  • pop & pour, the consumed over 3 hours

nose: has that resin-y character, plus deep, ripe apricot/pear aroma. very faint indications of oxidation (which become much more apparent on the palate and were easily overlooked the first hour or so on the nose)
palate: high-toned (in fact almost spirit-like, but without the 'firewater' sensation). Oily and resinous, the fruit is secondary to the pitched and pithed palate direction. A lot of orange peel and orange oil, there is very little sweetness to the fruit. Very interesting. Can't see it pleasing many people, but wine nerds like me may rejoice in such a bottle for $8.

  • A little flat, lacking acidity and verve. Still, nicely drinkable, though badly paired with homemade chili.

  • gentle, honeyed bouquet, nutty and involving on the palate with incredible texture--rich and oily without being heavy in the least. finishes softly but leaves quite an impression. amazing stuff for $10.

  • Pretty consistent to the previous bottle with maybe more pineapple notes. A very light oxidative touch.
    Enjoyable.

  • Light in color and on the palate. Lacks definition and not enough acidity. Not flabby, but not enough fruit for real interest at this point. LC liked it, but she likes all things Musar.

  • 100% Obaideh, 11.5% alcohol. Almonds, honey and dry white fruits on the nose. Fat, low acidity but balanced, it's fun to drink even if this is not crazy complex but at that price it is well made. Palate is quite similar to the nose. A touch of mint/herbs as well. It reminded me of a white Rhone blend in its profile.

  • Low acid, low alcohol, almost fruitless, notable woody scent. All this notwithstanding, this wine was decently balanced, very dry and pleasant. I do not otherwise know this grape, so cannot judge this wine as a representative.

  • Pale to medium yellow, initially nose perhaps suggestive of premature oxidation, with a nuttiness and some petrol prevailing. Highly unusual aromas of almond, oleander and a hint of citrus rind. On the palate, not as obviously oxidative, medium-bodied, with a hefty full mouthfeel. Really hard to peg this wine, and not sure what to expect as I've never had a Musar before, and certainly not this grape (Obaideh) in any shape or form. Reminds me a bit of an aged white Hermitage, as it shares the waxy character I associate with Marsanne/Roussane blends, but definitely less refined. Also similar to Savennieres in flavor profile. An interesting wine, but not entirely my cup of tea.

Incidentally, this was ordered from Garagiste and was supposed to be the Cuvee Reservee, but I received the middle tier "Cuvee Blanc" instead.

  • This hits me with two very striking things right off the bat - a rich, golden color and the distinct aroma of sage honey flowing from the glass. In the mouth this has an extremely oily texture. Floral on the palate with striking minerality and herbal notes. Somewhat similar to what I would imagine biting through the center of a rosebud would be like. Perhaps some tree fruit lingering in the background, pear maybe?

After a couple of hours in the decanter the flavors seem to have integrated a bit and the tree fruit makes more of an appearance on the midpalate. Overall the word resinous comes to mind....

This was a very unique wine! My first time with Obaideh. It has been a flavor journey and I have experienced things in a wine that I never had before! I can easily see this turning a lot of people off, but for me it is an easy 88.

  • Some sweet fruit and floral aromatics in the pinot blanc direction but with a weighty style, reminiscent of marsanne.

However, one could also say that it lacks the freshness of the more aromatic cold climate white varietals, just as it misses the more complex marzipan/hazelnut range of flavors of the more upscale white rhone wines. First night we mismatched this with a creamy but salty cheese from Bourgogne which brought out some very dominating orange/apricot preserve sweetness.

But one should perhaps not ask too much. It is absolutely one of the better white wines I've had south-east of Italy.

  • Golden honey yellow color. Nose of oxidized apple, yeast, and flat musty Champaign. The palate is a dry and light weight with flavors of watered down apple juice, lemon zest, and soft fruit. The finish has a streak of moderate acidity and length. Overall this wine is interesting but I would not call it enjoyable. It has the feel of a well made wine but the flavors are less than appealing to my palate.
