  • This was an outstanding bottle. Beautiful amber color. A big, ripe and rich wine. Viscous. Like drinking liquefied apricots. It carried the 15% abv well. Went great with Red Pork Posole. The sweetness of the wine cut the heat of the Posole.

  • Stored in a climate-controlled cellar since purchase upon release. This was in a good place. It wasn't corked, but there was a "woody" element on the nose that never completely dissipated. Beyond that, the bouquet exhibited a lovely ensemble of honeyed, tropical fruits (orange, apricot, and peach), followed by a dense (almost viscous), oily textured mouthfeel loaded with rich and ripe expressions of the same fruit. It was fairly dry, but the richness to the fruit coupled with the 15% alcohol (which was never too prominent) lent a certain sweetness on the palate (though not in terms of residual sugar) which contributed to the impressive length on the finish. As other tasters have noted, it is relatively low on acidity, but that did not detract too much from the experience. It's drinking well! I'd say there's no immediate hurry, but I'm not sure how much better it'll get...

  • Typisk pinot gris på smak. Likevel frisk. Lett sødme. 15,5% godt integrert.

  • Golden yellow. Orange marmalade, ripe golden delicious apples. Ginger and baking spices on the finish. Sweet, but lacking much balancing acidity. This was great with dessert tonight, but I'd drink these sooner than rather than later.

  • I bought these a long time ago, but failed to enter them in CellarTracker. This first bottle may have been a bit off. It was pretty dark amber and had a bitter finish. Prior to the finish, this had nice tropical fruit, with some sweetness balanced by the acids. I hope my second bottle is better.

  • This is in a great spot right now. Seems a little high in alcohol and certainly a sweet one, but can work with the right food as not too heavy. Will hold for a while but no problem enjoying now. A-

  • Bottle seemed to be in just the right spot. Was the star of a dinner at the Waterside Inn out in Bray. Paired very nicely with a Ginger and Lobster dish and then equally well with the dessert course. No detailed notes, but I remember some tropical fruits, a great unctuous-ness to the wine. This amazing balance between the older, more mature version with still some youthful lightness popping through. Great acidity. Wine was just fantastic.

  • Rich and honeyed with some grapefruit bitterness. Would overpower most food, but pretty good pairing with cheese. Should last a long time.

  • Classic nose of lemon brioche, orange marmalade and blood orange with a hint of minerality. Given the complexity of the nose, the palate is somewhat surprisingly Uni-directional. Macerated pear, blood orange and muted citrus. There's A vibrancy to the palate that belies the overall complexity, however the nose overdelivers what the pallet can't provide.

  • Dinner at Sun Wah (Sun Wah BBQ - Chicago, IL): Plush nose of mangos, peaches, and lemon cream. The palate followed suit with a big bouquet of tropical fruits and a creaminess to the wine that is somewhat expected for ZH. Could have used a bit more balance.

  • Dinner at Sun Wah (Chicago, IL): This wine kind of makes me sad. The nose is so promising, with aromas of pineapples and golden apples, as well as a lovely spice bouquet, but then you taste it, and you realize it actually isn't a Mosel Spaetlese. The alcohol comes a bit to the forefront, and a slightly higher pH makes this lose its balance. I so wanted to like this based on the absolutely fabulous nose (which I could sit around and smell for hours), but the palate really kills it for me.

  • Quite dark yellow, but not oxidized. Very evident and concentrated Pinot gris aromas; dried apricots, apricot stone, banana, marzipan etc. Thick, unctuous and extremely rich in the mouth. Almost too much fruit concentration; it is easy to forget this is a wine and not boiled down juice. But impressive it is. Think I save the last bottle for several years.

  • Nose was great, sweet and tropical. Palate didn't cut it for me. Not enough acidity, and out of balance. Maybe an off bottle.

  • At CVAs home in London, thx for being generous with your cellar and a wonderful home cooked Belgian meal.

Last wine of the evening, a wonderful Alsatian wine to pair with a pear apple tart. First experience with this wine - trusting my hosts instincts I knew it would be unique.

Medium gold/amber color. Nose of white-flowers and apple. Ripe fruits, green apple, apricot, tropical fruits, very slight must. Thick, oily mouth-feel. Didnt pick up the heat others did, bottle was open for several hours prior, may have been a factor. Terrific wine - still a baby.

  • A shame this was my only bottle. Somehting not quite right with it. Very deep gold/brown butter colour. Nose was rather vegetal, but not quite oxidised. Palate thick with a fair dollop of sweetness. Some apricot notes. Low acidity meant it needed to be kept cool for fear of being blowsy. In the end I think this was slightly premoxed.

  • Amber-gold color. Indice 3 on the ZH scale (some RS left in the wine). Initial aromas of ZH Rangen. Side by side with the Riesling from the same vintage, the hallmarks of Rangen provide similarities that the varietal characteristics complement. Smoky, peaty, apricot, marmalade, and cherry notes on the nose. Those flavors are present on the palate with a notable sweetness that carries into a long finish. The advertised 15% alcohol is present and this is a "more is more" wine. Ultimately, the heat is a distraction for me, but the flavors are undeniably delicious at this point. Drink or hold.

  • Light gold in color. Concentrated, sweet, but exactly what you expect from this producer and wine. Very nice and already drinking well. A-/A

  • From memory: Very dark yellow/gold. Flowers, elderflower, honey, tropical on the nose. Weighty, heavy, oily, great concentration. Much heavier than expected, so it didn't match the food as expected, but fantastic in its own right.

  • Excellent on the nose, screaming pinot gris. Great minerality. Amazing weight and staining concentration and a tremendous finish. But some not so subtle heat that continues to build and some palate sweetness. This is clearly great material but feels a little overripe and a little forced. Very, very good terroir but I can't help but think it could have been a touch better.

  • Lovely wine. Thick and oily. Lovely fruit with peach and tropical fruit.

  • Thick and unctious. Tasty and well balanced. Very gris-like - slightly tannic/bitter, good white/tropical fruit. Excellent nose. Lingering, slightly sweet, slightly bitter length. Very much to offer. Long term wine.

  • The Magical 2005 Vintage at Domaine Zind Humbrecht (Turckheim, Alsace, France): This wine possesses a beautiful mix of Rangen imprint, varietal characteristics, sweetness and acidity. Should be quite interesting with some cellar time. Like most Rangens I think it needs some cellar time to really show it's best. Like all the 2005 Rangens it somehow feels a little different than it usually does. 50+13+13+8.5+8.5=93
