  • The absolutely gorgeous nose jumps out of the bottle before it hits the glass! This limpid gold light green chardonnay starts with fine flint and licorice spices, silica and other minerals, and a little sweet cream. In the mouth, this superfine liquid enters laser-beam-like but expands and at the same time stays so dry and taught. It stays on the flinty side in the mouth but has a natural sweetness that balances the wine and gives it a little, dare I say, forwardness. It drank better on the cool side. I would note that this young wine, at the end of day 2 and 3, in a glass, warming to room temp. maybe showed a hint of heat. I wouldn't worry too much though. However, I will defer as to its ability to age because I have no experience with young Sauzet, but in my opinion, this great wine will go the distance, discounting PMOX, of course.

A little revision here, but I want to leave my old note intact so you can see the slight struggle I had with ageability and is it too modern or not. Remember, I have not had a lot of experience with Sauzet. After drinking a 2006 Combettes two days later, I wonder- not doubt- a little on its ageability. With air and as it warms, it shows just a little heat and oakishness. Sorry for bouncing here a little, I'm trying to shoot as straight as I can.
