Several years later than its presumed peak, cork disintegrated so wound up straining through cheesecloth into the decanter. Thoroughly mellowed and rounded off, all the deep fruit melded together. Slight oxidative notes, but mostly just a pleasurable experience.

dark red body, scarlet red rim, in the color. dark berry, blackberry, tart black cherry, earth, spice, espresso, leather, on the nose. structured tannins, balanced acid, on the finish. another 5-10 years this might settle down.

This is a good syrah. It's in a nice place right now. The nose is spicy and meaty. More spice and dark fruits on the palate. Good finish. Them boys at Ridge sem to know what they're doing.

Distinct meat, leather & earth that I expect from syrah. Nose of dark ripe cherries, light floral perfume, a hint of dill, & a bit of spice. Taste of meat, leather, dark fruit, finishing with floral notes, herbs, spice & firm tannins.

Accompanied Strip Steak with Red wine/red peppercorn sauce. Opened 40 minutes early, decanted 15 before dinner. Nice clear burgundy color, a bit light at the edge but no bricking. A joyous nose, inviting bruit, blackberry and cherry. Smooth, integrate, bold, some pepper to add zest, good length. Large wine but not flabby, nice depth of flavor. In my mind this gentleman is at his peak maturity (and maybe he even knows it).

Good fruit, soft aromatic nose with subtle hints of the viognier in the blend. Drinking nicely but could use a few more years to integrate all the oak.

Decanted about an hour. An excellent bottle of wine. Good fruit, not overwhelming. Minimal tannins but probably can go a couple more years. Wish I had more.

An absolutely killer wine. Mature, integrated, big rich wine with all the yumminess you hope for. Drank with Bill after hours at his B Day party, big fun wine. Cpmplex flavors, great lingering finish.

This was just as good of a bottle as I had hoped. Rich dark fruit and berry nose....mouthfeel is full and silky with great balance between fruit, acid, tannins....just works so well. Vanilla and flower notes throughout.

Another Ridge extravaganza with Lee and Lisa - on the night opened and enjoyed four bottles: '05 Ridge Lytton West Syrah, '05 Syrah/Grenache, '03 Petite Sirah, Lytton Estate and '02 Lytton Estate Syrah II. Enjoyed all with the '03 Petite Sirah and '02 Syrah II being judged the favorites.

Nose is full, but missing the fruit I was expecting. Finish has more acidity than expected as well. Mouthfeel is silky. Will be interesting to see how it opens up tonight and tomorrow.

Aged Bing cherry rocket fuel. Fruit still very much alive. Powerhouse. Totally delightful. Stored perfectly since purchased from the winery. Love it.

A bit light for a Syrah, though that is likely the effect of 20+ years. Nice and inoffensive with modest to light fruit. Drink up.

Less giving nose.
Rounder, softer, tarter, smooth dusty tannin, blackberry with peach and vanilla, some char, violets. Grippy mouthfeel, but heavenly essence.
