Jersey Boys (Grand Sichuan, Jersey City, NJ): Beautiful nose that is classic Chevillon. Cherry, slutty, a bit gutty, sweet spices, sweet, marzipan. Palate shows cherry and spices but also meaty and earthy. Lots of structure. Finish is really structured with dusty tannins. Wine is really growing with time and the palate and finish are just killer. Tons of sweet cherries and spice. Gutty. Dusty tannins but such grip and depth. This just kept getting better and better. Wow. Nose - 5-5.5/6, Palate - 5.5-6/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17.5-18.5/20.

Grand Sichuan, Jersey City edition (Grand Sichuan, Grove St.): Just a stunning bottle of Burgundy - a hauntingly complex and beautiful fragrance, a palate that's so graceful and polished with fine grained tannin beneath, and somehow it keeps getting better and better with air. There's no sense trying to describe the various flavour components, because this is so much more than the sum of all the various flavours - I'll just say it seems to show equal parts fruit, earth, and more savoury developed tertiary notes, with everything coming together into a seamless whole.

Medium to full body. This currently has the beautiful profile of an aged burgundy with heavy dark fruit and deep secondary and emerging tertiary fruit. What’s crazy is that about 35% of the way through the mid palate a giant tannic spine kicks in, leaving a heavy drying sensation for minutes. This needs at least 2-3 years of fiether aging for the tannin to mellow and integrate. In the meanwhile, the first 50pct of the experience is great! I really hope the back half catches up.

{bought on release #5 of 6, perfect fill, cork fully sound and easily pulled; had with JL and in-laws} Lovely, lovely savory wine, still a few unresolved tannins rattling about, just excellent LSG. "Iron-minerality" for sure in the flavor set, lots of depth and length. If you have well-stored bottles (or better, mags) this will go for another 5 years at least, but doubt much if any upside. Easy to see why this site has been proposed for Grand Cru elevation given its showing tonight in a so-so vintage.
My view is that this is not a wine for PopNPour and a fast/superficial taste. Open your bottle, savor it with food over hours, reap the harvest of having cellared the wine for all this time as the layers and complexity unfold. Much better than a bottle of the Vaucrains recently opened that was flawed with brett.

Light ruby. Mostly wet earth followed by black and blue fruit scents. Medium weight, lowish acidity, soil, and subdued fruit. Good but relatively undistinguished for Les St. Georges. It could go on, but I don't see a lot of upside here.

{#4 of 6 bought on release; sound cork removed with Durand} Rigorous, regal, still tough - not quite teeth-clenching, but needs hours to fully open still. The quality of the fruit and the completeness of the package are Grand Cru quality. Most of bottle consumed when opened and fruit both softer and more approachable after 20 hours. Wonderful but recommend you open the bottle in the morning if you want to enjoy it maximally over dinner right now!

{#3 of 6 bottles bought on release, perfect fill} Brambly, gnarly NSG fruit with the aromatics and elegance of Les St. Georges. Faded red color with some bricking on edge, very good showing. Held up well over 4 hours. Can hold but I will drink mine up in next several years.

Lunch with Gerald and Praelum folks (Famous Treasure @ Capitol Piazza): Medium ruby, with slight fading edges. Pink floral and cranberry aromas, as well as some green fern. Rounded tannins, with a body that was rather substantial for Pinot Noir, and some good cranberry and blackberry fruit intensity, as well as rocket leaves and cloves. Still very fresh even after more than a decade. Nice!

Bottle from secondary market -med dark red, mild bricking -a bit of funk -faded fruit but awkward roasted a bit oxidized and EtOH prominent -this is clearly a faulty bottle, no way Chevillon whiffed on LSG in this good vintage

my note of October 2018 said it well: "very very nice, a little foursquare on night one but on day two it had nice blue fruit with xmas spices and great / textured mouthfeel, nice acidity to provide lift and elegance... very very nice on night two... found Kriz note (just prior to mine) interesting as I think this has a long life (10 years more?)..."

Chevillon Survey (Brasserie Margeuax): Much better than a weird 06 Roncieres served side-by-side. Aromas of fat and rich black cherry fruit with plenty of spice, potpourri musk and toasted herbs to add interest. The palate is rich and chewy. Cleary young with plenty of fruit and stuffing. In proportion and good now, but better with time.

HDH auction at Spiaggia; 6/20/2019-6/22/2019 (Chicago, IL): Large-scaled, with some of the classic 2006 beetroot aromas. Surprisingly red-frutied, but this is a heavier, big wine too. I'm not fully convinced about the complexity here -- it's there, but this is a little dilute on the palate as well. Hard to make heads or tails of, to be honest.

Not in a great place right now. Tight with the structure overriding the fruit. There is a lot going on underneath, and this is well made with good balance. Secondary notes of tar and herb are nice, the fruit is nice, the whole thing is sitting under a bit if a tannic weight. I am hoping that more time will make this a bit more friendly.

The style I love. Sweet fruity nose with a hint of iron which you can't call minerality because it is'nt a mineral. Good palate nice sharpness and fruit. Enough tannins and power left to let it live for some more years but it has nice grippy tannins now. A little sharp alcohol which makes your cheeks tingle but in a nice way. Don't decant! It becomes more mature quickly and less pleasant. The rosehips take over then.

Another Saturday at Chevalier...Mostly Blind (Chicago, IL): Tasted double blind. Thought this from NSG, but slightly older. Meaty and still tannic with very good length. Firm and backward, making it come across as somewhat foursquare. Needs more cellar time.

Purple/Red brick color. Nose of mushroom and forest floor;Sous Bois. Raspberry, strawberry fruit underly lovely flavors of mushroom, truffle, and a touch of tobacco. Tannins have resolved. A muted acidity remains. Nicely balanced. Classic Burgundy. In it's drinking window. Has at least another 3-5 years before significant decline. Decant for light sediment.

{Bottles 1 and 2 of 6 bought on release, PopNPour, 1 corked, other sound, perfect fills} Brief note - fine, regal nose of dark brambly fruit, took 60-90 minutes to open in glass, good length, very Les St Georges flavor set. This will continue to improve for at least 5 years.

Served blind. We are clearly in Burgundy. Nose is full and bright with strawberry, florals, some light toast and a big herb/earth undercurrent. Palate is lighter bodied with reed cherry, good vervy acid and some tannic bite. Feels a little closed in and tight at the moment. Probably 1-2 points of upside as this matures.

One hour decant. Dark fruits and a bit of tar on the nose, dark cherry and forest and a bit of spice on the palate. Full red, clean finish, tannins integrated. A very nice wine with food or on its own with a book. Classy now, and almost too easy to drink as it disappeared sooner than hoped. Should have many years ahead.

Showed surprisingly well right out of the gate but really clamped down after a couple hours. This has such poise and class. It's NSG, but well-mannered. There's good concentration here, but the wine remains lithe - a mix of slightly singed red & black fruit with undertones of earth and spice. The finish is a touch clipped, but nevertheless this should improve. You hardly realize you're reaching for another glass...

Checking in, decanted two hours, drunk over next three. Still tight. Very structured with great balance. With time, emerging cherry notes on the nose and palate, with tar and leather and spice. Deep red, very full, and great length. If the parts all come together, this might well be outstanding in five years or so. I think they will. My wife dissents, says what is in the glass is not worth the price. Thankfully, while she has a great palate, she frequently misses on young burgundy.

Opened and poured, this wine showed aromatics of cherry, spice and forest floor that are enhanced by subtle floral notes. The bouquet is well defined, balanced and nuanced. The color is a medium ruby and appropriate for the wines age. The medium bodied palate shows concentration and depth but lacks the completeness that would makes this a more compelling wine. This is showing the best of the '06 Chevillon line-up tasted; however, the palate lacks the harmony, nuance and balance that would make this an extraordinary wine. This does have the potential to improve with a few years of bottle age.

Doesn't change a whole lot of several hours, but it needs the time anyway, since at first the tannin is just a little abrupt and edgy but with time it develops bona fide silky finesse. Other than that it's a pretty anonymous showing, pretty sappy red pinot fruit with a friendly sweetness and a touch of oak.
