Dark ruby with somewhat muted but regal aromas of lavender, anise, and red fruits. Flavor profile is sweet red and black berries and a touch of pine augmented by flavors of the aforementioned aromas. A modest finish without much persistence; a pleasant wine to drink currently but may not evolve much further.

Nose is dark and a little brooding but also has good wood spice and a faint bit of Gevry earth coming through. Decanted for two hours based on the reviews here and suspect that helped a bit, but overall was youthful and dark. Smells a little more ripe and lush than it really is. Palate is short on power and structure actually. Pleasant drinking but nothing too detailed or special. 92-

Decanted for three hours. Beautiful wine. Cool dark nose with Asian spices and stony mineral. Power without weight. Balanced with good acidity and full tannins. Tonight the tannins show nice. Will improve with more age. I purchased three bottles on release I will drink another in 2030.

Saturday Lunch with Friends and Wine (Prairie Grass - Northbrook IL): Open, decanted an hour before serving. Black fruit aromas and flavors with lots of roasted game. Savory spice throughout. Big and brawny with lots of tannin. VG concentration. Somewhat shut down in middle, this needs plenty of cellar time to strut its stuff. 91-92 points for pleasure today, 93-94 point potential.

This is about potential as it's not ready to drink yet. Big rich wine with drying tannins. I'll wait a couple of more years then give it a long decant.

Dark ruby. Open knit nose of red fruit, sous bois, and black pepper. Dense, chewy flavors of strawberry, cherry, and black pepper, supported by crisp acidity but big, slightly drying tannins. Such an expressive nose for such a tight, tannic palate. This needs time, but thankfully has the fruit to go for the longhaul. Drink starting 2025.

The Verticals Tasting at La Paulée 2016 (The Fairmont, San Francisco): Light ruby. Both herbs and confected red fruit on the nose. Medium weight but dense, backward, sweaty, and tannic. One of the most powerful wines tasted today. As opposed to the rigid 2005 Grivot Clos Vougeot, I sense that this has more than enough fruit and flesh to go the distance, but I think it will need a minimum of 15 more years of aging. Fantastic potential.

Ruby red. Beautiful nose of red cherry, sous bois, and subtle black pepper. Dense red fruits in the mouth, with strawberry and cherry flavors. Great acidity frames a long finish with lingering notes of bitter red fruit. The nose is expressive and gorgeous now, but the mouth remains tight, with substantial tannin and quite a bit of baby weight. Drink starting 2020.

Tasted on multiple occasions. Big, primary and tight red fruit and mineral undertones. A very long and complex finish with evident tannins. This softened some with air, but not much. Enjoyable now, but it is best to wait.

Sour cherry and sweaty socks on the nose, with dried leaves and herbs. There's also a slight pepperiness at the end. The palate was much the same as the nose, but the flavors were much better integrated. Still too young, but drinking well right now.

Tasted blind. Medium deep ruby, bright and beautiful. Nose: clean berry aromas, (strawberries, raspberries), a little mushrooms, rather harmonious, then getting more perfumed and showing some chocolate and caramel notes, still not too obtrusive. Medium+ body, fresh accidity, fruity on the palate with red berries, coffee, cinnamon, slight lingonberrish bitterness, gaining in complexity with air. Surprisingly balanced already, but surely far too young to appreciate.

Nose and primary flavors: Raspberry, earth and button mushrooms, animal fur, soft black licorice candy, a beguiling spiciness (cinnamon?), with a note of toast, and in the background, a touch of dairy.
Palate: Rich, sappy (literally lip smacking and almost sticky) but still juicy, with pronounced mineral/gravel notes running through the finish which really spreads out and features cherry-tinged fruit.
Complex and completely satisfying. Showing remarkably well right now, although it tightened up after an hour or so with the acids/minerals becoming more dominant. You should resist where I could not. I will replace this bottle asap.

Quite intense jammy strawberry on the nose. Still relatively closed as it’s a big year. Would likely get better but I do like the winemaking style

PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Root” day): Medium bright ruby to the eyes. Brilliant colour.
Aromatic with lots of primary darker chunky berry fruits, fur-like animale and dark floral notes.
Good balance. Needs a little more time to open.
93-94 points to me.
1 hour since uncorking: Significant improvement on nose and palate with more sous bois and animale notes, upgrading to 94 points.

La Paulée de San Francisco - The Verticals (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note. Black, burly and incredibly concentrated and meaty. Not very accessible today, but the long and powerful finish makes me confident this will be very enjoyable, probably after 2025.

Tasting of Chambertin and Clos-de-Bèze (Amarone (Rotterdam, The Netherlands)): Great nose, class, civilization. And how it evolved in the glass! It started rustic, generous, round, but it became a little more reserved (it closed?), gained class. Beautiful wine, fine domaine. 19/20
