Astonishing freshness for this wine, created for ad hoc taste in 2006 (+4 at max), I have to admit that I like the sexyness of the wine. Chapeau!
Still, this is an international wine, made with international grapes, for an international auditorium, consulted by a flying winemaker, I guess. Michel, is that you? :)

Surprised how young this still seemed on opening, in fact needed a decant. However didn't really last well into the second day as was getting quite raisiny and a little sour so am guessing this is entering the sweet spot. Rich syrupy body with cassis, balsamic and oak. Tannins integrated and smooth edges.

RUSS Starts as an 88 w/ maybe to too much of a bitter edge. Finishes (after 2.5hr decant) as a 90 with the edge receding. Similar to the Modus, but with less. By day 3 (1/5full, vinvac and frig), the nose has become better (90+), more compelling old sangio nose. Finish still a touch bitter.

This was better than expected. Last tried two years ago, a tannic, mediocre wine. Today, nose was still moderate, with notes of cherries and dirt. Palate was more refined, tannins have receded giving a soft fruity taste with blackberries. Nice easy finish.

1 hour decant. Pretty aromas of sour cherry fruit and a little dry brush. Mouth-watering acidity frames decent richness but a little one-dimensional considering how many varieties have been thrown in here. Sangiovese dominates, but nothing wrong with that when it's as ripe as this. Excellent food wine, drinking top at the moment. Personal preference is not to drink this too warm, to preserve some of the focus and elegance. Drink now and over the next year or two.
EDIT : 24 hours in decanter. Acidity is still strong but the merlot is now really making its presence felt in a rounder and softer transition into the mid palate. Holding up ok, but I think I preferred the fresher and more focussed profile from yesterday.

This is more like it. Previous bottle had definitely been suffering. Good light ruby in the glass with a denser core. Looks very ripe. Some modest oak comes through early on the slightly herbaceous nose with a good slug of red fruit followng close behind. A little flowery. Medium body with a good hit of (very) peppery fruit which persists right through the mid palate and onto the medium dry finish. Nice fruity sangiovese tang, but the international blend makes it intrinsically softer than a lot of pure varietals. Excellent food wine and great QPR - the original "value" Super-Tuscan. Drinking very nicely now.

pop n pour, on air in glass ~20mins, This smells so true to the blend it is almost funny. It is mostly sangio meat and that almost"clean dirt" smell, with a strong undercurrent of bordeaux funk. Great tannins, good crisp, fresh and off-sweet fruits of all colors, and great medium acid to keep it lively. Second time around, I still love this wine, and outstanding QPR.

Fairly dark ruby, legs are a little stunted and running slowly. Some intiial bottle must blows off to leave a vegetal nose with a pronounced metallic tang. Have some doubts to condition of bottle. Slightly mean attack although some sour cherry peeks out intermittently. More metal here, probably a characteristic of the sangiovese coming out. Finish is very dry and short-moderate length. Not scoring this as I believe the bottle is not pristine - not a formal flaw but certainly having a bad day. Storage concerns prior to acquisition, although at a frankly ridiculous £4 ($6) a bottle if 1/3 are bad then it's still a deal. Based on previous experience with this wine this bottle is not representative. Will cook with the rest of it...

Super-Tuscan style at a modest price, this wine is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. You can taste the French grapes in the deeper, plush flavors and aromas of plum and cassis. There is spice and herbal notes as well with a bright aftertaste. Good with food.

Dry with a good amount of fruit, and I would call them blackberries. Excellent food wine to quaff with your pasta. Not going to blow anyone away, but this simple selection is just what the doctor ordered for that bowl of spaghetti after Wednesday night bowling.

Dark color as you would expect. Nose that reminds me of tobacco, plum, and dried cherries. To me it was almost a stewed profile, but not cooked. The palate is bitter cherries, coffee, and earth. The finish is short and a tad milky. Overall this wine is just ok. The elements as a whole I have enjoied in other wines I think the major diffrence is the lack of concentration and focus of the various flavors.

Fine wine, overall. Day 1 a little tight. Day 2 with a night in the fridge it open up and the front end had a lot more full fruit, but the finish developed a little barn yard flavor that I tend to shy away from. Not sure I'd get this again. There are other similar Italian wines I like better for less $.

Decent wine with red fruits and herbs. Good structure and a little tannin still. Starting to show some development - a good food wine, especially when a ragu is involved and you don't want to kill anything fancy with all that tomato.

nose: not as bold as the 03. There is a interested roasted herb component to it with dark cherries, some cured meats, dark berries, dark cherry, violets, and some earth inflections. Nicely balanced, and is a bit more subtle then the 03
taste: nice medium/low tannins and lower acid with leather, roasted herbs, dark berries, violets, and dark cherries. Very pretty and elegant on the palate.
overall: Smooth and polished, there is a lot of class with this wine. Not a blow away by any means, but its just really damn good. The aromatics don't scream like the 03, but the feel has so much more polish and elegance and creeps up on you. Good lush medium feel with a dark cherry attack and roasted herb finish

Lean and claret-like at first with a fair bit of tannin. As it opened out over a couple of hours more herb scented fruit with a nice gamey finish. Modest nose too of red fruits. oregano and a touch of game. This needs a couple of years to soften a bit but has the potential to be a pretty decent wine.

Dry with a good amount of fruit, and I would call them blackberries. Excellent food wine to quaff with your pasta. Not going to blow anyone away, but this simple selection is just what the doctor ordered for that bowl of spaghetti after Wednesday night bowling.

Cab Sauv shows on nose & palate, decent cleansing freshness. Good length, good with food.

Youthful in taste with cherry, and very nice mature flavours on the nose.

Espresso leather tobacco. Junipers. Big. Big brawny and spicy. A little hot and rough by itself. Great with food, the richer the better.

nose: not as bold as the 03.

Light to medium body, with earth and a little brett, upfront acidity, and some cherry and and a little raspberry on the thin finish. Very Italian. Less enjoyable than previous vintages unless you are a fan of the rustic Old World style.

Good value! Full bodied, leather and oak together with lots of fruit. Decent balance, but no great complexity here. Decant for an hour at least! May even improve from cellaring.

Nez très typé sangiovese, avec des fruits noirs et une touche de vanille. Un peu mince en bouche, mais à l'acidité agréable. Tanins légèrement asséchant. Correct.

I was kind of surprised but I quite liked liked this. Clear Sangiovese profile of dusty black cherries with good acidity. Good structure but kind of rustic. This was not as polished and spoofy as I remembered from previous vintages. Nice with a Lasagna. Very good. Drink or hold.

I have been a big fan of the 2003 but this is leaner and a bit greener. Tannic. Has a slightly disconcerting soapy taste in the background. Hopefully it will mellow but I'm not convinced.
