Disgorged in July 2021. Pale straw golden colour. Lime, green apple, nuts, almond, some marzipan, toast, brioche, and salty minerality, with great, fresh acidity, and very good length. Pleasant light Aspirin-like bitterness on the finish. Light- to medium-bodied and well-balanced. Good, but still tight, only unfolding slowly. I would hold.

Tasted blind. Straw color. Apples, pears, lime and brioche on the nose. Mostly cantaloupe and pear with bready notes on the end of the palate. Acidity is medium-plus. Overall, tasting blind, it tasted like a vintage champagne. Very good.

At La Table de Pavie, St. Emilion. By the glass. Though a bit bready on entry, this food-friendly crowd pleaser is rescued by a nicely placed bead of acidity that saves it from becoming too doughy. White melon rind, lemon, fresh sourdough, and white rock notes put this square in the middle of a sea of Champagne that are “more than fine.” You know what to expect here when swimming in this pond.
Having the 2012 Egly after this was just…… unfair.

From 75cl, disgorged October 2019. Muted aromatics, some lemon. Tart, slender entry with lovely tiny-bubble texture and sharp-fresh green apple; thin, attenuated mid-palate so strongly dominated by citric acidity it's hard to tell if anything else is going on. Bone dry despite the 8g dosage declared: that it doesn't cover more of the acidity is remarkable—should guarantee a long life. Hugh Johnston's 2023 pocket guide singles this wine out for lavish praise: "a magical wonder of perfect maturity, elegant acidity: best year for PN since 1952?" Well, this bottle wasn't anywhere near maturity this evening, and if I had further bottles in my cellar I would wait 5 years+ before opening another. 88–89P(+?)

Danish Top 20 champagne blind tasting vintage 2012 (24 btls) (Nimb): Horisontal half blind tasting of 24 top champagnes from vintage 2012. Conclusion: It is a great vintage. My topratings were to some extent unexpected. My winner was Diebolt-Vallois Fleur de Passion which I rated 96. In a shared second place with 94+ were Legras Saint Vincent (unexpected but I don't forget that 1996 might be the best champagne I have ever tasted so far. Try to get a btl. if you can. It is difficult but worth it - still in a perfect drinking window), Veuve Clicquot vintage(!), Moet & Chandon Grand vintage(!) and Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque.
This wine: I am surprised. Outstanding wine. I rated it 94+. Notes of lemon, peach, toast, coffee, bread dough. no apple. Reductive style. I loved especially the nose.

NobleRottersSydney - Malbec (Argentina) (Fix, St James, Sydney): {cork, 12%} [DavidH] Fairly inexpressive nose initially, only lightly developed. Faint yeasty and melon-like aromas. The palate seems quite young still, seemingly all structure and potential still. Less yeasty than the nose, with tight white fruit flavours accompanied by fine, strongly creamy bubbles. Medium weight, even palate, medium length finish. Still very young for a decade; needs a bit more time to evolve (cellar, or perhaps even in the glass). Should be excellent with time.

Displaying the usual Veuve "orange" and bitter herbs on the palate. This time around the pinot noir fruit was showing particularly strong, with little red berries, like wild strawberry and also concord grape. Always a pleaser.

Ok. We gave this time, but maybe in a stubborn phase? Going to have to say, this is like pizza - bad (disappointing) pizza is still pizza... and that goes for this - woefully underwhelming, but it is still Champagne!
Surprisingly pale appearance, good fine bubbles... Nose pretty mute. Felt super fresh, lithe and mineral (chablis-like) - piercingly so. Where is/was the fruit? How about the development?
Palate is taut, pretty intense and came over very dry with a bit of a chew: Intense mineral feel, all very clean and good precision. Again seriously lacking fruit (and texture), although there was a sense of appreciable bitterness - citrus/stone fruit oils sort of thing...
We took our time with it, but it didn't really go anywhere.
I left myself a small glass for this morning: Touch of toast or caramel on the nose, a greater sense of richness though still 'delicate'. That bitter/oiliness is here, very intense and stony mineral quality - quite limey/sappy too... decent length.
Not a patch on the (much better value) 2013 Roederer we had last weekend.
Trademark Veuve nose of orange flowers and bitter orange on the palate (quite amazing how they can maintain this feature across vintages, but also bottlings, see la Gran Dame or the entry level). Softer and riper fruit compared to the 2008. Lively acidity, however much less than the punch and structure of 2008. In the nose and aftertaste also very evident notes of dried bitter herbs, like absynth, gentian and other herbs used in vermouth. The 8 g/l parts of sugar are very well hidden by the structure/aromatics of the wine. However, as the wine warms up a bit it becomes very noticeable.
A pleasant, balanced and already very drinkable champagne, which nonetheless lacks a bit of complexity and bite at this price point. As other notes suggest, this wine might need some additional time in the bottle to express fully its potential, however I feel that it cannot match the 2008 vintage version. The 2008 vintage is superior in all dimensions, especially in its way more pronounced minerality and evolving very interestingly. Given the almost identical price I would focus on the 2008 vintage.

It's back on offer, so I'm trying it again. Pale. Gorgeous aroma, rich and quite complex, with peach, apple, and a bready-pastry character. Great intensity on the palate, but it's tightly controlled. Layers of orchard fruit, clean acidity, and a lightness on the finish that keeps things elegant. One of the better young vintage champagnes I've had in a while, especially given the price. Well worth trying. [Cork + cage; 12% abv; Sainsbury's, on offer at £40].
Solid and a great upscale alternative to the normal NVs and definitely adds a star value to the celebration and at like 70£ wont brake the bank. On the rich and creamy side of course. 90-91
One of the very few big house vintages available in supermarkets here, i've heard good things about the 2012, so seeing it on offer it seemed a good time to try, even though this is far younger than I prefer to drink champagne. Pale lemon colour. Clean, primary aroma with delicious cooked apple and butter. Astonishing concentration on the palate, this really is a vintage quality wine. Strong sour apple taste, good balance of ripeness, a whisper of plum skin just short of bitterness. I can see why people have been speaking so highly of this - it's excellent. With air, a mature pastry note develops, then a distinctive and pleasant waft of butter mint and crème fraîche(!). Good value at present, and surely has the guts to continue improving for 20 years or more, definitely recommended. [Cork + cage; 12% abv; Sainsbury's, on offer @ £44].
Bright yellow with a firm mousse (indeed this one wanted to be drunk so much the cork nearly took me out). Fresh citrus dominates on the nose. Very clean and youthful, which carries through on the palate. Nice poise, with refreshing acidity. I suspect this could improve quite a bit in the mid-term.

(Disgorged in November 2018) Youthful nose showing tropical citrus notes, white peach at first and with extra time in the glass also showing some coffee notes as well. Very acidic palate with yellow apples and peach and some bitterness on the nice and lengthy finish. Still very youthful and need more post disgorgement years to open up more. (Best 2022-2032)

Complex nose with aromas of yellow fruit, apricot, apple, nuts and popcorn. Even so, no aroma really sticks out in front of the others.
Rich mousse and medium+ intense flavours of ripe red apples. High acidity, medium body but with a richness in fruit concentration and extract. This makes wine rather accessible even now. Medium+ finish.

Youthful nose showing tropical citrus notes, white peach at first and with extra time in the glass also showing some coffee notes as well. Very acidic palate with yellow apples and peach and some bitterness on the nice and lengthy finish. Still very youthful and need more post disgorgement years to open up more.

Pale lemon, almost gold, colour.
