My last bottle of this. Deep gold colour, incredible nose of wax apples, quince, varnish. Long on the palate, but dont look for sweet fruit, as that is not the style of this wine. Beautiful with oysters.
Great whites don't ever get much better than this! I decanted this wine for an hour before serving. It's come out the other end of the "no man's land" that these wines experience from about 7 to 14 years of age. And how brilliant. A nose of quince, waxy fruits, apricots. Amazing minerality and complexity and depth on the palate. The wine seems to go on and on and on after the sip. I'm glad I have some more. Giving great pleasure now; will become even more complex with time.
Deep gold color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 2 hours. Wow, what an incredible wine. This was constantly changing and showing different shades. Splendid nose with honey, citrus, honeysuckle, tangerine, cotton candy, candied apples, creme brule, nuts. The palate is almost creamy, with a lush rich texture, not heavy, but intense and elegant. A variety of fruits including apple, tangerine, citrus, pear and even at times red berries all enhanced by quince, honey, spices, and nuts. Extremely complex with a long finish. Quite the treat.
Oh Oh Oh. The Belle of the Ball. I thought the 1993 was the best aged Ermitage white I had tasted until I opened this at a BBQ. On a rooftop in HKG, out of cups… but not even that could suppress this rich, beautifully balanced wine. You could almost say creamy, not in texture but in depth. It is hard to pinpoint flavours because there are so many. More the flavours you'd expect in alsace than Burgundy - Apple, Pear, Peach... but burnt Orange and lemon runs through it as well. This wine is Marilyn Monroe in the Seven Year Itch... Not a model on a catwalk.
Plenty of honey sweetness and melon minerality, nicely countered by a restrained note of quinine. Competing flavours and sensations add complexity, a big and powerful white, with a fine and long finish. Drinking beautifully, and one that might even convince those who don't get Northern Rhone whites. dg-
From magnum bottle : Along with 3 mgn 2007 Da Capo, 2007 Hermitage : J.L.Chave and 2007 CdP : Saint Cosme. White is WOTN !!!
When Parker rated 99/100 to a wine like this, I totally 100% agree with him.
If you like white wine : This is an amazing wine you must try before you die !!!
It stands side by side with all reds and no need to drink cold.
How lucky I am, I have good enough experience to feel the wonderful things in this wine.
Golden in color.
It begins with a good scent of Haut-Brion Blanc, slowly changes to be Laville Haut-Brion...across the terroir to be Batard-Montrachet...becomes Criots Batard Montrachet...Bienvenue Batard Montrachet...I think it would be great if it ends up with Chevalier Montrachet but it better than that !!!
after 4 hours, a very clean mineral scent like a very fragrant mineral water, chalk, wet stone, tropical fruits, flowery, very elegant, very dramatic and very beautiful indeed. This is better than some bottle of Le Montrachet I've ever had.
..........................these is only the smell of the wine.................................
White Rhone always has a spicy finished, good layer of tannin, good acidity, very well-balanced, lovely dense in texture. Very great in structure !!!
The aftertaste is awesome !!! Deep impact, lovely tight, linger and long long finished. Killing me softly with its mild blowin' aftertaste.
Drink now - 2030.........................98-99/100..............................
Dark gold. Hints of oxodization at first. Later it opens up and reveals a nice Rhone nose. I found it a bit dumb at first. I liked it after a half hour in the glass. Nice soft creamy flavour a bit to acid in the finish. Tough place to be after the Montrachet.
Wow, this is a really amazing white wine. Incredibly big, but beautifully balanced, this is another bottle of the best dry white wine I have ever had the pleasure to drink. Better even than any of the few Montrachets I've consumed. Big fruit, tremendous mid-palate, and extraordinary finish. Paired especially well with lobster, but would pair well with any seafood, possibly even a hamburger for that matter. I wish I had much, much more of this!
Great nose on this wine -apple sauce infused with honey. Almost smells like a light sauturnes. The flavor on the other hand was drastically lacking - sort of like a watered down flat soda. Will not buy again
J-P's Birthday (Vancouver): If you are a fan of Hermitage blanc, ignore my score. I try to find the elixir so many people rave about, but I can't seem to "get" these wines. First of all, when they have any age on them at all (around 10 years) I find them to taste overly oxidized. This one did also. Plus, this wine was showing quite a bit of alcohol and did not taste completely balanced. There was some quality fruit under all that, but...
Tasting. Lush and ripe fruit on nose with lots of stone fruit and some roasted nuts as well as intense woodsy spice. Long and powerful fruit on palate, this hasn't shut down yet and is at a glorious, fresh stage at present.
