vermillion slightly bricking. Medium bodied but light on its feet. Initial pop and pour shows balanced but not showy fruit, with notes of spice, sarsaparilla, mushroom earth, with smooth and subdued tannins. It fades to some acid, and to a rather long, 45 second+ finish. Very elegant and definitely ready to drink. Interesting example of the Westside Neighbors bottling, which is quite robust when young, but reveals fine balance as it ages.

Medium weight, fragrant, still lively with higher toned red fruits and flowers. Not a savory dark fruit & earthy but with enough "stuff" to suggest in its youth it might have been more so. Very nice.

Light red in color. 14.2% ABV. Amazing nose of red and black fruits, cloves, baking spices and sarsaparilla. Light to medium body with just enough acidity. Pretty and elegant. Black cherry, strawberry, cranberry, earth and minerals on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. The bright fruit I expect seems to be fading ever so slightly. Best over the next year or so.

Warm and high toned nose of nose of rose petals and nutmeg
On the palate, rich and sweet red fruit without being heavy or dense. Acid backbone carries the flavor through the long finish. A touch of warmth on the end. Seems very true to the house style under Bob Cabral and a nice example.

This was the most unusual Selyem I've had over the 25 years I've been drinking them. Opened at 12 noon, very tight nose, tart fruit on palate. Not the usual selyem perfume. At 7pm finally started to smooth out and the tartness was gone. Nice selyem perfume of strawberry cola started coming thru. Still very young. I keep these at 53 degrees, I think I'll wait another 10 on others from this vineyard. I have had 20 year old Selyem's that have blown me away. The westside style may need time. I will also skip buying westside, different style than I expect for from Selyem.

This a delicate, very elegant pinot noir. Stylistically, it's not going to offend anyone, but probably not wow anyone either. At this price point, I don't mind if the pinot makes a statement and is slightly controversial. The nose and palate are filled with bright red bruits fruits but is not hugely complex. Very soft and silky mouthfeel. It's clearly showing some age, but has not developed any secondary, more earthy qualities. It does have sufficient acidity consistent with the W-S style. I have to say though, that this was a delicious food pairing with a pan-seared roasted salmon.

Nice notes of cherry, strawberry. Fruit is present but restrained. Slightly lacking in brightness that would probably push the score up another couple of points, but overall a very good pinot. To me it expresses the area's terroir quite well.

Consistent with what others have said - wonderful nose of cherry, vanilla, cola. Ripe red fruits in the thin palate leading to a short slightly acidic finish. A good wine, but relative to the price and previous Williams Selyem offerings, was underwhelmed by this one.

Typical(ly great) Williams Selyem pinot. Mid- to strong-bodied (for a pinot), pleasant fruit and earth balance with some cranberry notes, a hint of smoke and just a touch of spice with a pleasant, albeit not super long finish. Drinking very well right now. Even better after a brief decanting.

Bright and floral, cherry and raspberry fruit. A little thin on the palate, but all the over-the-top CA Pinots may have shifted my scale. Good acidity makes it a pretty good food wine: the lightness was good with our leftover turkey.
3/26/13 Same general impression as last time, but it did rock out the Cornish game hens we had for dinner. Probably deserves a higher score as a food wine.

This light weight tasty RRV drink is probably at peak. Fragrant and floral on the nose, "chocolate covered cherries" and oak. On the palate it's much lighter, but balanced and lively. As noted by some, finish is a bit astringent and short.
Recent reviews have been over the top, but then these guys have always had a bit of a cult following, and if you are part of the "in crowd" you have an image and reputation to protect! It's pretty good, but no where near as nice as recent reviewers would have you believe.

Good PN, but just not my thing. A big and bright nose of candied raspberry, sugared strawberry and more sweet red fruit. Palate is medium bodied and bright but there seems to be a lack of complexity. Maybe I'm a Burgundy guy? Good, but just that.

Bouquet of strawberries and red fruits, earth. Flavors of bright strawberries and red fruits, earth. Silky, elegant. Balanced acidity and medium tannins hold it all together. Slow-O 1 hr, enjoyed over the following 3 hours. Medium+ garnet core, no real sign of age. Attractive aromas of fresh-baked bread, bright red and black berries, a hint of cola, with wood and herb notes rounding it out. The nose gains complexity with airtime, but make no mistake, it comes out swinging and keeps your attention from the get go. The palate, too, is complex, very complete. Medium+ bodied, with grippy, very fine tannins and bright acidity that manages the heft of the wine quite well. Fresh, lively and seductive - a very complete PN and one of the better WS's I've had in some time. Really showing on point at the moment. Drink thru 2014, 14,2% abv, score: A-, recommended

A Celebration Amongst Friends (Portland, Oregon): Darker color. Medium toned red fruit nose, roses, flowers, baking spices, mom's cookie dough. Palate was big, mouth-coating and had a bit of viscosity. Mild acidity (for a Selyem) Medium red cherries, wavy touch of tolerable candied elements, some cola/brown sugar, very light grippy tannin. Beautiful balance. 60 second finish. Excellent. This is in a sweet spot and will probably evolve favorably for a few years, but its great now.

Tasted 9/4/2011. Great wine. Dense nose of cherry and other berry flavor. Concentrated cherry fruit and some oak flavor, strong but not harsh backbone, dark color. Probably could cellar for a good deal longer and get better, but drinking well now. This is a dense and well structured wine, good Pinot for grilled steak. I would rate 92 now, might go higher.

Deeper purple than most Pinot, fantastic spicy nose with a generous touch of red fruit and flowers. Red fruit and plentiful baking spices in a well developed and pleasing sequence of complex flavors. The finish lingers as long as any Pinot I can remember. Wish I had more, 92 or better.

Poured off a glass and let sit for an hour. Started off a bit astrigent. Then, it just filled out and became very rich and fruity without being heavy. It closed up a tad after 3 hour; lost a bit of the fruity. Excellent wine. Better than I was expecting.

Has lost much of its appealing silky red fruit, but still has long flavors of rose and black cherry. Curious about tomorrow. Update: has gained a touch of sweetness with air, which makes the medium-long and structured finish more enjoyable than yesterday because it is stretching out a set of flavors more worth lingering over. The nose is loosening up, but tighter than upon release, and the whole wine showing more earth. The comparatively grippy texture suggests this is in dumb/closed place. Continued sipping on day 2 is revealing more of its original complexity, with some plum off the top showing some of its original ripeness, too. For my palate, I think I would prefer this wine younger or older than it is now. Right now we are lacking the original polish and fruit awesomeness with only having gained a preview of maturity.

dark cherry and earth nose; round/lush and big dark cherry, spice; some stem/earth and oak but the fruit is what you notice; pushes ripeness but not over the top; the fruit was so that it almost seemed flabby, but as the fruit faded, a fine acidity adds to the length. Interesting and complex, tho a bit heavier than the style i enjoy

Bright cherry and floral aromas greet you quickly. Cherry, raspberry, with a fairly heavy dose of cherry cough syrup on the palate. Finishes better than it starts, with some rich textured earthiness to it. A little overly acidic and thin/light bodied like all the 2006 Williams-Selyem wines have seemed to me. A little disappointing.

Last bottle of this from a vintage that may end up surprising those of us who have thought it wouldn't be for longer term aging. This was lovely; definitely the best bottle of the 3. Classic RRV texture, having put on considerable weight in the last 6 months - lovely nose of red fruits and spice. Very much a classic W-S wine and will go for a while.

What a great bottle of pinot and probably the better 06 that I have tasted. Nose is very delicate with soft notes of sweet fruit, white pepper, mild toasty oak and glycerin. Palate is extremely balanced, not too sweet but just in the perfect spot. Nice structure with a good backbone that was not overpowering but in harmony with all of this wines components. Beautiful bottle of pinot that packed a punch, but was extremely graceful.

100% Pinot Noir 14.2% Dark and rich in color, this wine offers a bouquet of wild blackberries, cola, plums, fennel, rose petal, butterscotch and toasty oak which immediately fills your senses. Ripe, full-bodied tannins accentuate layers of flavors of blackberry jam, cassis, cherry cola, plums, crème brulee and black truffles. A wonderfully textured wine with great acid balance that will give this youthful wine life for many years.

Light red, creamy/opaque color. Some sediment in bottle. Decanted 2 hours, and never really showed much. Drinks well, but not very interesting. Fruit fades quickly on the palate, tangy finish.

dark cherry and earth nose; round/lush and big dark cherry, spice; some stem/earth and oak but the fruit is what you notice; pushes ripeness but not over the top; the fruit was so that it almost seemed flabby, but as the fruit faded, a fine acidity adds to the length. Interesting and complex, tho a bit heavier than the style i enjoy

Improved over my prior tasting a little over a year ago. Still heavy on cherry and raspberry flavors, a bit acidic, but not quite as medicinal.

Great wine, one of the better pinots I've had this year. Light in color and delicate on the palate, this wine has a long, long finish. I'm going to hold my last two for a while to see what happens, but I have even higher hopes for this wine.

Bright fruit with some spice and cola on the nose, along with a whiff of alcohol. Strawberries and cola on the palate. LONG finish. Drinking very nicely right now, but will last several years yet.

Opened up nicely over a two hour dinner. Heavy on the spice and cola with hint of dark cherry and oak. Lasting finish.

Very nice Pinot blend. Interesting contrast to the single-vineyard W-S wines we've been drinking lately. Fuller, sturdier body. Less finesse and subtlety in the fruit, though still quite elegant.

A little disappointing.

nice floral nose; good dark cherry and enough earth and tannins to make this very good on nite one; softens considerably by day 2 and seemed more generic

Last bottle of this from a vintage that may end up surprising those of us who have thought
it wouldn't be for longer term aging. This was lovely; definitely the best bottle of the 3.
Classic RRV texture, having put on considerable weight in the last 6 months - lovely nose
of red fruits and spice. Very much a classic W-S wine and will go for a while.

Another elegant W-S Pinot! Cherry, baking spice, a bit of earth, and a nice clean tannic structure. Excellent job!

Popped and poured. Initially a bit of sour cherry on the nose. ON the palate quite light, especially in texture,
more Anderson Valley than Russian River. Very open and forward; not for long term aging.

I am not sure if it is worth the price, but this is a beautiful pinot. It will be fun to see how it evolves over time.

Dark and rich in color, this wine offers a bouquet of wild blackberries, cola, plums, fennel, rose petal, butterscotch and toasty oak which immediately fills your senses. Ripe, full-bodied tannins accentuate layers of flavors of blackberry jam, cassis, cherry cola, plums, crème brulee and black truffles. A wonderfully textured wine with great acid balance that will give this youthful wine life for many years.

I reviewed this on my website in May, but I have to reiterate - Fabulous wine with a seductive, silken mouthfeel. Took a lot of self-control to not grab the bottle and chug it right down all by myself.

Cherry cough syrup nose. Medium-bodied with a good cut of bright, spicy cherry fruit. Lovely pinot that's ready to go.

Nice dark red, just slightly seethrough. Very pure pinot nose of red berries and hints of herbal and smoky notes. Round and very pure in mouth. Very seducing and classy.

No notes taken during consumption but the professional reviews ring true. An excellent bottle, just a classic RRV Pinot quite comparable to the 05 WS Westside Road that I had a few weeks ago.
