Another dinner @ Christiansholm (Klampenborg): Darkblue, tight, young with loads of blackberries here; it is very polished, very Gaja, just a little gemacht, very much a First Class wine seeking to pleasure The Upper Ten ... #Schur

17th Annual Lyon 10 Year Retrospective (The Lyon's Tree House): Apparently my idiosyncratic distaste for Italian acids showed up when I tasted this blind, as I made a "face" that I was unaware of. There's black cherry, cassis, leather, and earth notes of medium depth. Same on day 2. Others liked it more.

A substantial wine that need time to open up. The nose is dark fruit and blackberry with interesting subtle earth tones. ON the palate it eventuial developed a powerful complexity. "What a shame" PDQ93

Tasting of Wines From Gaja Family Estates (The Wine Summit at the Post Hotel in Lake Louise): From a vineyard ( Darmagi ) converted from indigenous varietals to Cabernet Sauvignon in 1978. This wine is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Aged up to 8 months in barriques, followed by 12 months in large oak casks. Extremely dark ruby – full to the rim; attractive thrust of sweet black currant fruit on the nose; supple, easy entry; harmony of the elements; fine depth through the mid-palate; cassis flavours abound – clean and pure; very long satisfying finish where the fruit lasts. Found this wine very attractive.

Gaija Gaja led us through this amazing technical tasting at the Post Hotel Wine Summit in Lake Louise Alberta Canada. The beautiful daughter of Angelo was captivating, entertaining, and educational as she walked us thought the family history, vineyard history, and personal knowledge of 9 spectacular bottles of wine. The 2003 Darmagi, was a pleasant way to wrap up and incredible technical tasting. It was a dark purple in the glass and just sticky enough to hold the sides well. That viciousness did not reside in the mouth as it was too jammy. This had many Bordeaux stylings with cassis, oak, fireplace smoke aromas. It seemed a bit harsh but that could be its youth. I actually enjoyed this and made a note to get one case. It was an amazing tasting and Gaija Gaja did a marvelous of job of keeping all in the palm of her hand.
