In magnum. Classic aged burg nose with inner perfume and sous bois. Palate was notably lean and light with a short finish. Over the peak. 94 is a difficult vintage.

Rousseau '92 and '94 Dinner (Scottsdale, AZ): Sweeter and more inviting than the Chambertin. Tremendous minerality well balanced by fruit on the long finish. An impressive wine.

Rousseau Chambertin Clos de Beze event; 9/11/2015-9/12/2015 (Capella Hotel Georgetown): Pale color. Delicate yet hedonistic nose of perfectly mature Burgundy, delicate light red fruits, strawberry water, perfect amount of sous bois, a slight hint of brandy, light caramel and sweet spices. Very delicate, light red fruit driven palate impression, warm and round, just right amount of acidity, no noticeable tannins and lovely sweet finish. Certainly the lightest Rousseau of the night. Light yet incredibly delicious. It is neither concentrated nor terribly complex but I would love to drink this all night.

The worst $700 bottle I have ever opened, really. Flush cork, excellent fill. One owner. Smelled from the decanter, subtle dark Pinot with a little bit of game and spice. Doesn't jump from the glass - you have to work for it. Peaked at 45 minutes. Always more austere on the palate than on the nose. Suggested being a great wine without being one; there were moments when you'd get a dense, dark, perfumed fruit inflected with game rising out of the decanter but it never lasted. Just glimpses, nothing more.

This time I opened the bottle 2 hours before drinking, and decanted 1 hour before drinking, and it made for a softer, richer, more complex wine. The bouquet was still characteristically farmyard and red fruit with subtle spice, but the palate was richer, denser, less "rustic". I actually rated this a notch higher than the Rousseau Chambertin of the same vintage consumed a few days earlier.

Failed to drink soon enough and was somewhat past its sell by date! Had very little fruit left and that characteristic burnt and bitter taste of a wine past its best.

Brick colour. Compelling nose with lots of red fruit, cherries, redcurrants, combined with classic pinot farmyard and subtle spice. Not all of that promise comes through in the palate, which is chewy, rustic, a bit rough and sharp. Not very subtle, bit one-dimensional, but for a supposedly lousy vintage, a very drinkable burgundy, for which, hats off to Rousseau !

Really quite good for a 94. Clear reflection of both the skill of the producer and limitations of the vintage. It's at a good spot now but I doubt it will get better. Soft and easy. Given the price these things are going for nowadays probably not great relative value

1994 Rousseau Chambertin Clos de Beze - This goes to show you why the producer is more important than the vintage. Nice structure and balance. Not the depth and complexity of the others but a very fine wine on it's own. 91 pts

Drunk at The Oak. lightening a bit in the class, on the nose the red fruits are still there. Main flavor is still primary but it is becoming a bit rustic and leaner. still very together but perhaps not as fruity and vibrant as the Roumier just drunk. medium long length and stayed alive in the bottle through a long dinner, couldn't help myself and i made sure to finish the bottle

Quite austere - but with a finish that showed itself fleetingly, but hinted at great complexity. I wonder if this might improve (?) Currently a very good food wine.

Slightly cloudy appearance, pale/medium garnet. Attractive, understated nose, with red-toned fruit, some slightly exotoc wood-spice and a hint of earth. Relatively light on the palate with light, with attractive raspberry fruit on the mid-palate and light reasonably well integrated tannin. Without being particularly profound, this comes together quite nicely and has some nice savouriness and an attractive, slightly earthy finish.

We clearly go up one notch (and even more) with this bottle. An imposing wine in a rather rustic style, it takes at least one hour to really reveal itself - one of the few examples of Burgs that come to my mind that would benefit of decanting. Verbal notes in the beginning that are totally overwhelmed by fruit afterwards. Outstanding.

Tasted after the 1997, this was a bit paler, and a bit leaner, but in taste very similar with dark fruits, and with a touch of sweetness. Lovely
