  • Deep Dark Purple. Quite large scaled and funky and absolutely delicious. Would never have guessed this was 22 years old. Bravo.

  • Dark purple color; a concise depth of of pure, deep ripe pinot fruit; spices, deep penetrating nose and palate staining fruit bomb; ripe and having a bit of unresolved tannin. Big (as this producer's wines seemingly always are.)

  • Funky, nicely intense. Good but definitely barnyardy.

  • What on earth is this? Blood, steel, soil, flesh, this could easily be Crozes-Hermitage. Or Culloden. Not a wine for the faint-hearted vegetarian. Giving this wine a number would be pointless, but it isn't very good. Perhaps in another 4-6 years something pleasant will emerge.

  • Whoo hoo, no modern style winemaking here. This a barnyard festival. Aromatics are loaded up with game, sauvage and Pinot funk. Palate is a mélange of gaminess, plum and spice-oriented fruit and a dollop of not too intrusive toastiness. This is a little wild all the way around. When it ultimately ended up paired with some roasted spring lamb it settled into its groove and the gaminess of each item worked in concert. More fruit game to the fore-palate and the funkiness dissipated. A really terrific pairing. Not a wine for everyone or for every dish but this was in a good place right now for lovers of that meaty Morey style. Good juice with a lot of gumption left in the tank. Will be interesting to see how that resolves over time.

  • Deep ruby with an electric pink rim. Gorgeous deep red fruit nose framed by subtle wood spice. Serious intensity. Glides across the palate with a lovely, velvety intensity. A number of flavor layers that saturate the palate for a good if not outstanding finish. I really like this wine – not refined, but bold and complex in a fun package. Delicious. I don’t see it getting any better though it is in no danger of going downhill anytime soon. Pretty great village. (92)

  • I find Tanzer's note of 2002 spot on - very good wine, not yet shut down but very primary. But nevertheless drinks very well.
