Brick-ruby color, amber edges, showing its almost 19 year age. Moderately viscous and quite translucent. Pronounced aroma of almost pure cassis, with some plums but no herbal or barnyard components. On the palate surprisingly soft and round, medium body, cassis flavors, elegant. I expected a bigger, much more concentrated flavor. There is no tannin left. The aftertaste is medium length. Overall excellent, but a bit of a disappointment from what I expected. I will try one of the two remaining bottles to see if it is the same. If so, it's time to drink up. It will also be interesting to try 2005 The Ark for comparison. Addendum: 6 hours after opening it opened up considerably. The aroma developed some French oak and the wine was fuller bodied, with a longer aftertaste. The following evening it was definitely darker, which may have been from some sediment. Aroma and flavor were more pronounced cassis and plum, with more prominent tannins. French oak was now more evident. The aftertaste was much longer and a bit hot. This was an excellent example of a wine changing over 24 hours, becoming darker and richer. For our next bottle I will open and decant it the morning of our dinner. My score increased from 91 last night to 96 tonight. Ric

Solid wine. 2 hr decant. Napa lovers will probably rate this low 90s. Bordeaux lovers may rate i high 90s. It compares very well to a 2005 Margaux for example. For me it was an easy 98 but I took the average of the group. :)

Dark ruby-garnet with crimson under the light. Intense red cherries with ripe purple plums dominate the nose with ripe wild strawberries framing it. Had this in my cellar for a decade and opened, along with a 2009 Shafer Hillside Select at Hawksmoor NYC with good friends. Was much less of the extracted fruit bomb of its youth and displayed mature, almost Bordeaux-like notes of earthy tobacco over its blackberry jam undertone. Improved some in the glass but seemed to be in a fully mature state. Overall liked the Hillside more, but still a very fine bottle. Dont think this gets better, so drink up!

Rich garnet red. Blueberry, blackberry, rich plum, ponzu, anise, wet white oak, perfume and rhubarb. Hedonistic on the palate without being overly saturated. Some eucalyptus with a presence of alcohol. Deep dark cherry on the finish. We’d recommend drinking now or over the next 5 years.
p.s. snake river steaks with roasted brocclini and cauliflower purée.

Beautiful floral nose with a tinge of sweet smoke, vanilla, butterscotch, and sweet red fruit. Like velvet on the palate. The tannins are very soft. Bitter-sweet black fruit with a long, finish of dried cranberries. Would love to taste this wine a couple if years. . . .

This bottle gave us an over the top, jammy fruit bomb nose from popping the cork throughout. Deep purple color with ripe, juicy red & black cherries, red fruits and plum that coated our palates. But the absence of tannins and acidic balance gave us only the faintest of structure, so this overly lush, sweet and flabby bottle wandered aimlessly. The intense sweetness made it a chore to swallow after the 3rd sip - we all abandoned our glasses.

Wine Advocate 1000-point dinner in NYC (Gabriel Kreuther): Not going to rate this because for whatever reason it was showing with a strong green pepper note that ruined it for me. I tasted two different bottles and while it was less pronounced in the second, it was still present. I'm particularly sensitive to this flavor as were some of the other tasters but others thought the wine was great.

A pnp wine that intensified in the glass over a two hour period. Do not decant as you will loose the full beauty of the wine. The wine had a huge nose when the cork was pulled and you could smell its intensity across the table. Dark red ruby color with some slight bricking at the edges. The wine had a silky mouth feel. Fruit was fully integrated with a 30 second finish. There was no indication of alcohol and the tannins and fruit were balanced from beginning to end. The wine seemed to take on Pomerol characteristics as it matured in the glass. I believe this wine would have been even better after four hours in the glass, so take your time and enjoy the show.

Easy 95......beautiful red fruit, light, clean, fresh....layers to the fruit and perfectly balanced acidity. Thanks to Jim Aronson for the bottle over dinner. This was easily the WOTN at the table. Drinking exceptionally well right now. In that sweet spot that is great for the Cali fruit loving people and the start of the aging for the secondary BDX drinkers. Really nice wine.

Wow, can’t believe this wine has 10+ years on it! Deep ruby with slight garnet at the rim. Big concentrated aromas of black cherry, cassis and licorice provide the initial aroma profile while cedar and tobacco reveal themselves as you dig deeper into the glass. Cocoa powder and mint complete this intense wine. Full-bodied and creamy on the palate with a fair amount of acidity left (I can only imagine how much acid and tannin this had on release) and tannins that still have some grip left. Long pleasing finish. This wine still has a lot of life left, however, what makes this wine great is the purity and concentration of fruit and that is peaking now. Excellent wine!

Youthful, bright ruby color. Rich nose showing dark berries, medicinal notes (in a good way...), expressive and primary. Palate was black cherry, blue fruits, some (brambly?) blackberry, cocoa powder, mineral notes. Still a concentrated and rich wine, showing secondary notes of blue fruits and oak through the mid palate. Full bodied, long finish.
Really great showing on this evening (maybe WOTN for one of our group). The RP 100 points on this wine had expectations high - it was good but I wouldn't score this bottle as perfect. Really well made - great now, likely has another 15+ years in it....

5 hours slow ox and then 2 hour decant. Absolutely in its drinking window, but plenty of life ahead. Tannins had noticeably softened from first opening. This had far more finesse than I remembered from a bottle I had four years ago. Beautiful fruit and a lush feel on the palate. Drink or hold.

Decanted for 1 hour and honestly needed longer. Really impressive wine but a bit hot and wound up at the finish. Again, my fault for not giving it a longer decant. The wine quality was superb with silky texture and fig and creme de cassis. I personally don’t think this warranted a RP 100 rating but it was really nice and what you would expect from Hundred Acre

Feels ridiculous to keep giving 95+ rating to all the wines we had at the SATT dinner (with one minor exception), but the quality was just amazing. This wine was all smoke, grilled meat, dark berry and licorice. Amazing

Not sure I agree with 95 point ratings. I've had several bottles way cheaper than this that have had more complexity. Is this bottle in the "upper crust" of Napa? Yes, definitely. And, when you see Hundred Acre you definitely listen up. This wine is big, massive, bold, yet quite a bit one sided. The thing that makes me most impressed with this wine is the lack of age. It just doesn't seem like this wine is over 5 years old. Has the powerful fruit on the front, and this particular bottle even after 30 minutes was quite powerful on the finish. Still had some acidity, still had some tannin. QPR is atrocious. I ended up drinking the rest of the PNV Farella, 76 Chapellet, and the 2012 Jessup as these wines to me seemed to have a lot more going on.

Texturally this wine is just really nice. So smooth and no rough edges at all. Decanted close to 2 hours which was perfect. Blue fruits, charcoal, dark berries. Very good balance. This was lovely and in a great spot right now.

Opened a 2005 Continuum and 2005 Hundred Acre Kayli Morgan to celebrate our friend Micheal's birthday. Both were decanted for about one hour and both were outstanding but really different. The Continuum was savory and complex, with tea, spice and red fruits. The Hundred Acre was sweet and smooth, with more blue fruits and mostly primary flavors. Before dinner, the Continuum was the clear group favorite. Both wines were superb with food (grilled portobello mushrooms and pesto pasta).

This bottle was extremely tight and closed completely. We drank a 2009 and it was spectacular and ready to go but this was completely muted. Even after a few hours of decanting didn't help much. This must need more time in the bottle or the bottle was flawed.
On the second day we still had half the bottle left. Wine was much softer. Strong fruit flavor of cherry and a little heat. Much better second day but still NOT a WOW bottle of wine.

I last tasted this a year ago. Nothing has changed. Lush, concentrated, palate-staining wine with layers of cassis and berries. Legs like treacle. We drank this at a dinner celebrating California wine alongside a remarkable line-up of 13 Cali wines. This was not the all-round favorite; however, who cares - it made me happy, like it always does.

Bang bang big bottle of California Cabernet. Opened up at Peter Luger's NY and wished we could have left it to decant 2-3 hours but we were greedy and drank it bang bang. Huge on the nose you could smell the fruit and earth across the table. This wine has another ten years to mature lucky for me I have more bottles resting in the cellar. Between the steak and wine it was a love affair.

Man, I was really disappointed with how this wine showed. Big and brawny - even after a four hour decant - with a cough syrupy back end. The nose was just as big and juicy. Nose showed big plums, purple fruit, bitter chocolate and vanilla. Mostly, though, it was just fruit, fruit and too much fruit with not much nuance or support from any supporting characters. Couldn't get around the over the top viscous quality even in the aroma. There was a sweetness that showed after even longer in the glass but it certainly wasn't a great wine. When you take the price into consideration, I could only imagine my bottle didn't perform as it should from variation, storage (doubt it) or maybe the winebid purchase (as with past) is risky for that reason. I have an '08 and '09, we'll see how they fair in a few years.

Opened by xhoser. A big and brutish California cab but with surprisingly good balance. 15.5% alcohol. Deep purple color. Concentrated fruit. Firm tannins. A hint of alcohol with notes of blackberry, coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Mouthcoating finish. 95-96 points.

Dinner with xhoser (Topaz Cafe, Burr Ridge): Drank side-by-side with the 2005 Araujo. Aromas of black fruit, vanilla and cassis. Structured, with loads of black fruit. This is more tannic and concentrated than the Araujo, with exuberant fruit- slutty. Flavors of cassis, blackberry liqueur and vanilla. For its size and structure, it is nicely balanced. Drink now-2022. Thanks for sharing xhoser!

Big, rich, fruity, complex, balanced wine with silky smooth tannins and a long, long finish. Drank alongside a 2005 Schrader T6 Cab - courtesy of JimN (what a treat!). JimN thought the Hundred Acre had more fruit. I loved both and would be hard pressed to make a choice.

For me this was wine of the night vs. the other 05s (lewis cuvee L, winter wine estate, Dr. Crane - Beckstoffer). Young but beginning to mature. Smoked meat, blueberry pie, hint of pencil lead and stone. Massive yet subtle and well proportioned. Full mouthfeel with layers of fruit harmoniously combined. Long, long, lasting finish. Decanted 6 hours.

While I do not drink at this price point, i thought this was a fantastic napa cab with amazing depth at the midpalate through the finish. Big dark fruits on the front with a heavy but well balanced layers to vanilla, cocoa, coffee notes. Despite the bigness it still had an elegance to it which made it special. High 90s and plenty to time to peak. -S

This wine is so good right now. Tannins have diminished letting the fruit come right out. Thick dark red color, with notes of raspberry, kirsch, and cocoa hints. No need to decant. Popped, decanted and drank, saving some for tonight. This wine just got better and better in the glass. Amazingly rich and complex out of the cool cellar and decanter and it just grew and grew but never overpowered. I can hardly wait until tonight to taste it again after a full day in the decanter. Actually, it might not make it past lunch!

Tightly wound, playing its cards close to its chest, this begins relatively simply, offering slightly reticent aromas of dark cherry, currant and new oak; some time in the decanter and some vigorous swirling in the glass bring suggestions of sweet plums, purple flowers, and oak spice. Medium bodied on the palate, tightly wound again, with sweet tannins and a round mouthfeel.

Hard not to like these wines. Straight in the glass, rich, lush, smooth and wonderful, with almost no tannin. Will it get better - can't see how. Superb wine-making and guaranteed pleasure but maybe lacking in a little exciting complexity.

Absolutely amazing wine, qualifies as one of the best cali cabs I have ever had. Silky smooth tannins, wonderful fruit on the mid palate, long lasting finish. Seems like a much more mature wine than a 2005. I cannot imagine that it will dramatically improve with additional aging. If only I had more!!!!

Deep ruby red appearance with slight paler hue at the edge. Extraordinary nose filled with deep red fruit cassis, and a hint of frsh mint and spices. Body was opulent yet completely balanced. Tastes of raspberries, black currents, and sweet tannins. The steak brought out the beautiful balance of the tannins and fruit. This was perhaps one of the top 5 wines either one of us have had the pleasure to drink.

I have to admit, this wine was delicious. I generally like wines in a more "traditional" style - less ripe, more acidity, tannin and earth. This wine is not that. It is ultra-ripe, with barely enough acidity to keep it from collapsing into a cloying sweet mess. The tannin is very mellow. While I would not describe the wine as complex or multi-layered, it has a fantastic richness and concentration that makes it a pure pleasure to drink. Sometimes, a simple, but incredibly buxom, dinner companion can be very satisfying.

Second time I have had this, but from a different 3-pack this time. Figured a perfect match with rib-eye and burgers. Drank hot tonight, like the last time. Yes there are some nice fruits on the front palate, and the tannins are big, maybe too big. But the problem is the heat ruins the finish on this wine. Shared with 6 others and nobody was wowed. Having also had the '05 Palmer and '05 Cos many times, both of which are crafted big and sweet like the Kayli Morgan, I just don't see the Kayli in the same league.

This is one of, if not the, best California cabernets I have ever tasted. Why so special? It's because it marries perfectly the ultra-fruity ripeness of many of its peers but is much more layered, complex, and even elegant, a term almost foreign to my vocabulary for California wines. The texture is lush and velvety and the alcohol is completely hidden. I would have been positive there was a good dollop of Merlot in there if I did not know it was all cabernet sauvignon. The tannins and acidity are there, but amazingly well integrated for a four year old. There's a mixture of soft red and black fruits - blackberry, blueberry, raspberry. My only concern is that it will not live long at this level and I cannot imagine it will morph into something better or more interesting than it is right now.

Popped and poured which was a big disservice. Slightly austere at first with some menthol and graphite on the nose. Gave this some time in the glass and it started to strut its stuff. Acidity was bright and fresh but not overpowering like when bottle first opened. More graphite and some spice emerged in the mouth. Finish was neverending and teeth staining. Huge wine that needs decant if opening now. Will try to be patient with the rest.

An elegant wine, as it typically is, with great balance and depth. The only reason I didn’t rate it higher was because it was seamless, without the structure or “grip” of the great ones.

This was very well balanced. Lots of fig and plum and a bit spicy. Nice wine.

We drank this at a dinner celebrating California wine alongside a remarkable line-up of 13 Cali wines. This was not the all-round favorite; however, who cares - it made me happy, like it always does.

Bang bang big bottle of California Cabernet. Opened up at Peter Luger's NY
and wished we could have left it to decant 2-3 hours but we were greedy and drank it bang bang.

CT Offline IV--Hill Country Edition; 5/18/2012-5/19/2012 (Austin / Texas Hill Country / Castleman Ranch): Sweet apricot on the palate, along with some dark, bitter cherry as well. Really nice, but somewhat bitter as the palate progressed toward the end. Certainly smooth enough, and not overly-acidic or tannic. Think the fruit will mellow out to be nice and smooth in a couple to a few years.
