Popped open a couple bottles of this with dinner tonight. Think we paid less than $20 a bottle. Drinking beautifully. Definitely over delivers for the price point. Not at all hot. Maybe some time in the cellar smoothed it out. Glad there is a case or more left. Be sure to serve it at cellar temperature, not room temp, to fully appreciate the complexity.

Never a great wine, it appears to be on a fast evolutionary track down. Much less fruit than the prior bottles, and the earthiness is more pronounced. Also picked up some brown tobacco or leather in the wine. Tannins are drying out, and the alcoholic heat on the finish is more noticeable. Glad mine are gone.

Not a bad little wine, but certainly not earth shattering. On the nose, black cherry, spice, and lots of oak. On the palate, medium bodied, with cherry, black cherry, a touch of earth, leather, and lots of toasty oak with a shortish finish. A little bit of heat on the finish was OK on a cold winter night. Bought originally for holiday wine parties, still have a couple left. Think I will keep the others for the non-winos who tend to swoon over the oak, but will fit the bill in a pinch as a pop and pour.

2002 Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon Innisfree WIML87,NOWA,NOWS
Tasted February 26, 2006 at home all by itself on a lazy Sunday afternoon while watching golf on TV (yes, it was a long match). 13.5% alcohol by volume. Purchased locally from Big Daddy’s Pioneer for $19.99 per 750ml. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glass. Plum to garnet color in the glass, slightly dusty hue throughout. Nose of potpourri, fertilizer (not bad that eventually blew off) and dried herbs. Showed some leather notes later. Flavors of black cherry, anise, red cherry and maybe a bit of bitter earth that softened over time. Decent wine for the money when considering CA CS prices but not great by any stretch of the imagination. Simple and straightforward. Drink over the short term.

Day #1. Concentrated. Plum and blueberry, long finish, a little hot. Might be better than the 2001 JP Cab. 3/4 left, stored c cork, no - pres or nitrogen, @RT).
Day #2. Deep ruby red color. Huge wine, superconcentrated. Less plum, more red fruit, blueberry on the finish, goes down hot--like an MP. Clearly not a classic cab but good stuff for $20. Would buy more.

Always a nice wine! There's dark fruit and some cedar on the nose and palate and it went very well with the grilled steak. Nice finish and balance.

Drank with John at Campisi's (outside).
Good cab but not outstanding or classic. A little high on the alcohol. Would buy more at $20.
