Drank my last bottle of this wine and it did not disappoint. Color started to fade with hints of dried cherries, baking spices with a slight medicinal edge. Nicely balanced and enjoyed this with Duck breast and leg in a cherry sauce. Perfect match. If you like your Pinots with some age, I'd give this even a few more years to play out.

Bright cherry red. Nose is pure eau de vie de framboise - not raspberry fruit, but high test alcohol. I have never been a fan of this vintage at KB and this one follows suit. Too alcoholic. My favorite KB single vineyard, but not tonight. (84)

Crimson in color. 14.9% ABV. Gorgeous nose of dark fruits, brown sugar and cloves. Wonderful fruit held in balance by the right amount of acidity. Nice grip on the palate. Flavors of black cherry, baking spices and sarsaparilla. The finish is long and toasty. Really nice showing from a vintage that many proclaimed would not bode well for Kosta Browne over the long term. Drink over the next year or two.

This was holding up quite well with aromas of strawberry, cherry, brown sugar and flowers. This was quite balanced and not super charged like some of the other KB's but definitely California. Displayed flavors of strawberry, cherry, sarsaparilla, and herb. Wasn't sure how the 2006's would hold up but this is aging quite nicely although I still prefer KB's with only 2-3 years of age on them.

Huge rich nose of red berry, cola, vanilla, spice and cloves. Palate is richly fruited but exceptionally juicy, poised and fresh. Chock full of red berry and spice flavor. Long spice-filled finish. You know what you're getting with KB, and this delivers 110%. Delicious. While this is big and rich, the wine holds it's balance and never feels heavy or cloying.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of black berries, black cherries and a bit of plums. Flavors of black berries, plums and a bit of currant. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink or hold. Pretty tasty right now!

PnP w/1 hr splash decant. Clear, med purple/ruby red color. Typical and classic big KB Pinot nose. I was not as impressed w/this vintage compaired to the 05. It had the usual Kanzler power but seemed a bit heavy and rough around the edges. Certainly a very good wine just slightly disjointed. Dark fruit, some cola, some tannins, cab like. Very possible that it just needed more air time to open up. Nothing really off. $81 w/tax, shipping.

Drank with an hour decant. Showed a hint of bricking. Very good, but not exceptional. More restrained than other KB's. Beautiful nose, palate dominated by savory notes and earth/funk as opposed to cherry/strawberry. Nicely balanced, good acidity, well integrated alcohol.

My style preference has changed since I purchased these KB's, but this was still a good pinot. Entering a steady drinking state and chosen as best from a blind flight of 4 pinots by 3/4 tasters. Nose of red cherry, some of the typical KB cola, and a slight sweetness. Probably my favorite of the 2006 SVD's, but I chalk that up to timing of consumption as much as anything.

A bit lighter in color than many CA Pinots I have had. True garnet, with a clear ruby hue. Unremarkable nose, apart from a little fresh cranberry. Light to medium bodied. Never over-oaked. Palate exhibits great purity & depth of fruit, which is never over-blown. Some spicy flavors emerge early, along with some tangy acidity through the mid-palate. That said, the finish IS remarkable. Perhaps unlike any other bottle of CA Pinot I've ever tasted, the back of this vino blossoms into a grogeous crescendo of spice, tannin, oak & fruit. Nothing overstated to call it Explosive...Beautifully balanced wine. [14.9% abv.; $87.50].

Needed 1+ hours of air to reveal a nice creamy nose of red fruit leading to a velvety mouth of red fruit. Nice intensity of fruit for an '06. Best '06 I've had, as the only '06 I have not had is the 4B which I will enjoy in the next few months.

Opens with that classic beautiful KB nose, full of perfumed fruit. The palate wasn't as full and rich as previous vintages, but that certainly isn't a bad thing. It showed the progression of the winery towards a more refined style while still being true to it's foundation of being a 'tasty beverage.' Great.

This wine was a 10. Drank with about an hour of air time. Lush nose with long finish. This wine was very versatile. It went well with our dinner of duck confit and Loch Duart Salmon at Nick's on Main. For dessert, we had diced strawberries with aged balsamic vinegar and blue cheese. It paired nicely with the blue cheese as well.

Decanted for one hour before service. In the glass, clear, dark ruby red. On the nose, nutmeg, cinnamon, plums, and cherries. On the palate, a smooth mix of dark cherries, spice, and a touch of minerality, followed by a medium finish, with a mild touch of tannins and a very slight alcoholic note. A couple more years in the cellar won't hurt, but this isn't all that far off from its peak.

14.9% alcohol. Dark cherry color. Expressive, big nose of black cherry, blackberry, cherry pie, vanilla, and baking spice. In the mouth, plush and rich, with overt dark Pinot fruit leading the way, backed up by a plush, earthy spice note, enough acidity to keep focus, and a long, smooth finish marred only by a touch of heat at the back end. Hedonistic and fun for sure. A-

Popped and poured tonight with sushi of all things at Tsukasa…just because we can! We were craving a big, fruit forward pinot noir tonight, and we have a ton of the ’06 Kosta Browne’s in the cellar, so why not as I am trying to drink through the entire lineup by the end of the year, just to say we have had one of each. Typical gorgeous redish/ruby color in the glass, and a typical Kosta Browne nose. For whatever reason, this wine seemed a to have a bit more of the floral aromatics than some of the other vineyards from Kosta Browne. Tons of great strawberry and raspberry, on the nose, with of course some black cherry and cherry cola as well. The floral notes came in as well, with some hints of rose petal and lavender. Who doesn't like the nose on these wines? On the palate, to me, this wine still seems young. Call me crazy, but I think this wine is still going to get better. More cherry and cola on the palate, with a nice berry medley as well. There is definitely some alcohol here that still needs to integrate, but it is not overpowering in the least. I'd give it another year or so, and it will integrate nicely. Nice spice though, with some hints of cinnamon and tea. The shining star however on the palate is the cherry, and that is not a bad thing in the least. Nice pleasant finish, but again, the alcohol just needs a bit of time to integrate. Even so, this was delicious with all kinds of fruit oozing from everywhere. Gotta love fruit from Kanzler! 92 points!

I always struggle with what to say about these. Kanzler is a great vineyard for KB, about the only one I can tolerate any longer. Yes, it has cola, spice, dark berries, blah, blah, blah...I think the only thing that saves these from the fate of the other KB offerings is a bit of acidity seems to always exist to make these Kanzlers more than a one hit wonder. 2006 is not a good year for KB, and while this is better than others, it is no exception. It is a gawky wine, unsure of what it wants to be or become. Taste is okay, just everything does not seem in balance. It is awkward, and bigger than its bones can support.

Stellar. I wish this stuff never ran out. bright cherries, mineral and cola on the nose. It was so balanced, lively, and just delicous. Layers of cherry, cranberry and (for me) just the right touch of earth and mineral. Those accents just made it dance.

Hmmmm... did not find the joy I found in this wine last year. The goopy over-ripe mid palate really stood out this time. Still good for a glass and fairly pure but not much balance. Is the fruit starts to relent, the oak is becoming more dominating. A tremendous big pinot but it really needs to be at the right place at the right time.

A little bit harsh tonight. Seemed to come off kinda big and edgy. There's lots of great elements in this wine but at the moment they are a little bit discombobulated. Time in the glass did help and eventually it started to shake down into your typical KB wine. I suspect this one needs some time to come around but there is a lot of potential, which is what my score is based on.

PnP. Deep garnet. Strawberry/cherry and great bouquet of spices on leather. Honeyed fruit on palate entry that carries rich layering fruit, but lacks finesse or any real tensioning mineral/acid. Pretty sure that this will last a few years, but not get much better.

The wine looks Garnet colored. The legs are Fast. It smells like Red Currant, and Forest floor. It tastes like Raspberry, Red Currant, Cherry, and Forest floor. The body is Light/Medium. The wine is textured Juicy. The wine finishes Medium.
I have an affinity for the KB '06s and this one is no different. They are still fuller bodied, beautifully rich and with great straw- and raspberry fruit across the pallet as other vintages. But what I love about the 06s is that they have finesse. This sometimes missing from these full bore wines. Can't say I favor Kanzler KB over other ones this vintage, rather all their Sonoma releases in '06 share many of the same similar, fantastic qualities.

Excellent. Luscious nose of wild berries, clove, cinnamon, and flowers. Palate continues the wild berry / red fruit theme, with juicy raspberry showing through, complimented by a note of baking spices. Well balanced. Not hot at all. Almost delicate (relatively speaking, for a KB).

A winner for sure. Excellent nose, powerful berry fragrance, followed by a wine that was well integrated with a great finish. Not a bombshell of a pinot noir, but a very solid wine.

I think this is still too young. Decent showing, but some tannic grip that suggests the wine will improve with more bottle age. Very powerful nose also suggests this has the stuffing and weight to go many more years.

New Year's Eve at Monterey Bay with Vinnie, Patty, Rick, Leslie and Carol. Purchased from wine list after we finished a bottle of 05 Sea Smoke Southing that I brought. Bigger and bolder than the Sea Smoke, but not as complex, with lots of cherry, raspberry and other red fruit. Nice balance with a smooth, lingering finish.

Drank it over three days and the wine improved each day. It is a full throtle pinot with big red fruit flavors that are focused. There are some notes of flowers and spices which get overshadowed by fruit. This will definitely improve with some age.

Very primary and focused wine with great intensity. This should loosen up in the next couple of years gaining more complexity and elegance. Currently the layers of flowers, minerals, dark berries and, dare I say, licorice are bound very tightly together There is good length here. It's a bit hot, so serve cool.

Dark red. Quite an intense nose. Lots going on. Picking of aromas of cherry, leather, and spices. There's an underlying darkness to the aromas that make me think Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The palate has moderate acidity with smooth fine grained tannins. Finishes a little gritty with some spicy alcohol. On the second day the alcohol on the finish is toned down. Overall it's a big ripe CA Pinot that offers up some interesting flavors and shows good complexity. I'm not sure how this will age but it should be good for at least another 3 to 5 years.

Had at Michaels On Naples with the AIR boys. I thought this was drinking very well. Full aromatics and full flavor. Everyone at the table loved this. Nice way to start the night off. The massive dark fruit was nicely in balance. Just enough red berries and acidity to keep it far from sloppy land. Long finish and although we didn't spend a lot of time with this wine, I didn't notice any heat or overt alcohol. This was drained very fast. This is a perfect one glass wine for my palate. I will probably open another bottle fairly soon.

yep this is really good. som at campanile picked out of a few when i told him we wanted to experience the big fruit joy that is a KB again. this did not disappoint. id say this one is a little more oaky and buttery than previous ones ive had that were a little more tart. that said the mouthfeel on this just needs to be tried to be believed and the fruit is exceptionally fresh and rich. lovely stuff, again.

Mid-palate too forceful, too sharp, even after a few hours of air. Flavor profile is black cherry, raspberry, chocolate, mocha and then dried cherry. Hints of creamy texture to come and even though they're a little unproportioned, the flavors surround your mouth in a great way. Will be a lot better in 6 months.

Tasted at the 2nd Annual Freeman Caves Dinner for VinoCellar.com - (Sonoma area, California). No rating as these have only been in bottle two weeks (bottled late Jan 08). Dark clear ruby color with big oak, spice and a candied note. Remarkably smooth for just being bottled and with very little perceptible heat on the finish. Less heat in these wines is a positive for the development of the wine IMHO. A bruiser like the Kanzlers have been in the past.

Decanted for over an hour, it opened up very nicely. It is definitely a food wine, not to be confused with a patio pinot.

Alcohol 14.9%. Popped and poured. Dark ruby color. Red fruit on the nose, some spice and vanilla with a medium finish. Overall, one dimensional with dominating alcohol. Overpriced for what it is.

Better on Day 2. Some cola, black licorice and sour cherry with a bit of heat on the finish. Very Good.

This is head and shoulders above their appellation Pinots. Pretty good acid and great richness. There's nothing subtle about this wine. A little bit of heat at the end. Made to be guzzled.
