Consumed over two days. This is past its prime but delicious, still.
First day, this wine took about an hour to open up. Dark, dark chocolate covered cherries, pepper, moderate tannins. No real evidence of the 15.7% -OH.
Second day, this wine was modestly delicious. Excellent body & mouthfeel, a sip felt weighty & substantial. Finished with a PC burger, the weight, tannins, licorice and tar met up nicely.

Holding up exceptionnally well! What a pleasure and delight. I feel Gold Mine Ranch had a potential a slight notch below Montafi, Papera and Carlisle Vineyard, but this fully resolved, complete Zinfandel was almost up there

Sadly, I think this is the last of my Carlisle 2006 vintage Zins. Certainly going out on a high note. 15.7% ABV. Translucent dark garnet in the glass. Rather soaring aromatics of red raspberry/Zinberry and baking spices (clove, mostly to my sniffer). Bright red berry fruit on the palate with great length. Ripe certainly but rather light on its feet. Very compelling.

Had this with Morelli's Spicy Dark chocolate ice cream. WOW! The pairing was nuts, it had a hint of spice but a lot of flavors that the ice cream allowed to show through. Milk chocolate would have been tough but the Dark Chocolate was outstanding with it.

Translucent dark garnet in the glass. Complex nose of dry earth, pepper, and slate. Medium-full bodied with black fruit and a slate (chalk) note similar to the nose. Cool toned black fruit. More complex on the nose than the palate. This may have some room to open up further.

Garnet color in the glass, slightly dusty looking. Nose of smoke, black berries and black cherries. Flavors of black berries, black cherries and a bit of raspberry. Medium acidity, medium tannins, full bodied. Drink or hold.

On Sunday I drank about half this bottle through a 2 hour decant, then returned it to bottle and vacu-vinned it. No wine consumed Monday. Here on Tuesday, it is just freaking delicious. I noted more black fruit and chocolate in addition to the red fruit ganache qualities noted 3/09. Nice grippy but not tannic or gritty finish, fruit lush and strong. Should continue to improve for 1-2 years at least. No heat for me. Day 1 samples certainly not bad but not at this level. Insanely awesome finish in its depth and length, centered on its bramble fruit and plum core. Wow that's good Zinfandel. Yes I finished the bottle. &$#k yeah.

I usually pop and pour Carlisle, and here the first evening it seemed a little disjointed and off -- even thought I might have a bad bottle or a storage issue. After two days, however, this was really singing, a classic Carlisle Zin and very enjoyable.

Raspberry, blackberry jam, woody underbrush and a please dark chocolate. Full bodied but good energy through the strong finish. Seems to be open for business. Straight forward but very enjoyable.

While this wine is pretty straight forward on the fruit front Greenblanket doesn't think it's fair to rip it as simple. Rather, Greenblanket sees this wine as a high octane Beaujolais with pure, pretty fruit accented by an underlying complexity of herb and spice and earth.

Decent enough Carlisle Zin. Not really better than say the Sonoma Coast though imo. I found this one pretty nice on the front palate but lacking with a somewhat grapey, simple finish. Still a nice wine, but as the svd's start to reach the mid 30's in price now Im going to find myself going to the appellation wines more often now I think.

Brambly nose, slightly overripe but not off putting. Not as complex as the Mike other zins. Hard to remember specifics on this wine, since it was at the end of the night after a long list of drinks. Still a tasty wine.

Looking for something tonight, went for the old stand by. To be honest, this is probably my least favorite Carlisle to date. While it was pleasurable, it was jammy and one dimensional. plenty of pepper and spice with some black cherry and dried herbs. Just very simple and plain, not the "wow" I normally associate with Carlisle.

Ack! I thought this was just a DCV when I popped it, not the Gold Mine Ranch SVD. Yesterday it was huge and chunky and screaming "why? why did you open me??" I tried to sneak in a half glass this afternoon and it has settled into being a classically awesome Carlisle Zin. Bright yet rich raspberry and cherry with vanilla and underbrush on the nose. Red fruits explode on the palate along with black cherry and a glorious melange of pepper, spice, smoke, and herbs adding complexity on the back half. Ohh, this is going to be more than a half glass. Hold this one to three years. Yummy yummy goodness.

On the lighter side, but still quite juicy. No signs of falling apart

Much deeper and richer than the bottle we enjoyed last winter. But the bigger fruit is still underlain by a lovely herbal and mineral base.

Yummy and good, and a touch hot. Very nice bottle of wine that just misses on the heat and light on complexity. Still good value.
