The 2001 was opened on New Year’s Day with some of the family members going on the Italy trip in May.
The wine was in good shape but clearly at the twilight of its useful life.
Opened up for 20 minutes and then to the glass to begin a joyous Sunday wine drive.
Beautiful subdued floral nose of lavender and overturned dry hillside earth warmed by the afternoon sun.
Now a soft almost feminine mouthfeel with resolved tannins. Truly elegant with a soft integrated initial dry ripe black cherry that settles in to a worn leather saddle and aged rich earth.
Reallly enjoyed the wine and paired nicely with leftover prime rib. Sautéed Brussels sprouts with diced ham, onions, garlic, and white wine. Boiled finger potatoes sautéed in butter with onions, carrots, and ginger beer.
Great memory to start the year.

First of the 6 Brunellos I brought to our wine group tasting. 3 hour slo-o. Enticing bouquet with lovely balance and focus on a soft an elegant palate. Drinking at its peak now. I would think the wine has a few more peak years, but not more than that.

Big improvement over previous bottle. 2 hour slo-o. Open and ready for business. Earthy and fruity bouquet with depth, focus and complexity. Finishes with length and elegance.

Opened an hour before dinner and then decanted. The wine is beautiful but still young. Did not come fully into balance during dinner. Either decant for 3 hours or wait a few year, but its a beautiful wine. meanwhile, i will drink the 99

From a magnum. Still somewhat primary. A vigorous mouthfeel of a succulent red fruit framed by residual tannins, finishing off with just a hint of bitter coffee flavors. All the markings of a traditional Brunello. Would benefit from more cellaring.

Jesús Barquín brings Equipo Navazos to Queens (Fernando's House): Deep ruby color. Interesting nose of cooked grain (bulgur wheat?), black fruit, complex sweet spices and a touch of prosciutto. Beautifully integrated on the palate. Still a youthful wine but delicious.

Two hours after pop and this settled in as a middle age mature terrior expression. Very nice showing stacked against more expensive wines.

Nice traditionally made Brunello, but still a bit tight with harsh tannins at the back end. I would give this a bit more time in the cellar.

At l'Atelier with Leticia and Antonio. Smoother and silkier than the 1995 we had had previously. Herbs and some oak, medium body and finish.

At one 1 hour too closed, at two hours starting to show nicely, blossoming at 3. A very nice vintage but I would try again in 2 to 4 year.
Hard to judge, but will be in the 91-94 range. i really like these wines, especially with food
