Stunning! This wine definitely needs a long decant - 4 hours would suit this right now. At first an overwhelming cherry bomb on the palate that settles down after time. Developed some hints of spice and fruit toned back after several hours. Great stuff that still has at least 8 - 10 years ahead of it.
At first rather shy... But then a generous and sublime nose. Red fruit of rosehip and raspberries. Good depth with chalkstone minerality. Developed notes of sandalwood,sSpices and a beginning meatiness. Medium body, harmonious, spicy palate. Smooth and grippy. Ripe tannins and good length. Succulent and juicy with a nice liquorice finish. This wine is in a very good place now. Tasted half-blind this was identified as one of the three Volnay's.
Wow, this was not what I expected (or hoping for). Not a bad wine, just very forward with tart fruit and a medium long finish. Not balanced for my taste as it was simply too fruit driven without a ton nuance. I'm certainly not against fruit but I guess I was looking for something more earthy and Volnay-like.
