Lunch at Le Bon Georges (Le Bon Georges, Paris): This wine had the toughest task, it arrived at the end of a proper line up, long summery lunch in 30C Paris. And it it brought the sunshine. Tired palates were revived, wine discussion rekindled around it. Just this in our mind is enough to show what a great wine this was and send it to 95. The fact that it was served blind just add to the beauty. Sweet mandarin, mandarin marmalade at times, floral, waxy at times on the palate , sweet for sure but effortless too and with a lightness to the ripe fruit, tea leaves maybe too. Luscious and lovely to cross paths with it at this young age akin to a young sauternes experience. Just beautiful 94-96

Lovely nose, very pure and sweet mandarin on the nose, honeyed, quite precise; full and rich, a nice freshness of acidity keeps things vibrant. Quite a note of botrytis on the palate.

Complex nose with white fruit, quince, cinnamon, white flowers, hint of cherry, quite prominent apple cyder and sweet spices. Fruity and clean, only subtle botritis touch. This has lots of acidity as typical for a Chenin and the residual sugar is also low enough so that drinking this makes it more like a German Auslese experience than a Sauternes. I like that. A really great wine.

12.5% abv. Deep gold color. May be just a better bottle tonight, or this wine is hitting its stride, but this was contender for one of the best bottles of wine I’ve ever had. Served cool. Super rich and luscious sweet honeyed fruit that is full throttle but held back enough by acidity to reign it in before it goes off the rails. Botrytis notes a little one dimensional today - expect they’ll develop into funky sweet truffle over time. More citrus, Asian fruits vs tropical - this is serious wine that demands your attention.

Not much to add to notes here but to say honey profile dominated for me, with enough acid left to go several more years. Layered and med plus in mouth, 45 sec finish, deep golden color.

Grand vin

A private tasting (Rotterdam, NL): Tasted blind. Feels quite weak, nice depth though, hint of apple, juicy and supple, slightly hard bitters, good length.

Fine, finesse with candied mandarin oranges and slightly bitter beeswax. It’s a lighter style with no noticeable oak. Great

Liquid cotton candy. Opening nose of bananas. Apricots, honey with honeycomb wax. Lychee nuts.

Very nice balance and drinking well. Lanolin, almond paste, lemon curd. Can hold or drink now.

Score reflects a tasting of 15 wine dorks :)
Drink or save. Not overly sweet, agree with marzipan, golden color.

2005 was a great year for sweet wine in Loire. Marzipan, confection sugar, quince, concentration of flavor and long persistence on the finish.
