I have found Baumard wines to be distinctly variable over the last few years, often premoxed, but when they turn out well, they turn out very well indeed. This is clean, without any hint of premox or TCA at all, a very pure expression of light peach, lemon and honey, with a long, dry, mineral finish, quite excellent.

Hazy notes from last night. This paled in comparison to the other savennieres we had last night. There was a grassy, acidic note that wasn't all that flattering. Once you got past that taste in the front palate, more normal chenin flavours did appear in the medium bodied palate. Although this is a low level Baumard wine, I do think it could last a while yet (B/B+).

Wow-- what a difference a year makes (or bottle variation perhaps). But much better than my prior disappointing two tastings a year ago. Similar profile-- lemon, lemon zest, dried honey, slightest hint of chenin-type oxidation (borders on beeswax), great grip, and long lemony finish. Drink now.

Full yellow. Low pitched nose of orange oil and wax. Wonderful balance of richness, minerality, acidity without any oxidative notes. Pure, subtle Chenin fruit. Fresher than my recent experiences with the Papillon. Excellent Savennieres.

Great acidity makes this a very refreshing drink. Lemony with a waxy apricot finish, this needs food to drink at its best. Plenty of life left based on this bottle.

Better than prior bottles, nose of lemon zest predominates over floral and honey elements-- palate of lemon and lime zest, dried honey, fantastic grip-- mouthpuckering, lipsmacking, everyone wanted more.

No real formal notes. I took this from the cellar when two other whites showed horrible noses of sulphur and oxidation. This was very nice when it opened up. True Chenin nose and flavours.

Bright yellow. Beautiful Chenin blanc nose. Slightly oxidized fruit. Lemon, pineapple and melon. Great flavous and a long dry finish. I really like this. Had from 1/2 bottle at Parkside.

Had high hopes for this wine as I've had some of Baumard's other whites and I really like Loire Valley whites anyway. That said, I was disappointed in this wine, at least at this stage of it's development. Had a little of the wet towel funk when we opened it, but that gave way to some white fruit and citrus nose. But it closed down again on the palette. Had it with Tilapia so I'm pretty sure we didn't overwhelm it with food flavors that were too strong. I've got a couple left of this and 2002 was a great year in Loire Valley. Maybe with some bottle aging it'll blossom? Right now it's about an 85.

Nose: not very fruity, but rather green and earthy on the nose. On the palate, it has good acidity with long and bitter aftertaste. Interesting wine that's worthy to try. Recommended!

Rather than repeat it here, I'd agree with Machiavelli's description, only to say that for me, the slight bitterness spoiled what would have been a very good wine. Rupert's "damp towel sulpher" sounds like his bottle may have been corked, and wasn't present on mine.

Clear, pale lemon-green core, water-white lemon green rim. Clean, youthful, high intensity nose of green apple, mineral, honey, pear, white flowers, apricot, peach, slight hint of brioche, just amazing pure Chenin fruit. Dry, high acidity, light-medium body, medium intense, pear, mineral peach on the palate. Medium alcohol (slightly bitter), Long finish. Wow is this good. Drinkable now but could definitely benefit from 5-8 years.

I love Baumard-- this wine definitely has an oxidized characteristic-- more so than I recall from prior tastings. It is past its prime. Drink up.

Lots of damp towel sulphur which spoiled the appley chenin - fresh and minerally underneath, but not enjoyable at present
