  • Nice ruby color, the nose is white pepper. Some cherry flavors with a bit of spice. Decent acidity and medium finish. Although this was supposed to be drunk before 2015, I forgot about it and it was in my wine fridge and still very good despite its age.

  • A little prickly upon opening but it smoothed out. Deep color and good freshness and no obvious wood once it got air. A little grapey and New World in character despite the more modest alcohol. Actually not unlike a Santa Lucia Highlands fruit profile, which isn't my favorite but I enjoyed the Girardin more. Modest minerality, but good value overall and easy to enjoy.

  • Opened and allowed wine to breathe about 30 minutes in the glass. With a good ruby color, the nose has a very strong mushroom and forest floor base with a hint of green pepper. On the palate there is a cherry compote with a background of allspice and white pepper. Pretty lively acidity. A brief finish. Paired with a pan-fried parmesan crusted steelhead. Drink up by 2015.

  • Deep and intense color, not really what I expected from PN.
The nose was fine but not that nuanced.
This wine really shines thanks to the feeling of power combined with freshness. The acidity was incredible lively, almost sparkling...?! Outstanding!

  • Popped and poured. Seemed to have a bit of mint aroma. Taste was red cherry and a bit of grenness, but then it just seemed to completely die and have very little flavor at all after the first glass or so. Got this at a decent price under $20, but still wouldn't go back for more.

  • Asphalt and licorice, red fruits. Brings back memories, Proust-like, from that courtyard in Perrecy-la-Forge, Burgundy in 1995. The oak is well integrated, maybe too much fudge, but very good. Easy drinking wine, slightly overpriced. Oriental spices (cinnamon, nutmeg...) emerge after some decanting, match the fruit well.

  • Expensive table wine, easy to drink, but overpriced. Red color, muted grape nose, like water with a touch of fruit, leather and garbage odor finish

  • A lot of force as usual from this producer. Like the style, but the wood was a bit too evident.

  • Bought two cases for daily drinking a couple of years ago, hadn't yet cracked any, but just joined CT and was concerned when I saw reviews.
Aerated the first glass - a bit of an earthy odour to start which dissipated quickly, replaced by classic, though not intense, burgundy nose. Taste - bright fruit up front, still sweet on the palate as noted by others, good acidity. After an hour the brightness had faded a but, but was still slightly sweet and pleasant, though without much length. Apparently Santenay is usually an early maturing wine and this seems ready to drink, probably not much to be gained by cellaring at this point as tannins not evident.
Very pleasant light wine for a lunch or aperitif before dinner.

  • I bought this last week and it may been badly stored, as some wine had escaped through the cork. Reasonably dark colour with some purple still evident. Very pleasant on the nose - meaty with earth, spice and dark fruit and more forest floor than I would have expected, possibly due to storage issue? Tannins evident, but ripe and soft. Quite mineral, not too much fruit, and with a touch of menthol. Very well-balanced with no hotness (something I often notice in Pinot Noirs). I struggle to find enjoyable Burgundy at a price I can afford, but this was one.

  • Well, this is not so bad after all but is it Bourgogne? It has barnyard, dark fruits and a lot of oak. I would not guess Bourgogne if tasted blind. The barnyard does not go away, and make this wine feel slightly unclean. One bottle was corked btw.

  • This wine is drinking perfectly right now. The last one that faded was due to bottle variation, I think!

  • A frisky pup. Lots of acidity, lightly sprizted, big fruit, ending on a bitter note. The parts are all there, and it should be better down the road.
Two days later, the spritz and bitterness are gone, the acidity is in balance and the wine is delicious.

  • Great QPR. Dark, clear ruby/garnet color. A powerful boquet of sweet pinot fruit. A big, but balanced Burg with deep dark fruit and nice contrasting acidity and freshness. Satisfying sap.

  • Richly fruited, but shrill and spritzy.

  • Purchased after a strong recommendation from an eBob member. Popped and poured. Dark in color with a musky nose. Very sweet on the palate as noted by other tasters with a spicy finish. Creamy with a good mouthfeel. Once again 2005 Burgundy brings it big-time. Recommended due to the QPR.

  • We enjoyed this wine, but it faded as the evening wore on-could be due to bottle variation, we'll see when we drink the next one.

  • Popped and poured into decanter.

    Initial notes:

    Color: Garnet
Aromas: Cherries and earthy smells of dried leaves, hints of dried mushrooms, some mint and oak.
Taste: Sour cherry up front. Rhubarb in the middle that are met with some light tannins on the finish.

    After 30-45 minutes:

Aromas: The earthy smells have given way to a floral, herbal scent, spice and oak.
Flavors: The sourness has faded considerably. No longer tastes like rhubarb, but now tasting like unripe cherries.
Finish lasts 30 seconds with some lingering tannins that hang around a bit longer.

This continues to improve over time. I would give this 90-120 minutes in a decanter. After 90 minutes, I'm getting chocolate notes on the palate.

This should sit for at least a couple more years before tasting again. This has potential to be a very, very nice wine.
