  • Mostly herbal and cedar notes on the nose. Still very dark in the glass. Herb, cedar, anise, tannins, and saline notes in the mouth. Overall impression is of a wine that has reached its peak.

  • A real oddity, 100% Petit Verdot. This feels like it has barely budged since my last bottle over 4 years ago. Tobacco and bright berry on the nose. The palate features very racy acidity and firm tannins. Fresh, juicy, powerful. A bit of savory vitamin. Wow, it really has just barely budged since I last had this in the Fall of 2010. There is a dark, brooding aspect to the wine on the approach, but the fruit gets very red, tart and fresh as it lingers. Certainly a very interesting wine.

  • I have loved my other 2005 Cadence wines - had not opened this due to it being 100 % Petit Verdot - turned out to be much better than I expected. Balanced, nice fruit, nice oak, easy to drink with grilled Kalbi marinated steak.

  • Rather muted - from what I've come to expect of an aged Cadence - but still better than most equals at this price point. This was undrinkable on day 2 [spat it out] - so I suggest you drink up now.

  • notes from second day open.
nose: black earth, cedar and coal. some oak nuance. at high (read: summer) temperatures alcohol becomes obvious, but at cellar temperature it's quite lovely.
palate: finely detailed, the dark blackberry flavor is simply scrumptious. The finish is quite long, and the tannin is sweet, soft, and melds easily to the rest of the palate. A simply lovely wine. Wish I had more than just the one bottle! 92-93 pts

  • Fascinating wine, the first 100% Petit Verdot I have ever tasted. Dark color. Somewhat savage with lots of vitamin pill, blackberry and mineral. Incredibly racy and taut yet with such a laser of salty minerality and chalk overlaying the very berry character of the wine. Surprisingly suave and long on the finish. More acidic than tannic yet still quite firm and powerful.

  • One of the better (and most unusual) bottles I've had from Cadence. Very dark color, with a nose of muted dark fruits. Taste like a delicious glass of dark fruits, combined with a very solid structure core of good acidity and smooth tannins. Only the second time I've had straight Petit Verdot, and it did not disappoint, dark, brooding and tasty. Drinking well now with some time in the glass and/or decanter, but certainly has a good life ahead of it. I've only got two bottles left, so I'll probably wait a year before diving in again.

  • Popped & poured 1.5L bottle in decanter at Sotto Sotto over some excellent pasta dishes. Would have been paired better with a big, fat, juicy steak as this was a HUGE wine! Massive amounts of dark black fruit, slightly sweet, but well balanced. Nice acidity profile with hints of earth, spice & wood. Very pleasurable to drink & a unique experience as a 100% Petite Verdot wine. Was drinking well, but certainly would improve with a longer decant or more bottle age. Everyone at the table enjoyed it!

  • Striking, unusual and beautiful bottle. 100% PV, which is not to everyone's taste. But for most of us at the dinner, it was an incredible bottle of wine - dark fruit, jammy & spicy.

  • Very unique bottle of wine. An open mind and palate helps.
Wonderful aromas as you decant. These flavours and taste carry thru from nose to finish. Dark purple colour. Drinks more like port... with alcohol always present.
The fruit flavours are dark, deep and rich. The tannins really dominate the finish.
I have two more bottles I will open only with G.

  • Very impressive bottle of 100% Petit Verdot. Popped and poured. Extremely tight the first hour and a half, but then the wine really explodes. Huge nose of dark plumbs, anise and tabacco. The taste delivers exactly what you are smelling. Very dense stuff here. This is probably my favorite varietal bottling of petit verdot. Excellent, but hard to find more. Only 23 cases made.
