The '99 Gavarini showed beautifully and is drinking at peak. The nose was very perfumed with tobacco, dark red fruit, tar, leather, and a hint of dark chocolate. Initially, the aromatics were very clean with pure, sweet red fruit, but with air some leathery, savory, and slightly rustic notes came out. The palate was very smooth and sweet with fully integrated tannins, drinking beautifully right now. I found dark red fruit, licorice, tobacco, and sweet balsamic and sweet spice notes on the finish. Acidity was medium+ and the wine came across as quite fresh.
Especially with air, it's clear the '99 Gavarini is not at the (world-class) level of recent vintages. But it's a very enjoyable bottle, as was the '99 Casa Mate a few months ago.

In a pretty good place now. Forest floor potpourri and hint of raisins, blood orange on the nose. Slightly port like on the palate, but saline (beginnings of soy), a little sweet, long clingy finish. A bit of heat.

This is one of the more advanced bottles in this vertical. Very mature notes of autumn leaves, dried fruit, dried rose petals, some tobacco leaf too. It‘s medium bodied, with medium+ acidity and medium- tannin that has melted away mostly. Good length. A very mature Chiniera, but still lovely to drink.

This also showed a touch of oxidation after opening it, got a little better with some more air though. Notes of dried crushed flowers, red berries, some mint, also some menthol notes and herbal/chinato-ish notes. Medium+ bodied, with medium-high acidity and still medium tannin. Good length. I wasn‘t sure if the bottle was perfect, but very interesting to drink.

Fantastic bottle of wine. Slow-O for 8 hours before drinking. Showed classic Chiniera notes of perfumed candied red fruit, clove, and a touch of wild fennel blossom. Almost weightless palate with incredible balance and clarity. Drinking really great right now.

Great bottle. Color was a bit darker than the "average" Barolo. Nose was somewhat muted with only a bit of fruit and some damp earth. Taste was fantastic: Clear, crisp and bright red fruit, extraordinary. Tannins were present but on the retreat, very nice & supporting acidity. Medium-lenght aftertase, very fruity. Way to go.

dark red with garnet hue - lots of sediment. Decanted and poured this showed a very volatile (worrisome) fragrance. That disappeared to reveal very ripe fruit. All of the olfactory notes found in an aged vintage port but no raisin or over ripeness. Also some savoury odour. Very rich in the mouth, the abundant flesh and ripe dark fruit hides the tannin. Long and beautiful.

Garnet with some bricking on the rim. On the nose some funky dank odors that blew off quickly. Then dark red fruits, spearmint, a touch of vanilla folding into chocolate. Fabulous line of acid on the palate paired with deep rich fruit. Lots of typical tar and then mint again plus licorice and those intense red fruits. Attractive, finely nubbed texture on palate. Very approachable now with just a short decant. Still feels quite young though and just at the beginning of its drinking window.

On it's way down, I fear - burnt, almost pruny notes seem to dominate, and while the wine and the tannins are still correct, it is certainly a barolo, I do find lack of balance here. i think this was build for earlier consumption.

Excellent, although we prefer the Ginestra, we really enjoyed the Gavarini. Although seemingly slightly less in intensity, it's still a fine Barolo, needs time but again with decanting it drinks well. The red fruits, mainly cheery are very distinctive with some leathery-tobacco flavors as well.

Drank with Laflammes and Gartlands. This was actually the Vendemmia and was delicious, especially after being open an hour or so.
