Fruit forward and we all agreed it really 'explodes' in your mouth. Though less than 20% of the blend, the merlot really comes through. Aging nicely and still plenty left in the tank.

The wine is ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like oak, forest floor, violet and clove. It tastes like red currant, blueberry, dust, forest floor, oak, espresso, clove and walnut. Medium body and complexity. Chewy but medium tannins with decanting. Medium acidity. The wine finishes short, and is probably past peak. Drink now.

See previous tasting note. Best bottle of this wine to date. Just a few left from my original case. This bottle tasted more vibrant than the past two and after a quick pour through a Vinturi into a decanter for a short 20-30 minute decant was magnificent. Highly recommended.

Super deep purple upon opening. Poured through Vinturi into decanter. Exceptional wine. Great nose that immediately screams Bordeaux varietal. A consistently great blend by St Supery. On the palate, I tasted notes of cherry, blackberry, and tobacco/cigar box. Silky smooth tannins with some light toasted oak and medium finish. This is a Cabernet and Merlot dominated Bordeaux which I always enjoy. Great QPR since I picked these up on auction for $25 a bottle. Still have four more in the cellar. I think you have a year or two more on these but would begin drinking them if you have multiple bottles. Highly recommended.

Great wine. Definitely the perfect time to open this. Paired fantastic with a lamb and root vegetable stew on a cold day. Flavors of tobacco, smoke, black cherry and blackberry dominated on both the nose and palate. Overall great wine.

As mentioned earlier still has a lot of life. Nice blend, very aromatic but not overwhelming, good color and soft tannins.
Had with the usual Thanksgiving Harvest Feast with the family. Still 4 more bottles left which I'll be trying in another 6- 12 months to see if they still hold up.

Still has a lot of life, complexity. Berrie with some dust. Used as a warm up for some heavier cabs. Enjoyed it with some root veggies and lamb. The earthiness of the veggies really brought something out in the wine.
I have a few more bottles left which I plan on serving with Thanksgiving dinner.

Tasted at Vintages Napa Valley Rocks seminar. Loved this. The nose has floral notes, cassis, dark fruit and a bit of licorice. It's a medium body wine that's stately and savoury: dark fruit, leather, a little licorice, and round mouth-coating tannins. One of the top bottles of the evening.

Mix of red and dark berries, plums, tobacco and dust - full bodied but 10 years on it's very soft and all the components have integrated nicely.
Put a glass cap in and kept the final third in the fridge overnight and it was still drinking well on day two, if just a bit off of the first night. I think it's got some legs still so no need to rush but I also don't think it's going to continue developing any further. I say drink it up.

Wow, this wine is right-on the money! Tannins, acidity, alcohol all balanced and integrated into a beautiful drinking meritage blend. Still enough black fruit to say it's fruit-forward. Nice silky mouth-feel. Wonderful spice, tending towards a rich cinnamon. Oaky vanilla coming through. Enjoyed this one tremendously. This wine will not benefit from more time in the cellar. Drink now.

Orange tinge to the dark raspberry red color. Leather and earth mix with the familiar raisin and prune notes that often come with older wines (although only 8 years). A sleek polished mid-palate and a smooth and balanced finish of rounded tannins, tangy expressions, and some decent fruit and acidity. This wine has it all, a great expression, definitely rounded by the blend relative to pure Napa Cab offerings. Over all a great bottle if purchased smartly.

Had this with aged NY Strip steak - what an incredible complement! This wine is very full-bodied with perfect tannins, and the right balance of fruit and spiciness that leaves you wanting to keep both more steak and more wine coming - hmmmm...not such a bad thought! Enjoy this one!

accompanied braised beef shortribs at Open That Bottle Night (but these notes are based on Day 2 tasting) - color: medium purple; nose: blackberries and oak; taste: medium mouth feel, bright blackberry taste, lavish tasty finish; overall: very nice wine (as it should be, given its $60 price tag at the winery) -- a treat that's ready now

Had one heck of a time fighting the cork out of this 3.0L with an Ah-so. Decanted about 1/2 of the bottle since I did not have that big of a decanter. The nose was full of aromas of oak, black cherry, leather. It was intoxicating. The palate was rich, elegant, balanced, like liquid velvet. Smooth delicious finish. One of the best bottles I have had. Everyone at the party loved this one. 50+5+14+16+7=92

Crimson-black; black currants, black cherries, dark chocolate, tar, mint; ripe berry, plummy, medium-full body, good structure, firm tannins, lingering finish. Decanted 3 hrs. Intense, complex nose with full berry flavour and firm tannins. Became softer and plummier over dinner.

From 375. Vinturied. Medium garnet color. Dried cherries, tobacco, spice box on the nose with a bit of stemminess that becomes less evident with air. Medium bodied palate with tart, earthy cherry flavors and a hint of coffee. Dusty tannins and a medium length, slightly bitter finish. Ready to drink in this format. Preferred the 2002 vintage.

Once decanted the nose came alive with sweet cheeries.... the taste well great... finish was appropriately long for the vintage although I think the experts are right with the fact that 03 was such a hot temp and the grapes matured in a unusual pattern leaving a product that does not live up to NAPA claim to fame...

Straight out of the bottle, the body on this wine has a vibrant purple core trailing to a brickish red. On the nose, a captivating blend of crushed violets, red currants and raspberry concentrate. Additionally, notes of plum and prune presented as well with a touch of heat. In the mouth, this wine was soft and elegant on the palate. It was contemplative, with mild dried berry fruit showing on the front and moves gracefully across the mid palate. It finished dry and somewhat quick. For the Élu blend being primary Cabernet Sauvignon, the tannins were lighter and less textured than expected. As far as faults, it showed a touch raisiny which might be attributed its warm serving temperature. If I could turn back time, I would have aspired to review it at 16 degrees Celsius and given it some time in a decanter to mellow it out.

Very different then my last tasting notes. This bottle was from a different group I bought from the winery so maybe it wasn't treated the same in shipment. Anyway, opened and decanted for about 45min. Color was its normal dark, with no fall off. Nose was much more subtle, some dark fruit. On the pallet this was again more reserved then my last, it was still quite good but it all the flavors were more muted then before. Didn't get that buttery quality at all this time. My wife didn't even believe it was the same wine she had raved about over Christmas.

The nose is somewhat muted on this. sweet cherries and sour cherries. goes in and out of being elegant. More tannins than expected. Reminds me of a Justin Isoceles but with a more closed nose and a little more elegant. Decanted for a couple of hours and still closed down. A little tart. can tell there is Nice structure behind it.
After 3 hours decant time: Gets noticeably sweeter and a little denser. Almost like a young densely structured Burgundy. Seems like it's still young and only showing a glimpse. This bottle is Disjointed. Wouldn't reorder based on this bottle but I can see this improving down the road. Might be some bottle shock as it was part of a cross country shipment recently.90Pts

Loads of crushed berries, but not as much of anything else as I remember. Nice structure, smooth tannins. Drink now to 2010. Can't see this one lasting much longer as it doesn't have nearly the tannic structure of the 2002. I need to pick up another bottle and try again.

This was very good. Opened and decanted for about 45 minutes. Had with prime rib after we had had champagne with appetizer course. Color was rich and dark, no fall off at the edge. Nose of dark fruit, some black cherry. On the pallet this was very rich and smooth. My wife referred to it as buttery, I didn't taste that but could see that from the texture. Everyone felt this was wonderful except one that thought there was too much licorice in it, again, no one else seemed to sense this but this is the joy of wine isn't it! Finish was moderately long and very smooth. Like French food every drink left you wanting a little more. Two bottles lasted about 35 minutes for 6 of us.
