Amazing wine. Med transparency ruby with notable rim variation. Smells of dried bull rushes and black tea. Freshly turned clay soil. Leather and withered cherry and cooked plum and inside of old garden shed. extremely long and full mouth smooth rounded off-dry finish.

Nose is tomato — the fruit, the stems, the leaves — somewhat herbal, meaty as well. Palate is nice; very earthy, barnyard, pepper — both black and green — with black licorice (anise). The tannins still have some grip, which surprises me after 15 years, but soft all in all. Complex, mature, enjoyable, and very fun. Had this bottle sitting around for three years after receiving it as a Christmas gift, and enjoying the gift yet again.

Medium bodied old world red. Popped in poured table side. Some nice light fruit with a subtle nose. Pallet spanned the earthiness of a French Rhone with the light fruit of the Grenache combined with some aging gave a nice start to finish wine. Someone at dinner side one that had a taste mentioned that they could identify taste of pepper in this wine. Definitely in a good place now, not sure what more aging would do for this.

This wine is showing in prime form right now. It has a medium-body, with really pleasant acid and tannin in perfect harmony right now.
The bouquet is of red fruit (think sweet cherries and ripe plums), along with a hint of forest floor, mushrooms, and tar. Maybe a hint of anise in there as well.
The flavor profile is similar to the bouquet, still showing a strong core of fresh red fruit (cherries and strawberries for me), some umami flavors (maybe soy sauce or caramelized mushrooms), and finishing with a distinct note of black licorice. Finish is medium to long.
I think this wine is excellent right now; it could last another year or two, but I don't know why you would hold it...DRINK.

At this stage of life, brick red with slight tan lines. Old leather, mushroom, roast meat, pepper dominate with the barnyard of youth virtually gone. Still vibrant, but mature. Medium long. From the list, Capital Cellars, Boise Id.

Ruby with browning and some sediment. Initially it was all red fruits and some earth. There was an astringency on the finish initially that wasn't nice, but this eventually started to go away. Later on the wine took on a meaty, unami component. Good wine, but it was better a couple of years ago.

I could have bad bottle but I don't think so. This wine is utterly horrible. On the nose it smells like a wet dog and wet moss. In the mouth it's sharp with almost an aerosol mouth feel and tight tight tannins.
The first sip was bad. So I decanted for 1 hour and poured another glass. That was bad too. Poured back into the bottle and let sit overnight. The next evening it was still bad. Poured the rest down the drain.

Appearance: Bright and clear, medium (-) intensity garnet with legs. Nose: Clean, with medium intensity of red fruit such as baked plum and raspberry, dried fruit of prune, sweet spice such as cloves, animal notes of leather and farmyard with some maturity notes of forest floor. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry, with medium acidity and medium (+) tannin of grippy texture, this wine is of medium (+) alcohol with a medium body. Medium intensity of red fruit such as plum and raspberry, sweet spice of cloves, dried fruit of prune, it has a medium (-) finish. Conclusion: Good quality level premium CDP with reasonably intense nose and palate, showing good complexity, however it has certain flabbiness and with only a fairly short length, indicating the wine has reached the end of its life and should be drunk now and not to further age.

Medium garnet with an orange ring. Cinnamon, cherry pie filling, and wet cedar chip scents. Better on the palate, with wild strawberries, cherries, marjoram, and thyme. Opens up in the glass quickly, with the tannins melding smoothly with the fruit. Perfectly timed on this one: down to earth and not under it. One Of the better CdPs I've had at this price range.

Solid CdP. Nothing special. Pretty young, this bottle could've been aged longer though I'm not convinced that secondary flavors would come through meaningfully.

Ruby colour starting to brown. Has that old library or used bookshop aroma to it. Sorry for the weird reference. Has none of the barnyard funk that I tasted on this same wine a year ago. Well balanced, long finish, but not as memorable or complex as the last bottle of this I had.

From 375 What does a northern Rhone grower know about making Chateauneuf du Pape? Trust the label, this is good juice! Throwing considerable sediment, this wine begins with a gorgeous bouquet, and leads you into sweet fruit on the palate, and a loooong finish. Entry level Guigal wines never disappoint.

Kitura nailed it with the previous note, just fantastic. We popped and poured into a decanter and drank right away. I can't help but think it could have been a point or too higher with a proper decant. Burgundian in appearance with slight bricking at the edges of the glass. Just the right mix of barnyard funk, earthiness and fruit on the nose. Pure finesse on the palate with the dark red fruit, leather and spice combining in a long finish.

Blind Châteauneuf-du-Pape tasting (Our House): Lighter red with some bricking. Beautiful barnyard and earthy aromas. Smooth and silky mouthfeel, with red fruit, mint, leather, and earth. Ready to drink.

This wine may be seeing its peak. Quite Burgundian in nature - lots of rank animal smell considering its Grenache backbone. Smell is masculine and deep, on the tongue the wine is lively an fruitful. The finish is beautiful, although not the classical Provence that is expected. I think a game quality shows up again.

Reasonable alcohol level for a Chateauneuf du Pape. Dark wine. Good body. Not much aroma or complexity but recognizable as as a CDP. Good with grilled duck breast.

Overall an excellent bottle with a big layered nose and balanced flavors that is drinking quite well right now and went perfectly with our prime rib that was smothered in au jus. Wonderful nose of light cherry pie, earth, pipe tobacco and minerality. Great balanced flavors of subdued red cherry, hints of strawberry, tobacco, forest floor and cloves on the finish with well integrated tannins.

Beautiful CdP. Darker than most, but very balanced. Classic style with low alcohol and there may not be any syrah in the blend. This is truly the wine to drink while all your other CdP is ripening. A solid 3 hour decant and it was perfect. Had with a morel, dandelion, and Gruyere omelet - went nicely. Fantastic QPR also.

This was quite nice and showed good Provencal flavors. The wine is inky and purple, coating the mouth with a medium heavy feel. The wine shows good acid, integrated tannin and solid congruity for the price. Very herbal, not green, with some dust and smoke, finishing with the white pepper.

This is a solid effort but still not developed enough. There is abundant fruit and some hints of the complexity to come, with spices, bacon fat, wet earth and floral tones. But at this stage it is quite primal still. Give it another 2-3 years in bottle and then enjoy it for another 5-6.

Very good and still young cdp enjoyed last night at Artisanal in Banner Elk, NC with Kim, good ct wine buddy neighborbill and spouse Debbie for Debbie's birthday. Really enjoyed this, a good QPR, definitely recommend this wine. Very dark, medium bodied, well balanced at this point, entering a reasonable drinking window but clearly has years of cellaring potential left. Nose initially muted with a hint of barnyard but opened up quickly with aeration in glass with dark cherry and burnt oak present. Outstanding flavor profile, surprisingly dark with dark stone fruit, blackberry, terroir and leather with black pepper accents. Would love to taste this again in 3-5 years.
