Dark magenta in the glass. Decanted for 1 hour before Mr/Mrs WineGuy Del Mar arrived for their visit......this one is resolved, smooth and integrated. Drinks easily like a beautifully aged wine. But the red fruit is still strong! Feels like it could be a '13 (see the Kobalt coming next)...lol.

Slo ox 3 hours, decant 30 min. Dark impenatrable color. Nose erupts from the glass with dark fruit, saddle leather, smoke, spice box, secondary notes. Full bodied with sweet tannins resolved. Balanced in all ways and smooth on the palate. Deep, long finish, pulls you back in for more and more. Spectacular wine.

Last one, and going out with class. Still showing deep, supple fruit, and a big, wet kiss of the vanilla oak that always marked this wine. It still has some tannin, so there was no rush to drink it. That said I am glad I did, as it made Thursday night a little more fun. Not profound. Just fun.

Dark ruby/purple color. Nose is expressive and deep, showing dark and blue fruits, dried flowers, cough drops(?), some damp earth which showed less with time in the glass. Palate has a lot going on... showing raspberry/red fruits, blueberry, graphite, asian spice, cinnamon, savory/meats, mineral notes. Tannins softened but still present. Full body, long finish (45 seconds).
I looked up the blend - this one is about 2/3 merlot and 1/3 reserve cabernet. The plush texture owes to the Merlot content. I did not pick up as much oak on this tasting as referenced by other tasters.
This is intense mountain fruit - it may not appeal to everyone. For what it is and intended to be, it's an outstanding wine. In a good spot and should drink well for the foreseeable future...

Vinetasters: 2005 Bordeaux 2nd Growths (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. From the nose, this seems like the ringer to me. The nose has an intense prune/raisin element, and significant overripeness. The palate shows some dessication and a bit of coconutty oak. Overwrought for my palate; possibly a slightly modern producer’s 2003? My 12th, group's 12th.

The bouquet showed tremendous depth, with a mix of candied spices, sweat herbs, and medicinal cherry, yet complemented by blueberry, dried flowers, smoke and hints of charred meat. On the palate, I found velvety textures with mineral-tinged zesty acidity, as flavors of bright red currant and blueberry faded to cranberry, dark chocolate and cinnamon spice. Hints of tannin lingered on the finish, along with saturating spice, mineral tones and mouthwatering acidity. The '05 is on full display tonight, with no risk of decline and a great example of the vintage.

Pizza and wine dinner with Kevin M in NYC, splash decanted this one and drank over an hour.
Deep purple color, mild separation at the edges. Great aromatics, baked raspberries, caramel, tobacco and earth notes. Dark fruit palate, plums, cassis, black currant, cranberry, baking spice and floral notes. Rich mouthfeel, fruit forward and extracted. Seems mellowed given the style, oak is muted and integrated, tannins are mellowed. A little heat when first opened that blew off after about 30 minutes, Long and smooth finish.
This is a big wine, intense mountain fruits and extracted style not for all palates but well made. Would do better with a longer decant than we afforded it. Drinking well now, should continue to mellow and improve over the coming years.

NR as I was savoring glass after glass of the '78 Gaja Barbaresco at this dinner, this was - as expected pretty extracted but came up shy of being cloying / heavy, good deep fruit profile with some cedar and almost green elements (but not bad green), avoiding being that totally extracted fruit bomb, had some real secondary elements to make it interesting / nice, even if too "big" for my personal tastes

Gorgeous aromas: gingerbread/spice cake, with floral notes on the edge and even a hint of coconut up front. Tannins still noticeably present. This blend has room to run and should continue to develop.

tasted amongst a 1999 clerico pajana and a 2005 gaja barbaresco. stook out like a sore thumb, in my humble opinion. And I'm a big Pride fan to boot...big fruit bomb, strong even disconcerting coconut, distracting. perhaps it needs its own venue. Get it out of the Italian section, Duane! Bummer wine esp considering my expectations

Decanted for 2 hours. Had a great nose when it was opened, but the flavor was initially muted. Decanting solved that. Served with grilled steak. Still ahs a dark ruby/purple hue, no bricking at the edge. Acts like a younger wine. Dark fruits, anise, cassis, mocha, and cocoa on the nose. This was followed by black currant, anise, tobacco, chocolate, herbs, vanilla and spice flavors. Long smooth finish. The tannins are smooth, no heat in the finish. This is at a good place now and will easily hold for years and probably still improve.

I was immediately surprised when I poured this wine, as it was not impenetrably purple. There was in fact a bit of lightness at the rim. The aromas were still fresh, with ripe berry and cassis keeping the oak in relative check. While there was a bit of heat for 30 minutes or so, air brought more depth, and the overall texture was silky. Quite delicious!
Not my usual cup of tea, but it sure hit the spot last night.

Decanted 90 minutes, but was pretty 'open' from the get go. Dark fruits on the nose and palate that were very ripe, almost pruney. Loads of vanilla oak, chocolate and etoh. Palate felt a bit hot and lacking acidic tension. Silky smooth texture with soft tannins. Good penetrance and length. Served next to a Rottlan Torra Tirant, which may have made this look unidimensional and clumsy in comparison. Doubt this will improve, but should hold well for several years.

A long time fan of Pride Mountain and all things Bob Foley, I could only dream of the day that I might be given the opportunity to taste this highly-coveted wine... Unfortunately, my expectations were far too high, as the experience was underwhelming; particularly when compared to my memories of their "liquified Viagra" Merlots of the mid-90's. Both this and the '01 Reserve Cab - drank a couple bottles before it, represented the fruitier wines of the group. In all fairness, those others were stalwarts ('99 Conn Valley Eloge, '08 Oakville Winegrowers Cab, '03 Karl Lawrence Dr. Crane, '03 Arieta Ovation, '01 Melka Metise). Just maybe, I'll be fortunate enough to have a repeat encounter, though I'm not holding my breath. (No score given.)

It's big and rich but it has balance. The fruit is powerful but it's not over ripe but straightforward and textured. There is a growing flavor of tobacco on the backend that's still subdued and light but hopefully it'll develop over time Still has a brutish tannic structure but it holds the fruit in place. Really enjoyed it.

Did a side by side tasting of 2005's - Reserve Cab vs. Claret. P&P, though both could have used decanting time. Claret is smoother and better to drink now, still could enjoy more cellar time, and the Reserve Cab definitely needs more time. Both are typical Pride - ripe, fruity and delicious! Loved them both but the Claret wins out right now.
