Dark red, evenly towards the edges. Smell of dark fruit, blackcurrent and some leather and pepper. Fine tannins but not so much acidity left anymore. Medium body and still a decent drink.

Family dinner, magnum. Maybe the worst Giscours I've ever had. Not a bad wine at all, absolutely not, but just so ordinary and unspectacular. Really tame, structure mostly gone, enjoyable and easy drinking, but I've had dozens of more exciting Bordeaux wines for half or even one third of the price. Another disappointing 2006, yet the softness of this is quite atypical for the vintage I think. 15/20

Not especially expressive aromas of blackberry, cedar and redcurrant, leading into a soft, velvety mouthful of blackberry and violet, with blackcurrant only starting to show after a few hours in the decanter. It's all very restrained and subtle, a little too much at first - the wine was so laid-back that it was a little dull, but once it fully opened there was a lot more fruit, with extra tastes of raspberry and wild strawberry creeping in. The most attractive side is the plump velvety tones mid-palate and the subtlety of the fruit - all in all I liked it a lot but there are better wines from Margaux in 2006 - for example, Dauzac and Issan.

Bottle in good condition. Classically styled. Attractive nose of dried fruits, cedar and some secondary leathery characters. Restrained body, cassis, cherry, earthy overtones which doesn’t quite deliver on the promise. Acidity and tannins prominent, typical for the vintage. Oak a bit overdone. Overall, enjoyable drinking without much excitement. Good match for slow roasted pork.

My note from 4 1/2 years ago was correct. Tannins have subsided and this was a lovely Bordeaux. It checked all the right boxes. Decanted for an hour and drank with apps on the deck. Saved a glass for grilled prime ribeye from good ole Costco. Perfumed nose of dried red fruit, leather and cedar. Cheers!

I am a longtime fan of Ch Giscours and it was one of the bottles that I bought on release and kept in the cellar for over a decade. So had high hopes despite the tricky 06 vintage. Unfortunately, it didn't deliver. It does have some nice elements: a delicate nose of red fruits with a bit of flowers and black cherry on the palate... But the main problem, it's overoaked and out of balance because of it.

Lovely perfumed nose. Deep purple color with slight bricking. Medium body. Flavors of cassis, dark cherry, tobacco, and licorice. The tannins are still pronounced, but there is good balance to the fullness of the fruit. Elegant. Just in its drinking window, but has another 10 years ahead of it. Excellent.

From a magnum, much better than the one I had a few years ago. This was still quite awkward right out of the bottle but developed a bit with decanting. Powerful, some austere fruit though balanced in other respects. Not one I'd seek out, and doesn't feel as old as it is.

Very pretty aromatics- floral , red fruits (I guess from the merlot) , some cassis and tobacco. Aromas are evolved but not overly pronounced. This is probably as good as it will get.
Medium bodied with plenty of acidity, medium tannin and a restrained palate of red and some black fruits, tobacco and some vanilla. Nothing extravagant on the palate, but a refreshing food wine, that will keep everyone happy. The finish is medium.
Overall - well done for the vintage. I would drink up , but there is enough acidity and flavour to keep for another decade in a cold cellar.

Firm, strict, classically styled wine, with high levels of acidity that offers more pleasure in the aromatics, with their tobacco, leaf, red berry, spice and earthy nuances, than on the palate. Time could soften things here, but I am not positive on that one. The wine was produced from a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot.

Again, this is giving lots of pleasure from 375 right now. Lovely dark fruited nose with a floral perfume, clove and chocolate notes. Short decanting gives the fruit expansive inner mouth feel with lush dark cherry, blackberry and nice touches of cedar and roses.

A business dinner (Restaurant De Lage Vuursche, Lage Vuursche, NL): Almost ten years since I last tasted this - when it was still in barrel. Relatively meaty and masculine in style, open nose, slightly medicinal, crisp Cabernet fruit, well-balanced, medium weight, fresh and energetic, slightly earthy, spicy finish, very good length. A classic Giscours.

Classic cabernet nose of black fruits, (cassis and blackberry) and vanilla- also some smoke and spice. Nose is evolving.
Medium body with medium plus tannin and medium acidity and plenty of structure. Lots of black fruit and also some savory notes on a palate that finishes medium plus.
This is an example of great so called "off vintage" Bordeaux that was a relative value on release. Went well with cheeses and charcuterie as we watched the Falcons pick apart the Pats. (who knows what the second half will bring)
Drink now or hold for a decade in a cold cellar.

Well I'm glad I have another one of these bottles, didn't know that until I opened CellerTracker to record this tasting note. Bought this in 2009 for $39 at the NH State Liquor store and now consider this a bargain. The time in the bottle served it well. It has been a while since I had a decent claret so this bottle was a treat. Opened it at 4pm and decanted and stole a bit for a taste and it was very tannic. Started serious drinking of this as dinner was being prepared a couple hours later and wow the decant did the trick. What impressed me the most about this wine was the nose as it showed that classic parfum de Margaux. I wish I could bottle the scent to capture that essence of fine Bordeaux. This wine is in a nice drinking window and it feels like it can go 5-10 years at this stage and it matches well with a grilled steak. Cheers!

Once again really pretty out of 375 a hair more expressive than the last bottle. Great Blackberry, Cherry, Floral and Smoke notes at this stage. Elegant and silky palate feel with reserves of glycerin right now. Finishes with tart blackberry, floral and anise notes. Drink or hold.

Better on the nose with its earthy, spicy, forest floor, tobacco and cherry personality than on the firm, medium bodied, tannic, fresh, red berry centered palate. Perhaps, time will help soften the wine. The wine was made from a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. The Petit Verdot was not ripe enough to add to the blend this year.

Combined Wine Night (Pine Close): Tasted blind. Drank over 2.5 hours. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of vanilla oak, cedar, ripe dark red fruit, black cherries, some savoury earth emerging. Developing. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol (13%), smooth medium tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of leather, savoury earth, black cherry, ripe dark red cherries, dark red plums, vanilla, cedar, slight bell pepper with more air. Long finish. Very good quality. With the ripe fruit character here, I was guessing this was a SuperTuscan Cabernet dominant blend. Just entering the nice drinking window now, this will continue to evolve over the next 4-5 years. Doesn't really show the elegance of the Margaux appellation though. Typically a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Aged in small oak barrels (30-40% new) for 18 months.

Nose: Black Cherry, Framboise, Cocoa and a hint of a floral/funk note. Palate: Silky smooth feel (best part of the wine), with red and black fruit and some chocolate notes. Could use more complexity. Finish: Broad fruit and leather notes with hints of espresso and floral.
Great from 375.

Based on the prior reviews, I was pleasantly surprised. This wine is ready to drink (we decanted moments before drinking), medium bodied, great with food ranging from fried chicken, duck confit and French onion soup, and all the earthiness one expects from Bordeaux with attractive fruit notes. Perfect for a celebratory dinner.

I like the wine but I don't love it. I have another bottle and I do look forward to drinking it in the future but can't say I'm excited about it, just happy to drink it again and see how it compares to the first bottle and enjoy it for what it is, which is an okay-to-pretty-good Margaux (at least for my palette). It's moderately enjoyable, probably a good deal better with food (I drank the bottle mostly without) and perhaps will let the second bottle have a lot more air time. I agree with Parker's description of the wine and I think the WE review got it wrong - this has aged quickly and I'll definitely drink the second bottle in 2016.

(Decanter Fine Wine Encounter 2015) :: Decent complexity, though quite a discreet and subtle fragrance, still quite primary and floral notes, showing hints of more tertiary leaf and soil characters. A well poised and balanced mouthfeel, with lovely soft tannins and a med+ finish.

At first this is quite austere and thin, but after some decanting some charm develops. This is nicer on the nose than the palate. Better vintages of this really show so much better than this. Not a wine I'd seek out but if the price is right it could be useful. This is likely on the decline or at least won't be improving with more age. 89 - 90pts.

Slightly muted nose. I was pleasantly surprised with the palate. 2006 has always tasted a bit hard and hollow on the mid palate but with some age this has softened in this wine and is more developed than I expected. Some raisined fruit, lovely viscosity still with some primary fruit too. Definitely drinking well. Lovely mineral/ fresh tobacco finish. This is not knock out but well balanced.

Dark purple color. Three hour decant. Somber, muted nose. Very silky entry. Black fruit and cedar. Relatively thin mid palate and short finish. Really ready to go. My first 2006 and actually the youngest Bordeaux I've tried from my cellar. Looking at my 2006 holdings, the scores on the 2006s on ct for theses wines are really modest - no better than my 2002s or 2007s. Tasting this 8 years in its kind of what I expected. 89

Couleur grenat brillant.

Darkish garnet color with slow legs. Strong scents of tobacco leaf, cassis, cigar box and secondary spice -- nutmeg, vanilla. Starts thin but spicy acidic fruit kicks in mid-palate and finishes strong. Very dark- fruited -- plums, currants, and mulberries. Chewy oak and grape tannins. Better on the nose than the palate and a bit atypical and dark, but still a decent red with some life left.

Blind tasted as part of the BBR Wine Game.Wine was decanted for 3 hours and definitely helped it. Nose was straight to Left bank Medoc. Lots of dark fruit, light cedar and herbs. Light spice. Classic nose. Ever the lightest touch of oak. On the palate it is tight, with firm tannin but still not austere and just about entering its drinking window. Has quite a bit of time to go but this is a proper solid effort.90-91 for now

Décanté environ 1 heure. Couleur presque atramentaire. Nez sur le cassis, puis un passage d'arômes de savon, retour des fruits noirs après une trentaine de minutes dans le verre. L'attaque en bouche est vive, la structure du vin est solide, les tanins mordants. Beau potentiel.

2012 CellarTracker Bordeaux Trip; 5/21/2012-5/24/2012 (Bordeaux, France): 60% Cabernet Sauvignon / 40% Merlot. A very elegant nose and not giving much, dominated by aromas of prunes, along with black plums, black pepper spice, and black licorice. A solid showing of anise and prunes up front on the palate, as well as black cherries and plums, black pepper spice, and some herbal flavors in the form of rosemary and mint. A fair bit of acidity here along with a moderate amount of tart bitter tannins. A medium length finish ending on notes of prunes, black pepper, and rosemary. Tough to call at this point, this is pretty shut down and not giving much right now. Good

Thanksgiving 2011: On the young side and not particularly complex at this point (and may never be), but nevertheless, showed some nice characterisitc Margaux flavors and aromas of cassis and tobacco. Great aromatics of black currant, dried figs, sweaty horse, and graphite. The wine hits the palate just right with a broad, rich profile that showcases black fruit and spring flowers. The finish is tinged with toasty cedar (presumably from some judicious use of new oak) and a minerality reminiscent of crushed rocks. Lovely, well rounded wine with well integrated tannins, acids, and oak. Will cellar, but it's a drinker right now.

This is a different experience compared to the beginning of this year. Good oak and black fruits in the bouquet and juicy cassis on the palate with a firm dose of good tannin. Good concentration and a long finish. Needs probably another 5 - 7 years of cellaring.

Dark red ruby with a most inviting array of happy, quality scents. The first time I found the qualities of liniment and surgery room in a wine :-) (These don't disturb in any way.) On the palate it is an elegant wine with race ande finesse. An ABC of Margaux at it's best. Well balanced, tannins racing (mmmmm) excellent balance, longevity in the mouth... and a lingering after burn of liniment. It really arouses my curiosity: What will be of the liniment in 15 year's time?

Clear dense ruby core of moderate intensity out to a bright magenta edge and thin watery rim - very youthful. Clean moderately intense nose of cherry, plum, some earthy notes as well as some Copenhagen chewing tobacco. Dry on the palate with moderate alcohol, body and acidity with moderate+ firm and a bit green tannins. Plum, bitter chocolate and tobacco flavours. Good finish with the tobacco carrying on. I'm concerned there's not enough fruit support for the tannins - may dry out in a few years.

WFA Bordeaux 2005/2006 Tasting by the Wine Review (Suntec Convention Centre, Singapore): Decently good. Sweet toasty nose, with cherries and cassis, along with a touch of soy bean, some earthy, meaty tones and a nice flowery touch. Pretty attractive. Palate was pretty good as well. Nice clean feel, sweet fruit in the shape of cherries and plums, some meat, a little flowery low note and a pleasant spiciness moving into the finish. A bit short, which is something I do not think time will cure. Other that that, it is just a little loose-knit at the moment, should hopefully draw together and gain a bit of focus over time. Drinkable now, but I would give it a few years.

Classic example of a "lesser" year Margaux.

Relatively meaty and masculine in style, open nose, slightly medicinal, crisp Cabernet fruit, well-balanced, medium weight, fresh and energetic, slightly earthy, spicy finish, very good length. A classic Giscours.

First half super bowl wine
Medium ruby appearance.

My first 2006 and actually the youngest Bordeaux I've tried from my cellar. Looking at my 2006 holdings, the scores on the 2006s on ct for theses wines are really modest - no better than my 2002s or 2007s. Tasting this 8 years in its kind of what I expected. 89

On the palate it is an elegant wine with race ande finesse. An ABC of Margaux at it's best. Well balanced, tannins racing (mmmmm) excellent balance, longevity in the mouth... and a lingering after burn of liniment.
It really arouses my curiosity: What will be of the liniment in 15 year's time?

Dry on the palate with moderate alcohol, body and acidity with moderate+ firm and a bit green tannins. Plum, bitter chocolate and tobacco flavours. Good finish with the tobacco carrying on. I'm concerned there's not enough fruit support for the tannins - may dry out in a few years.
