Flower Day - virtually no sign of development - still translucent garnet core out the the rim. Nose is damp loam, herbs, spice (caraway?), leather, dark fruit and light vanilla. On the palate very soft and smooth with mint, spice, red and black fruit with cassis on both the palate and long finish. Delightful and ready to go but with lots of life left - another 5 years at least. This is showing so youthful at 18 years of age.

Almost port like in appearance. Dense, dark purple, plenty of legs. On the nose, un-mistakeable Chilean cabernet, cedar, some leather, star fruit?, creme de cassis. On the palate, same as nose but quite minerally, loamy, graphite with still focused tannins and some acidity and alcohol. Thought this would be over the hill but it is still drink ing well, could improve if it eventually reaches its balance but not sure it will.

Ripe, rich and very modern with lots of purple fruit, creamy oak and the classic green peppercorn/tobacco of Chilean Cab. Could still cellar and improve for several years

Still getting a lot of green veggies, mostly peppers and celery. A fair amount of depth, well integrated tannins, and a pleasantly fruity midpalate that leads to a somewhat briney/olive-like finish. Overall a very enjoyable wine that stands up well to food but doesn't require any.

Me: "Oh, this is terrible. Do you want to try it?"
Wife: "Sure. ... OH DAMN! WHY DID YOU DO THAT TO ME?!?"
Me: "I told you it was terrible."
Wife: "You didn't say how terrible. Somebody had a bad day at work and pissed in the vat. That's what this tastes like."
Me: "But I warned you it was terrible. You wanted to try it."
Wife: "No, you just said 'terrible.' You didn't say 'this is really really awful, and you don't want to taste it.' You just said 'terrible,' and with you that can mean a little too sweet, not this vile brew."
Me: "But honey, sweetheart, I did say it was terrible."
Wife: "You'll pay for this, you bastard. Maybe not tonight, or even tomorrow, but you'll pay. I promise."
Me: "But sweetheart, I did say ... Oh, never mind. Sorry honey."
Wife: "You will be."

I disagree with a lot of the low scores here. From my perspective, this wine is very well made. Cherry, oak, menthol, and loam all in harmony. Great concentration and mouthfeel. Alcohol & acid...right there. Drank without decanting. I have had a lot bad twenty dollar wines lately...this one is a no-brainer. Bottle was stored in cellar so maybe it put on weight over the past 2 years.

This wine was opened for Christmas Eve dinner (NY Strip w/ Cheesy potatoes and a wedgy salad) 30 minutes prior to eating, no decanting. It is perfect in its window right now, expressive nose of currents, blackberry, vanilla, loam, and was very meaty. The palate was smooth and fully integrated, a perfect match for a great steak.

Very good, certainly if you take into account its price. Nice new world nose, beautiful balance, full bodied with a bit of a sweet new world touch, firm but enjoyable tannins, long aftertaste. Very good!

Decanted 2 hours. Lots of sediment in this one, so pour with care. Nose of cedar wood and black currant. The palate is big fruit: blackberry and currant, with some fairly heavy tannins. Dry, tannic finish with berry fuit and some mild alcohol heat. This should definitely lay down for another year. Even with the decant, still very young. Very well structured however, and my first Chilean cabernet. Excellent - 88 points.
Day 2: After sitting in the decanter overnight and all the next day, I tried this wine again. What a difference! The heavy tannins are mostly gone, as is the harsh cedar nose. Lots of smooth berry and currant fruit coming through. Still a tad tannic on the finish, but loads better than last night. I definitely recommend not cracking this one until 2009--at the earliest. Note: #49 in Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2007.

Drank over 2 nights, not much change over that time. Dark and full bodied, aromas of blackberries, black currents, tar, the second night I got some liquer or menthol. Drank well at this point with tannins under control but present. A good wine, not great at this point, a little more time in the cellar could help some secondary flavors develop more.

Similar notes from 11/21/07, this is a very well made wine, it has some of the typical Chilean cab notes of a bit of over the top cedar, but it's really, really good, probably a wine that in 5 years will be about $45, and all of us in the 'know' will lament the days that we used to get this for under $20!

Blueberries and some strawberry in the nose. Full-fruited, rounded taste, with well structured tannins. Even better balanced after 2 hours decanting. Will definitely buy more.

This wine is very confusing for me. It smells like a Cabernet and tastes more like a Carmenère. The color is very deep purple. The nose is currant and vanilla. The flavors and currant and slight vanilla undertone but there is the unmisakeable smokey flavor found in Carmenère. It's not bad just but also not what I would consider a top 100 wine.

Loved it, I asked my wife 'what is it on your 100 point scale?', and she said without hesitation - 91 Points (and she has no idea about the WS score, or it's Top 100 placiing), a testimony to James Molesworth perhaps, anyway this was excellent, and I do not understand the previous taster's scores, great Chilean cab, and a ridiculously low price to boot (91 Points).

Predominate flavors of red fruit with green pepper notes. The wine initially has a thick, viscous mouthfeel, but then fades some on the mid-palate and ends with a fairly short 15-20 sec finish, with little complexity or depth. Not one that I'll be re-purchasing.

Ripe black fruit on the nose mixed with some green bell pepper and vanilla. Full-bodied and well defined in the mouth with medium acidity and a medium tannin level. Finish comes up a bit short. Not to my style due to the green notes but, aside from that, a nice cabernet and one that goes well with food.

True to it`s region with the nice red fruit showing upfront and some green pepper and mint notes. Balanced and rounded but lacking complexity and depth.
