Ninth bottle from a full case purchased at auction in Amsterdam in 2013. Consistent with my tasting note from April 2021. Vibrant acidity, peppery, grippy, crushed red berries and warm spices, attractive vegetal note, tight and energetic finish, good length. Perfect company for ribeye steak with green peppercorn sauce. It is losing a bit of weight. Drink now - 2026.

Drinking very well, in a perfect mature drinking window with still years to go and highly recommend. Very good QPR Bdx. Briefly decanted tableside and I would recommend a longer 60 minutes+ decant if possible. Almost inky black, no bricking, well balanced and integrated, elegant, smooth, medium - full bodied and with a medium length aftertaste. Aromatic nose of dark stone fruit, expected Margaux perfume and coffee. No surprises on the palate - well controlled balanced oak and tannins, dark fruit, cassis and a surprising raspberry note and a darker earthy terroir-driven finish of stone, earth, mushrooms and a hint of smoke on the aftertaste.
Had for a good friend and wine aficionado's 61st birthday dinner and this was in a lineup with an '18 Cameron Dundee Hills chardonnay reserve, '17 Cameron Arley's Leap pinot, '04 Cayuse Frog and an '06 QC Galitzine cab....

Well, it is always hard to follow Chateau Palmer, but this wine managed to do it. Close to maturity? with notes of red berries, spice, earth, herbs, Margaux perfume and a few tannins n the finish.
Delicious on its own and even better with the pate and slow-roasted, herbal French ducks.
Drink now or hold.

Eighth bottle from a full case purchased at auction in Amsterdam in 2013. It is showing well, fully mature but fresh and vibrant, crushed red berries, peppery and spicy, medium body and lovely flavour intensity, vibrant acidity, still grippy tannins, long and energetic finish. Its vibrance is its best feature - drink over the next decade. Drink now - 2030.

A very nice wine the after a mild decant showed good verve, supple fruit and a creamy finish. As the tannins are very fine, this is an easy and very enjoyable wine with finer cuts of beef. The flank steak was a bit robust and not the ideal pairing as it overshadowed all the subtle flavors.
Drink over the next five years

The innate generosity of the terroir works well with the inherent strictness of the vintage and the wine displays a lovely tension and balance between the two. Fragrant nose, open and expressive, red berries and white pepper, flowers and a hint of earth; light to medium body, energetic and fresh, well managed tannins, hints of vanilla and cream; tight but not austere finish, very good resonance and length. At peak, drink now - 2026.

An easy afternoon with close friends (@ BV): Beautiful bouquet with chocolate, sweet spices like vanilla and oak. Same on the palate, dark and red berries, full bodied, good acidity and round tannin. The wine is in fact beautifully mature. Will deliver beautiful drinking this year and in 2020, but no reason to keep the wine any longer. I just see this note is a little less positive about the potential compared to my also blind note of March 19th. It could be the storage conditions. I don’t know. Both wines were not from my cellar.

Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow" #037: Bordeaux 2003, 2004 and 2006 (By me): Red and dark berries in the inviting bouquet, with sweet spices, vanilla and some ok bell pepper. On the palate a juicy wine with blackberries, cassis, chocolate, beautiful acidity and slightly sticky tannin. Maturity stage now and still a future of several years.

Good honest wine that stays loyal to the grapes. Winemaker clearly hasn't fallen for the temptations to push the wine further than the basis material allows. Kudos for that.

Perhaps it’s a reflection of how wine-making techniques have improved and/or global warming but I suspect that 25 years ago we might have been over excited by this wine. It is a beautiful crafted, harmonious wine that is easily taken for granted. Not as profound as the 2005 but hard not to enjoy. Better five hours after opening suggests there is no rush to drink it. Red berries, smoke and burnt wood to the fore. Very enjoyable.

Much better than expected, after reading the critics' reviews. After Batailley, another good 2006. The nose was fresh, fruity and winsome, with blackberries and cherries offset by some smoky herbs, the attack was well-rounded and fresh again, with blackcurrants and cherries, before a fairly rich middle section and a decent finish, just marred by a slightly coarse, metallic sensation. Decanted a couple of hours before drinking. Not the best du Tertre ever, but light years ahead of the Cantemerle 05 which was opened at the same time - and a lot cheaper. If it loses the coarseness this will be worthy of a few points more in the future. Probably ten years ahead of it and excellent value at present since the 06s have been entirely overshadowed by the 05s.

By the glass. It is so purgative, harsh and even annoying on the palate that someone would say that this is a Paulliac. Acid fruit that requires food to temper it. Clearly it needs time.

Classical claret, beautiful interaction between the bitterness and acidity. I find a lot of Boreaux being too high in bitterness and too low in acidity but this one is spot on. It start showing secondary aroma's but no hurry of drinking this complex and rich wine.

You don't have to know how to pronounce it in order to enjoy it. This Margaux is just one of those wines that hit your sweet spot, making you fall back into your armchair to think about how civilizations were born. Ready to drink beautifully and will not develop further. Enjoy the aromas of dried leaves, mulled blackberry, vanilla stick, dark chocolate. Fine, medium-bodied and easy-drinking like that sweet leftover milk in your morning cereal.
Fruit, earth, wood, something maybe funky. Tastes pretty good, still holding it together, but seems to be missing some complexity. Somewhat lean 'n' green.

First bottle from a case, decanted for three hours and drank without food. Lovely claret. Bright, fresh, balanced with red fruits to the fore and a moderately tannic finish. Classic Margaux, but it won't impress those who like high-alcohol fruit bombs.

With the tell-tale strictness of the vintage, the finish is still tannic. There is fruit, the fruit is ripe, and fresh, but the wine requires several more years before it softens and gains enough secondary nuances. The wine was produced from 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.

Dark inky color, fragrant fruity nose with hints of leather, and meat. Soft first taste but bidy and structure builds to a nice smooth finish. Modest tannins, red fruits, meat, earth and medium length linger.

There's lots of attractive development here. Deep crimson core, starting to brick at the edges. A burgeoning, scorched earth note on the bouquet settles down to cherries, red berries, and leather. Structured and chiseled, juicy and energetic, with a hint of peppery spice complementing savory and red fruit flavors. Long and broad on the finish.

Medium bodied Margaux. Although it did not get many possitive reviews on cellartracker, I really do like this wine. Du Tertre 2006, trumps Du Tertre 2007 which trumps Du Tertre 2008, which is odd considering the vintage. I tasted this bottle from the barrel at the chateau and back then it at a lot of caramel but now the initial smell is vanilla. Chocolate and leather dominate. Acidity is medium and will keep well for another 5 years minimum.

Weekly tasting group #215; Old- or New World wine? (@ The factory by MN): After revealing what we had in the glass I am certain we had a faulty (or mistreated) bottle, because the wine was much more developed than it should be. I made some blind notes: In the bouquet dark berries, celery, soy, autumn impressions and animals. On the palate tertiary with sweet spices, chocolate, herbs, figs and coffee. Mild acidity and soft tannin. Not undrinkable and even pleasant in a way, but too far gone for a 2006 Du Tertre. No score.

Medium bodied, with a lot of development in the color, the wine offers a truffle and red berry nose, soft textures and earthy, fresh red plums in the finish. This is a ready to drink charmer.

Decanted for 1hr. Seductive margaux nose. Really sweet, plump, brambley fruit. Lots of spice, cedar and vanilla on the finish. But the sweet fruit steals the show. Excellent. Never had a bad du tertre and thankfully it remains great value.

Second and third bottles of a case, consumed over a couple of days. Decanted >1 hour. Medium-full colour, showing some development. Dark nose, a bit closed, eventually some cedar and smoke notes to go with the restrained primary black fruit. Cool and elegant on the palate. Fruit is perfectly adequate, but not plump; covers the tannins well (these are already quite integrated and show through only on the end). Some length. Quite classy. Certainly no blockbuster, but quite classic Left Bank claret from a non-blockbuster vintage. Will be interesting to see if the nose opens up again in future as it evolves further. Good plus.

First of a case. Decanted nearly 2 hours. Deep ruby colour, still quite full. Initially quite closed aromatically, but opens up a bit when worked. Some elegant notes (floral; eucalyptus?), but overall quite tightly wound claret. Good on the palate - medium bodied, still some primary fruit but with secondary nuances now too. Not exceedingly complex mind. Balanced. Some length. Gives great pleasure, and drinking very well just now. But there's enough acidity and sappy tannin - and overall balance - to suggest this will keep going (though not necessarily improve) for a good while yet. Very good.

Our first time sipping this Grand Cru Classe en 1855, 5th Growth Margaux. A pleasant blend of 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Murky purple-red on the eye. She need 2+ hours before being ready to dance. Aromas of sweet red fruits with slightly grassy overtones. Palate exhibits warm structure, virtually unnoticeable tannins with bright red fruits. We think she is waltzing nicely now and will command the dance floor for several more years. Outstanding QPR.

Transparent and elegant style, red berries and hints of pepper and spice, feminine and generous, pure and very recognisable, silky texture, fresh and well-balanced, relatively light weight but energetic, very finely etched tannic structure, good length. Still a little bit tight on the finish, but it is clear that the 2006 vintage suits Du Tertre very well.

Unmistakable Bordeaux - Held its own over a few days. Medium bodied. Short to medium length. Brick color has started to appeal. Fairly tannic and acidic - although well balanced with the fruit in my view. Drink now or over the next five years.

Found an unaccounted for bottle in the cellar, fruit on the nose seems a touch more forward, with vanilla, cedar, graphite and dark fruit, palate is a little austere with bitter tannins, feel this was better younger or right now is in a difficult phase of evolution

Tasted in double-blind fashion, this deep garnet wine showed an herbal edge throughout. Green olive and bell pepper elements are in the forefront, with black currant fruit lurking in the background on both the nose and palate. The wine is medium-bodied, has medium acidity and fairly light tannins at this point. The alcohol is well-integrated and the middle palate is solid. Concluding with a medium-length, tart finish, this iteration of du Tertre fails to provide the "joy factor" that this château usually delivers. Drink now-2019.

Took a risk by popn' and pourin' without decant this nice 2006 Margaux. Not the best year in wine history but was still looking forward to this wine.
A bit shy after opening but a great perfume came out after a couple a minutes, great wine to put your nose in! On the palate round red fresh fruit with a velvet structure, hell yeah this wine is ready for it! Tannins were round and give a nice bite without being annoying or unbalanced. Love it! Pairing with a wildboar and venison stew was a formidable match, god bless Margaux ;-)

Lovely black current nose. Palate is fresh due to good level of acidity. This bottle seemed to have more grip than the last with less creaminess. That makes it a bit more classic which is more to my taste. Good length.

In the glass it is dark ruby with a hint of purple in the centre and a tiny bit of age showing at the rim. Note is meaty with black currant, leather, spice and smoke. Palate is filled with dark fruit and peppery aftertaste. Mid palate is a bit light but the after taste is 20 seconds long or so. Tannins are present, but soft and well integrated. It drinks beautifully. Given the soft mid palate and this not having lots of primary fruit, I am not sure it will get significantly better, but I do think it will drink well for quite some time. 2 = good

nice nose of cedar, cigar box and red fruit, similar palate but i was getting a green almost bitter (leaf/stem) component I didn’t particularly enjoy on the finish
Decanted for 30 minutes and then rebottled, drank over two evenings. Red fruit and wood aromas, lovely colour, with still a hint of purple. Plum and cherry fruit with nice acidity, medium finish. A little more open on the second evening; whilst very drinkable now, will probably be more interesting with a couple more years of bottle age
This is an amazing wine. It's a bit lower than the 2005, but it's still an outstanding and very round wine. The fruitty nose is simply lovely. It's taste is elegant and round. Need to decant at least 1.5h. 2h to 3h is better. This wine will improve in the next upcoming years!

Bouquet: Aromatic. Boiled green vegetables, violet Flavor: Boiled green vegetables, tart red berry and cherry, spicy, bitter cherry appears on the mid-palate and finishes with milk chocolate and vanilla. The 2006 du Tertre is a merlot-dominated, piquant and potentially elegant wine. However, at the moment you can only feel the aggressive tannins and the strong acidity, so it needs several years of bottle age. On the other hand, it´s not that concentrated, so the optimal time of drinking will be hard to find. But there´s certainly potential for a score a few points higher. 86+ points, drink 2016-2026

Brought by friends

Classical claret, beautiful interaction between the bitterness and acidity. I find a lot of Boreaux being too high in bitterness and too low in acidity but this one is spot on. It start showing secondary aroma's but no hurry of drinking this complex and rich wine.

Ready to drink beautifully and will not develop further. Enjoy the aromas of dried leaves, mulled blackberry, vanilla stick, dark chocolate. Fine, medium-bodied and easy-drinking like that sweet leftover milk in your morning cereal.

A bit shy after opening but a great perfume came out after a couple a minutes, great wine to put your nose in! Pairing with a wildboar and venison stew was a formidable match, god bless Margaux ;-)
