Damn. This was wonderful. Better even than his 1er Cru Exchanges from the same vintage. Drinking beautifully. Soft and subtle. Elegant and in a perfect slot. From Gim.

I've had good luck with 2005s this year, even with a 1er Cru Vosne-Petits Monts from Potel. But this one is still fairly shut down, although showing very good potential. Intense red and dark fruits, but also a fair amount of tannin. Medium-full body and quite a bit of power for Chambolle. Cellared since original release.

This is very very young but "wow" does this open up over the course of the evening! Lots of intense black raspberry, cherry flavors mixed with rose bush, various briary scents, licorice, iron and violet come about with some fresh beets and meat juices. There almost a liqueur/jellied quality to the fruit that at first, is maybe a tad concerning but then when you imagine the longevity here and when the wine comes around, "Wow" Lots of style today, even. Firm tannins, typical of '05. Lots of potential going forward. Do not revisit for another 8+ years as there is no rush here. Muscular tannic structure that is certainly odd for Chambolle, but we will see!

Faded in colour and taste not so much in harmony. Nose is good, but taste is very sour cherry and still high notes of acidity. On day 2 faded away and sour and a lot of sediments.

Very slight bricking at the edges. Secondary aromatics combined with fading, yet still enjoyable fruit.Very nice at 12 years- balance with structure and fruit even now. Unfortunately previous bottle was corked so this was the last of 4. Would like to have a couple more to taste over the next 6 years. This is a wonderful example of what makes 2005 Burgundy so special...

Becomming more approachable since last try. Tannin and high accid is still dominant as well a dry finnish comming from the wood I believe. Once melted away (when - it is a village wine), I'm sure the fruit is fine already now revealing good CM characters and 2005's ultrafine silky and smokey taste. Not especially long aftertaste. Better at opening than later where it closed up further.

Medium clear garnet. Decanted half an hour. Lovely dark cherry aroma and some earth on the nose. Tastes of concentrated ripe dark cherries, still a bit tannic, with a subtle spicy and dry finish. Has a dark fruit depth that is more on the somber side.

For the first twenty or thirty minutes this is an extremely pretty wine -- and what does one ask from village Chambolle other than it be extremely pretty? -- with pure dark fruits and some crystallinity, plus a light but smooth body that seems to float on the tongue. With further exposure to air, the wine begins to close up, although it is still pleasurable to drink. For top experiences, hold this wine for another five or more years, but it clearly is a top performer for village Chambolle.

Nice wine. Good purity, with sweet cherry and black cherry. I like the finish that is gentle, but holds some light structure to help frame the fruit. For me, this is ready now.

Opened at Rue Franklin in Buffalo. Quite stern, with cool, earthy tones. Not as much bright cherry as I was hoping for. Clearly in need of additional cellar time. Paired better iwth my wife's veal shank (osso buco style) than my venison bourguinon.

Starting to close down now compared to a bottle consumed 7 months ago. But still has ample black cherry that glides on the silky texture. Picks up asian spice, underbrush and mineral flavors on the finish, which is slightly clipped a the moment. No doubt this will re-emerge. Drink 2011-2020. 89+ pts.

nose- pop&pour. oak, strawberry, raspberry mouth - red fruits, good acidity, mid bodied tasted next to an Oregonian Pinot and showed more muscle can probably stand to sit for a few years

Red Burgundy at The Wine Club (with a brown-bagged cherry): Very ripe nose, with aromas of spicy red berry liqueur, bittersweet chocolate, thyme and other dried herbs. Grapey, red cherries on the palate. Turns more tannic on the finish, but pleasing sweet and savory notes linger with more dried herbs. $41

Sappy and linear to a long finish. Sweet tannins. Touch of brett, but not distracting. Simple and ho-hum. This performs at village level which is disapointing given the vintage. At the fair price it just barely delivers.

Consistent notes, compared with the bottle I tried at a tasting a few days ago. Perhaps a touch more closed. Nice mid-weight, earthy, sappy cherry fruit.

Winestreet Does 2005 Nicholas Potel (Kozlak's, North Oaks, MN): Floral nose. Deeply pitched, sappy red fruit. Medium weight. More complex than the Volnay VV and Nuits (see TNs). Minerals, light spice, and earth. Closed up a bit in the glass. Excellent density and texture. Very impressive.
