Just 3 cl served in a glass of cognac. Selection of spirits from El Corte Inglés. On the nose stand out aromas of vanilla, candied and dried fruits. Notes of hazelnuts and licorice are added. On the palate it stands out for its dense silky texture presented by waves, its bitter alcoholic finish and its amplitude. Its structure extends for several seconds.

A bit too much alcohol hit the nose first, followed by candied oranges and raisins; rather hot on the palate, raisins, roasted nuts, and stewed apples; hot and long finish; overall, 87-88 points; not much to my liking; would stick to Hennessy Cognac VSOP as my regular house brandy.

Medium amber, clean on the nose with medium intensity. Aromas reminds of orchard fruit (green apple, pear), citrus fruit (orange and lemon), spices (clover, nutmeg, light vanilla) and toast. On the palate it has a very light sweetness with smooth alcohol and medium body. Very light tannins are perceivable. Flavour intensity is medium and reminds of apple and pear at first, giving way to spices (vanilla and nutmeg). Some ripe citrus fruit is also present. Finish is medium and shows some complexity. I am by no means an expert when it comes to cognac, but I enjoyed it. Alcohol is not overwhelming and a light sweetness rounds it and makes it easy to approach. Not very intense or long, but appreciable and versatile.

“Spirits of the World” (non-blind), Spirit 2: This Cognac was medium amber in colour and offered grapy notes, stone fruit, peach, apple, dried orange peel and a hint of vanilla on the nose. On the palate the Cognac showed grapy notes, stone fruit, peach, apple, some smoke, some liquorice and a hint of vanilla, with moderate heat from the alcohol and average length. A medium-bodied, medium-complex, reasonably balanced Cognac.

Believed bottled around 1990. Level 8 cm below the stopper cork. If anything, this old bottle is proof that the trend toward greater sweetness in big brand cognacs is very regrettable (even my beloved Delamain XO has fallen victim to it). This one has the floral fragrance and the chalky elegance one associates with Champagne Cognacs; it is light and flowing, relatively young but without any rough edges; there is lovely ripe fruit, and it is fresh and pure without the oppressive caramel and boisé sweetness introduced in more recent years. The colour is lighter too; old gold rather than amber. I will savour this one while it lasts...

Very sweet nose with overpowering licorice character- something I associate more with Fins Bois than the champagnes. Very sweet, nondescript palate. Boring and pointless. Waste of what are probably very good vineyards.

Nose: Very tropical, the profile reminds me of the Germain-Robin Muscat(!), which is a pleasant development. Apricot, mango, day-old pineapple (the acidity has worn off). It's a bit spirity and soft. There's some trace of wood, and vanilla and poppy-seed cookies. There's a slightly plastic aroma, too.
Palate: Soft, light-medium body. Fruity and sweet. Totally muted in terms of flavors promised by the nose. Sugary and water and artificial. There's a slight and bland watery-wood note. Really devoid here, and no sense of fruit for the most part.
Finish: Only a little fruit here, and almost completely silent. More subtle than the nose, and rather disappointing. C-/D+
I recognize that this is designed and used mainly as a mixer, but I'd have expected more on the palate, at least, to stand up to whatever would go with it. I was intrigued by the nose; it wasn't as good or complete as the G-R Muscat, but, by golly, it was at least similar. The palate, artificial sweetener, and watery nature made this unobtrusive, but also rather unpleasant for me.

On the nose some burned sugar(caramel) and apricote. Alcoholic palate with hints of orange peel and caramel. The flavors are overpowered by the heat. Otherwise decent stuff.

WSET Level 3; 4/7/2010-7/21/2010 (London): WSET Systematic Approach - Group Nose: pronounced caramel, apricot. Palate: alcohol (40%). Quoted Price: £31.99 Comments: complexity arises from the use of a pot still, as well as the terrior and judicious use of oak.

Distant nose of caramel, honey and pastry with a nutty undertone (like a baklava), orange. Deeper in, the oak comes through with richer fruit and a touch of banana. Quite smooth on the palate though a little sharp on the back. Quite persistent, some cloves coming through. I'm glad I bought a bottle of this stuff.

Amber, with fruit on the nose, like orange. Harmonious fruit and spice in the mouth; a fair variety of spice notes -- cinnamon, nutmeg, coriander.
