Chalky, elegant, quite intense, but lighter on it's feet than previous. So much clear cut red fruit here, a precise linear style. Still young, but early drinking window has opened. #AarhusVinselskab

Double decanted about 90 minutes before tasting it. A bit reticent on the nose (temperature?), Earth and strawberries on the nose. In the mouth the key word is elegance. There is a precision and length that satisfies the expectations and more. Good grip, and far more elegant than a Greves from the same village, producer and year as this. (I am DEFLATING MY POINTS and following more closely the description of the original scale, with "Very Good to Excellent (85-89)" covering this excellent wine. So this is no worse than my previous bottle rated 93).

Opened 3 hours prior dinner and left in the bottle - no decanting. Quite young and strong at the beginning but showing now all the typical pinot noir notes ! Fantastic ! This is usually one of my favourite wines but tends to be very different from vintage to vintage. 2005 shows high potential of another 15 years cellaring !!! Love it

Jim brought this wine of 05' and 16' vintages and we all found tasted differently. 05' was still very closed in nose and palate, but comparable had more burgundy characters of elegant, red fruits, floral nose than 16', as 16' we found some hot Califonia vins characters of fatter body, sweet herb nose. Obviously these two wines could lay for few more years.

I have had an up and down experience with this wine. Earlier bottles were a disappointment. The last bottle was very good and lived up to the price point. This bottle was a little off from the last one. I seem to mostly have bad luck with Red Burgundies......as opposed to Red Bordeaux. I believe I am going to rely on Northern Napa and Oregon in the future for my PN needs.
On the other side of the spectrum we have a tannic 2005 Joseph Drouhin Beaune Clos des Mouches, a heavy vintage + tannic terroir, I highly doubt this will ever gain balance. Tasted blind and I thought someone brought a Bordeaux to a Burgundy dinner! Dark fruited core with layers of ripe tannins. Deep pitched fruits but overshadowed by the austereness. I guessed Cote de Beaune 2005 / 1999 as soon as someone told us it was a Burgundy. Tannic! (75/100)

Not sure if this was a perfect bottle; perhaps every so slightly corked? Nose: a little reticient, but spiced wood berries. On the palate, vibrant red and dark fruit with cherry, and sour strawberry. Slightly angular. With more air in the glass, the angularity softens (but not fully going away) with more black cherry presence. Medium+ acidity. Fine grippy tannin. Lengthy finish. Benefits from food/cheese. 91+
Would give this a lot of air the next go around. Does not match the faded memory I have of a bottle I had earlier in 2020.

First from a case of 12 - and this is so young. Seems much younger than the 2009 tasted just last week. Deep red, sweet fruit, needs some time to show itself, immense concentration and tannins seems to be dissolving. Are the 2005's finally coming around? Not ready, but getting close. 92++ #Anarki#NYCReunion

Random Chill Night @ Arcadia!: Read that this is the oldest property owned by the Drouhin family. Nose was initially tight and musky, with some green notes. This bottle needs some air to open up. Then came black cherries and spices on the nose. Black fruits, red fruits, tinge of strawberries on the palate, with an earthy and spicy finish. Nice acidity and structure with a nice grip. Sappy and racy. This drank younger than a 2005. Enjoyed this tonight. Open up and good for many years ahead!

Very dark for a burgundy, but the nose gives it away. Pure Pinot essence with the Beaune strawberries as main differentiation. Succulent fruit with fine presistence. It may yet improve for a few years, and last a lot longer than that.

So good. But so young. This has everything I look for in Red Burg: dense, crunchy fruit; bright acids; minerals; and a light touch. But this is still very tight. That said, I have zero doubt--seriously, no doubt whatsoever--that this will be really phenomenal when it opens up.

From a bottle purchased upon release and cellared under pristine conditions, this Pinot is showing beautifully. Strutting its stuff within an hour of uncorking, it is a deep garnet wine with intense aromas of dark cherries, mulling spices, cocoa, black tea and savory herbs. Medium-bodied, freshly acidic and with nicely integrated alcohol (13.0%), it goes on to deliver flavors that mirror the nose. The tannins still carry some grip, while the oak is well-woven. Dense on the middle palate and finishing long, this an outstanding red Burgundy that is just hitting its stride. Enjoy it over the next 5-6 years. Drink now-2026.

Tasted over 3 hrs -med dark red ruby core no bricking -rich ripe dark fruit oak -med acidity, med weight faded dark fruit with a mildly sour note enveloping full mouthfeel but not heavy, med/med- tannins and a bit of oak signature on finish -less complexity than I would have anticipated, even though the primary fruit is fading away I think this needs more time to really shine

Viiniä korkatessa jännitimme miten 14 vuotta vanha viini on kehittynyt (kellarissani 8 vuotta). Viini ja ruoka oli hiieno elämys. Kannatti odottaa nuo 8 vuotta.

2019 New Years Day Tasting (Milton, GA): Pretty pale crimson color; strawberry and cherry, smoky, subtle herbs, mineral dust, denser and richer palate, late dusty mineral, grand cru quality yet not- that's Drouhin's CdM.

Cellar Work? (Alpharetta, GA): Much darker color than more recent vintages, the fruit profile showed darker richer fruit and definitely a more liberal use of new oak, with all that considered the wine still showed great class and silky and sexy, floral, easy to drink, buy larger formats because this will disappear quickly, yum.

Medium garnet. Initially closed, needed 1h of decant to open up. Even then the wine stayed aromatically quite timid with dark and red fruit, some forest notes. The palate was medium bodied, good density, also here a touch closed but not rustic. After the spectacular 2010 I was surprise to see how closed this vintage was. Great material for sure but better drink this after 2023. 94+

Wonderful, floral nose. A tad rustic, the fruit is dark. Soft and relaxed yet with unresolved tannins on the back of the palate. Juicy. Better than the Bonnes Mares from Bertheau.
Best showing for this wine from any vintage I have had. Super complex and nuanced. Incredible balance. High perfume coming out of the glass. Cherries, spice, charcoal, black fruit with serious depth. A lingering finish to go with everything else. A great 2005 that is drinking really well right now. Bravo.

Light-medium ruby red. Initially funky with sulfur on the nose which gives away to morello cherries, fresh churned wet earth, forest floor and woodsy spice. Quite tart on the palate showing mix of cranberries+tart cherries, leather, pan drippings, very high acidity and a clipped wood spiced finish. The fruit has faded to the background in this 375 mL bottle.

Via Coravin with Jackie and some good grass-fed strips, drinking beautifully with the food, with about 2 mm bricking, cherries and bitter cherry stones, developing fascinating high tones in the nose, mid and finish medium, lovely drinking right now. Wonderful typicity. Auction purchase which may have added a bit to its apparent readiness to drink, but all the better for that. $85/750 ml., WineBid

Somewhat of a rollercoaster, but excellent overall. Starts (and remains) very earthy aromatically, but with noticeable finishing tannins and being generally somewhat clipped on the palate. After two-three hours of air, though, the game changes. Most notably, an incredibly smooth texture emerges -- and it carries over all the way to the finish such that the prior-mentioned issues absolutely melt away. Compelling and totally gorgeous at that point. What does this mean for the future? Drink now after opening the bottle a couple of hours early, methinks, or wait a couple more years (or many more).....

The first bottle a year and an half ago was very disappointing. This bottle was very enjoyable. I agree with other reviewers.....light ruby red in color. Well balanced and elegant in style. Opened for 1 hour, but did not decant. ......and it did not seem to further improve as the evening unfolded. I am going to assume for now that the first bottle was a single bottle problem.

Light ruby red. Classic aromas of underbrush, iron, morello cherries, wood spice and hint of coffee. Intensely mineral on the palate with sweet-sour crushed cherries-cranberries, leather, medium acidity and inner-mouth perfume of violets on the finish.

Pretty good right now. Tannins have integrated, reasonable amount of acid probably means this can sit for at least another few years. Primary notes of red fruits still showing be starting to turn into secondary aromas. Balanced, silky. Will take my time opening the other bottle.

Ruby red in color. Red cherry, brown spice, soy and wet soil inflected nose. Savory red cherry fruit is framed with strong earthiness, medium acidity, slightly grainy tannins and a mineral laden finish. Not bad, but would have liked more sap on the mid-palate.

Deep, sweet, rich dark red fruit with a good amount of earth and minerality and abundant floral notes and baking spice. The tannins are still fairly firm and leathery and the finish is long and satisfying. This has a fairly sauvage mouthfeel and is drinking well with 4 or 5 hours of double decanting.

From a 375ml bottle at a world class restaurant, we were a little disappointed. Yes, had plenty of flavour (earthy red fruits and some mushrooms) but tannins were still rather assertive, broader and much less refined than I expected. Not sure to what extent our disappointment was caused by drinking a 2005 too young or whether I was expecting too much finesse from this vineyard...

From half-bottle; decanted for 1.5 hours. The wine offered red fruit, cherry, herbs, anise, forest floor, beef jerky and iron on the savoury nose. On the palate the wine showed red fruit, cherry, raspberry, strawberry, herbs as well as earthy and mineral notes, joined by a touch of anise on the finish, paired with medium-plus to high lively acidity, medium-level round, well-integrated tannin and very good length. A rather broad Burgundy that drank well despite of its youth.

Youthful dark ruby. Not much on the nose at first, then with time a some classic mature burgundy notes. Some fruit comes and goes. This seems to be right smack in the middle of the past the fruity baby fat stage and not yet into the drinking window. Big acid and tannin. Had it with a steak and still it was hard going. Needs at least 5 years.

Found a great deal on these at a local wine shop, and thought I'd commit infanticide on one. A packed-and-stacked Clos des Mouches. Powerful, juicy dark fruit and anise/block licorice flavors, with a pungently minerally backbone, complex fresh herb notes on the midpalate, and silky tannins on the long finish. This is young, but not painfully so -- it's very structured and quite backward at age 6. To my palate, no signs of heat or overripeness. At least 10 years away from really strutting its stuff -- this will be quite elegant in time.

I'm late to the Clos des Mouches bandwagon, but better late than never. The 05 was very good, with a ripeness that just verged on the edge, without going over the line. Really a nice wine, and a hell of a QPR. Plus my wife likes it, and whatever it takes to get her moved from bdx to burgundy works for me (whew, it could be DRC). Its young, but no reason not to pop one now and then if you have a bunch.

Reticent nose, but gobs of ripe pinot fruit on the palate. Very primal with plentiful tannins masked by the fruit. Pleasant to drink now, but will evolve, develop complexity, and ultimately merit a higher score.

Surprisingly good bottle of wine. Fine tannins, medium long finish, good balance, has some definition already. Good tone to the nose. Tasted much more complex than the 2001 Constantin Brunello that was served next to it. Did not seem tight or closed at all, surprising for a 05 Burgundy.

Beautiful, clear, bright, medium-deep ruby color, really pretty to look at in the glass. Smoky, mixed fruit compote nose, with very faint oak. There is also a blast of raw alcohol that almost stings the eyes but largely blew off with time in the glass. On the palate, along with the almost boisterously cheery fruit, the alcohol lends a peppery heat that dissipates somewhat mid-palate. Lots of very juicy acidity and minimal tannins through a slightly muted but clean finish. Generally a very modern, ripe and hot style of Burgundy, but it is still light and shows some elegance, and the fruit is so charming this is very pleasant drinking. I would drink these relatively soon, paired with the right food to handle the acidity, as I could see this becoming awkward with age. From 375ml bottle.

Medium color. Some funk and licorice right off the bat. Lighter entry but good, sappy, slightly briary red fruit with nice detail and some complexity even at this point. Moderate length with fine tannins and a good dose of soil. Overall, this has a cooler profile than many wines from this vintage. I liked it more and more as it opened.

Gorgeous. Still just a baby, but the terroir of this vineyard is shining through. The nose shows earthy shrooms, spicy raspberries, white pepper, and more well structured forest floor. The palate is medium bodied displaying more earth driven spice, dried herbs and lovely finesse. The finish is exquisitely balanced with beautiful acidity and an awesomely unique Old World black truffle and soft purple flower play. This bottling has many years to go before it reaches its maturity, but it is just approachable now with some time to breathe.

Dark red. Dark berry and spicy nose. Seems a bit restrained with metallic aftertaste. A bit more forthcoming on day two, but not much. Got lots of stuffing and long aftertaste, but clearly another 2005 in its shell.

Not exactly forthcoming but not shut down yet either. It's very tannic but the tannin is so intertwined with the sensation of crushed-rock minerality that the effect promotes textural intrigue rather than simply dryness. Powerful acidity contributes a lot to the structure too. Airtime makes it build in elegance and also brings out the woodspice.

A Couple of '05 Cote de Beaunes (Vin Vino, Palo Alto): Medium red with light edge. Some sour pickle barrel wood upfront, but more pure red berries come up with air. The wood is not nearly as prominent on the palate, thankfully. Evergreen adds complexity to the fruit, and the feel is much more airy and elegant than the Rossignol Clos du Roy. This clearly needs time but could be really good if it absorbs the wood which is currently sticking out.

nose: very aromatic nose with loads of raspberry, red and black cherries, forrest floor, earth tones, and asian spices
taste: tart acidity with great notes of black cherries, red cherries, sour raspberry, and asian spice tones
overall: the acidity is pretty big, and patience is very needed on this. A very tart and spicy red fruited attack that gives way to a really good black cherry finish. Not a flashy wine at all, but one that is very well balanced and everything is very well put into place. Give this one time and it will reward you. 90-93

Enticing aromas of pomegranate, raspberries, cherries, licorice and earth. This is one damn sexy Beaune that is both polished and detailed and possesses that great blend of power and weightlessness that the top echelon from this vintage show with almost relentless monotony. It was open, perfumed and flat out gorgeous with The Flower Drum’s Peking duck. After about an hour it started to tighten, indicating that slumber is not far away.

Crystal clear dark cranberry color. Generous fruity nose, with a hint of charred wood. Lots of sweet fruit on the palate, with zingy acidity, smooth tannins, and warm but pleasing alcohol. Very long and fruity finish. If this softens as it should, gains a bit of complexity, and the alcohol remains in balance, this could score higher.

Popped and poured. Intensely ripe nose of wild red fruits. Incredible structure. The ripeness made me think that the mid-palate might disappear, but the structure carried the intensity all the way to the finish- impeccable balance- this will age wonderfully. Incredible stuff.

Dark red with good color, no signs of purple even though this is very young. Nice sweet nose of raspberries and strawberries as well as brown sugar and some dark spices from the wood.

Viiniä korkatessa jännitimme miten 14 vuotta vanha viini on kehittynyt (kellarissani 8 vuotta). Viini ja ruoka oli hiieno elämys. Kannatti odottaa nuo 8 vuotta.

Great material for sure but better drink this after 2023. 94+
