We had this along with the 2013 and 2009. The hot vintage shows here, but I think the wine is pretty good, considering that. Dark fruits, brooding, but not raisiny. Bigger, heavier but still retains enough acidity to keep it from being flabby. Dark soil tones, tar, licorice and tobacco notes. Comes across slightly sweet in comparison to the others.

This is a very successful 2003 showing none of the cooked and candied notes common throughout France and Italy in that year. Colour is still a robust red with little bricking. The fruit was perhaps a bit sweeter and more ingratiating than in most vintages and the body fuller. I commented on a previous bottle two years ago that there was less acidity and tang than usual but I did not feel that with this bottle. The Fèlsina class is very much present. I reckon that there is plenty more life here. My last bottle, however, so I will not be able to test that.

Chianti Classico Tasting at PRIMA: nose - sweet oak, cranberry mouth - licorice, fruit punch, full bodied, seems a bit disjointed. good potential. i think this needs five more years.

Drank half the bottle the first night, and the second half several days later after storing it in a half bottle. On the first night, it was a little shy on the nose and palate. There is some earthiness, sour cherry and a hint of mushrooms with firm acidity. After several days, it had softened a bit, and I actually liked it better. There was still the same basic flavor profile, but the acids were a little less prevalent, and it had a warmer personality. Overall not bad, but not the most complex or interesting wine.

Matt B. advised me to buy this one - and suggested 2 years of cellaring. It now exceeds what I expected - nice fruit range with bright cherries and blackberries - and a bit of complex earth and forest floor to make it interesting. The tannins are nicely smootheduot

Tannins chewy and a bit austere. May benifit from more time in cellar but may never be harmonious. Decent and reasonable to consume now with a couple hours in decanter. Thick dark chocolate and blackberry.

I didn't get much from this wine. After decanting for about 45 minutes there was very little on the nose. It had good acidity, but very mild fruit concentration and hardly any evolution of flavors in the mouth. Very little complexity here, and not real interesting.

nice, lovely with lots of fruits and some oak on the palette. Didn't fit to 2003 stereotype of too sweet, to jemmy and generally overripe vintage. Good job.

This was fresh and bright on the nose and palate with blackberry, floral notes, that nice Chianti earthiness, appropriate acidity and well integrated oak influences. Full bodied and great with dinner but I too would prefer more bottle age.

Allred brought this bottle and the 2003 Rancia to dinner last night. I found this wine to have a round texture and an elegant character but a little restrained at the present time. Some short bottle aging would help. Typical aromas of violets. Notes of black cherry and kirsh. I liked this slightly less than the 1997 which I had a few years ago and it was also a step behind the Rancia that was at the dinner. 89-90 points.

Garnet color. Blackberry, black cherry and earthy aromas. Rich, juicy red fruit on the palate, with nice balancing acidity. Vanilla and oak tones on the finish.
