained citrus (not the overwhelming grapefruit of warmer climates) on the nose. On the palate, it showed more tropical and still with acidity to balance. The finish wasn't as rich and long as remembered it, but it got better the longer it was open. I gassed and kept half of the bottle for a 2nd night and it was as long and luscious as it was 3-4 years ago. While not declining to my tastes, I wouldn't hold one for improvement.

Still impressively light yellow. Gorgeous floral, grapefruit rind aromas. Surprisingly light weight, precise citrus fruit, great acidity for 2005 Loire white and excellent mineral cut. Much younger and fresher than the only other bottle I've had. My only quibble was some lack of texture and intensity in the mid-palate. In this way, it is more like Dagueneau's Blanc de Fume than the bigger, richer Silex.

Taste: Light bodied with medium/high acidity that is very crisp, but not too over powering. The feel is really lovely with layered and regal tones of white peaches, minerals, white fruits, and some leesy tones.

San Diego WineSpectator.com Offline, 3/1/2013 (Sbicca Restaurant, Del Mar, California): Clear light straw yellow. Brilliant notes of fresh daisies, white grapefruit, lemon zest, green kiwi, green apples, with stony minerality, light smoky oak, and electrifying acidity. French Laundry Dinner #2 (Maple Grove, MN): This seems to be holding up better compared to some of the recent notes, even though I do see the aging difference with the Silex out-living the Pur Sang. Dagueneau wines are always a treat for me and is what good Sauv Blanc should taste and feel like.
Extremely light yellow color with a strong minerality on the nose and notes of an herb flower blend. Amazingly smooth on the palate even with high acid. Flavors of stone fruit and a touch of granny smith apple. Paired extremely well with a homemade version of Thomas Keller's Peas & Carrots, as well as pan fried tilapia and sea bass with a saffron vanilla sauce.

This is a wine that I could just sit in a corner for hours to take in all the aromas. Very complex on the nose with different types of citrus, tropical and exotic fruits, and driven with minerality like no other other white wine I have experienced before. Palate is intensely vibrant with all the flavors and a finish that persists for a long time. Hope Didier's son can continue making wines such as this one. 96+

If you have one left, do yourself a favor and get some tortilla chips, ring the top of your glass with salt, scream 'ole' and enjoy the 05 Dagueneau margarita. Damn, seriously, this needed to be thrown in a blender with ice. Count me in the "I do not get this" crowd. As sour as my kids sour worms, huge lime and lemons, aggressive on the palate, though somewhat weak and watery. Sounds fantastic, huh? :-) In fairness, probably would be better on a hot summer day. And I should say the nose was actually fantastic and classic with hay, cat pee and citrus; the score reflects the nose being well worth it (90+) and the palate being a disaster (70).

From the wine list at Topolobampo in Chicago. An amazing SB. Lemon peel and flowers. Tastes as it smells with a nice minerality. An amazing mouthwatering finish that keeps coming back in waves.
Still so very primary. Palish green, little more than a varietal announcement at first. As it opens, the fruit density reveals itself, but it's only a slight opening. Still several years away. Patience will be rewarded.

Brought this to remember the man a year and a day after his passing. Did not write any TN's but this was a tight bottle -the cat was here as well as some serious pungent and acidic aromatics -i did not find the complexity and structure I have associated with Dagueeau's wines before. I wanted to revisit this later but there were just too many other great wines tonight

Looks bright, almost watery. Most weird, funky nose, intense and very difficult to describe, with sweet lemon and pharmaceutical notes, gunpowder, maybe blood indeed or (as a friend put it) "plain dichlorvos". Good acidity, and the palate is dominated by the same (elusive and obtrusive at the same time) theme as the nose, showing as well unpeeled lemon and some spice. Long, fresh, mineral, but (with almost aspirin-like aftertaste) way too "chemical" in profile. Not my cup of tea (or was it pee). Still very impressive.

Dinner at Fiddler's Green (Southwest Harbor, Maine): This wine has changed quite a bit since the last time I had it. If it's possible it has become more delicate and subtle with hints of cat's pee, minerals, lemons, slate, and sea air. In the mouth there were more tropical fruit notes like guava, lemons, mango, and a persisting mineral component that lingers as light as a feather floating across the beach on the salty ocean's air for close to a minute.

Great Loire SB nose, everyone at the table wanted to know what I thought of it and I told them it was often associated with cat piss. The palate was so much lower in acid than I could have imagined. The nose was definitely French, the palate was so ripe and soft it could have been Napa Valley.

Took this to a wine tasting so limited notes, nothing formal. Served at room temp popped and poured. Straw colored. Nose was extremely complex making this a wine I could just smell all night long. On the nose there was citruis mostly white grapefruit, a little funk, major pepper action leanning toward jalapeno, and white pepper on the tail. On the palate there was lemon, grapefruit, with rosemary, slate minerality, and a little white pepper. A rather long finish for a white and nicely balanced. There is a nice bit of creaminess to the mouthfeel to the wine from the oak I guess, but the acidity is still there as well to counteract it. A real masterpiece of a wine and noone did Sauv Blanc like that man, and he will be missed. Many people were amazed to find out it was an SB after the smell and taste. Drink or hold short term. 50+5+15+17+6

Suble, but wonderful. Drank this alongside a Marcassin Three Sisters 2004 Chard, which is an extremely extroverted wine. The Dagueneau is quiet in comparison. It has a wonderful balance of citrusy fruit, tart acidity and striking minerality. Initially, my guests were drawn to the Marcassin (which I had to admit was also a wonderful wine, although very different). But by the end of both bottles, at least half the guests said that they appreciated the subtlety of the Dagueneau more. I don't usually associate Dagueneau with subtlety, but maybe so in comparison to Marcassin.

Wow. Ridiculously complex floral, citrus and mineral aromatics that surround a core that is both refreshing and smooth at the same time. In other words, a fantastic counterbalancing acidity to a wine that essentially wears the soft cloak of new oak like a glove. Delicious, with ripe grapefruit, slate, lemongrass, peach and jalapeno leading the way on a frame that is simultaneously heavy-set and light on its feet ... think of a 300 pound ballet-dancer and you'll get the idea. A stellar sav blanc that makes one rethink the potential of the grape.

50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 10 + Smaak / Afdronk: 16 + Algemeen / potentieel: 9 = 90

Opened one tonight in memory of Mr Dagueneau. My first taste of the '05 and this is terribly young but terribly awesome. This is what SB is about: terrific acidity and perfect balance. Nose is salty, chalky with nice melon, lemon skin and grapefruit. Med body, silky (almost velvety), mineral with again lemon skin. The finish is incredibly long. This is more austere than his Buisson renard and is an elegant and to me textbook Pouilly. Thank you.

Enjoyed with Kim in Las Vegas at Joel Robuchon's at the MGM Grand. As good as I remembered it to be. This is in my top 3-4 favorite whites, an excellent very dry, smooth, clean, surprisingly complex with good acids and minerality and only slightly fruity sauvignon blanc which paired unbelievably well with the seafood tasting menu that we did. Muted floral bouquet with a hint of apricot, mint and lavendar with minimal aftertaste. Primary flavors were apricot, tart green apples and some underlying grape fruit. Very expensive and very hard to find but in my mind well worth the cost, just a poster child for how good a dry white wine can be. Highly recommend this.

For the first hour this wine was amazing. Guava, passion fruit, meyer lemon, grass. After that the flavors kept narrowing. The last of the bottle was just a ton of grass and green bell pepper. I would have scored it higher if it stayed as interesting and layered as when I first popped it.

Certainly what one would expect from both producer and varietal: Complex aromatics of key lime, fresh cut grapefruit, grapefruit rind, dried herbs and a touch of wet hay. Rich and viscous but with bracing acidity to make it lively and nervy. Operates at a different level than 99+% of all Sauvignon Blanc IMO. It is extremely good if you like the region and the varietal. That being said it is also very expensive.

Emotional.

My second to last Daguneau. Usually fruit forward, but perhaps I let this go too long. A bit flat. Clean, mineral, but not the fireworks I was hoping for.

Richard's BDAY Coi -- I love its lanolin/almond paste/"cat's pee" personality. I think this is an exotic and lovely white, loaded with dusty minerals and steely fruit. Paired wonderfully with several Coi dishes (the ones without sweetness).

Off the list at The Square in London. Really expressive nose of flowers, thyme, lemon grass and a streak of mineral. Full bodied for a white with stone fruits, grapefruit and a long zingy finish. Just an absolute pleaser to drink from beginning to end.

At River Club with first courses. Very light yellow. Simple, straightforward varietal aromatics without nuance at this stage. Raw and elemental on the palate,
tightly wound, yet an infant with wise eyes. Should be put away for several years. Rating reflects only present development.

KSC02 does Dallas, Part 2 (Daniele Osteria, Dallas, TX): WIML93+ Straw color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of grapefruit dominates on this youthful wine with additional notes of wet grass and orange zest. Flavors of grapefruit and limes with some light notes of gooseberries. Vibrant acidity, medium body. Drink or hold. Drinking right about 93 points in my book right now but a + sign for improvement. This might eclipse the 2005 Silex with more bottle age that we tasted side by side at this tasting.
