Talcum powder, chalkboard dust and dried mint glide atop luscious tropical notes. More glycerol here that is tempered by bracing acidity. Texturally, the 2005 King Estate Domain Pinot Gris is totally different from its siblings, with exuberant, juicy pineapple, bruised pear, and golden delicious apple at the core and a dollop of spice on the finish. This is a Lithe and sensual wine, with aromas of peach and honeysuckle followed by layered flavors of tropical fruit, honey, and toasted almonds. It has a lush, creamy texture (thanks to 8 months of sur lie aging) and firm acidity that keeps the varietal characteristics focused and pure. A well-crafted Pinot Gris that shows appreciably more finesse and elegance than many of the ones you'll taste from Italy or elsewhere.
