Sadly our last bottle. Still looking young with no brown edges. Lovely mature wine that has finally come together with no trace of bret which dominated most of our previous 5 bottles.

decanted 45 min, good amount of sediment glued to the length of the bottle; med. red, moving to clear terra cotta edge; beefy & roasted black plum, tobacco smoke & belt leather, red bell pepper, garrigue; full-bodied, tho balanced palate weight; carne crudo, herbal & smokey, wild red bramble fruit, good acids, tannins resolved.
first one in 5+ years, mature but if well-stored, not done yet. the mourvedre & syrah dominate currently, ok by me
Iconic name. An average + vintage in Languedoc. I like it for its balance, for its tension/acidity still present, for the mix of black fruit jam, plum and blond tobacco flavour..but.. i have to admit that this wine has certainly passed its peak : you can notice it as the hue is garnet, slightly brownish with a clear rim of 2mm, and the taste goes clearly towards tertiary notes of smoked plum, once drunk the next day of opening. "My" drinking window up to 2025 seems to be a max. Very nice wine anyway with a persistent length

A bit under performing our last few tastings and could be a lot down to the fact that we had this outside so less of a scope for it to show its finer side. Decanted for a good 30 mins too. More on the fruit and less on the smoky side, honey feel and of course herby. Solid 91 for sure but a far cry from the 93 we rated this about a year ago. Not sure if its the bottle or the location of consumption.

+ Colour : clearly the age is visible, slight brownish at the rim + Nose : believe heavenly is the best word to describe it. Abundance of red fruits, spicy herbs, some leather, tobacco leaves. It does already show some tertiary notes, fine woody flavour, crushed mint leaves, grain mustard, and a pinch of course sea salt. + Taste : nicely rounded, balanced, lots of flint and minerals, very juice, more dried fruits here. Nicely acidity, very fine tannins still there. + Finish : actually it bit of both worlds ( nose and taste ), it does linger in your mouth for quite some time.
All in all, it did live very much up to my expectation and it reputation, probably once in a life time taste of this bottle. Seeing the tertiary in my notes, would say to rather drink this vintage quickly if you still have it laying around.

this wine has been a winner, bid last minute on a case in HK, $50 a bottle was a steal... I like the mostly Mourvèdre with some Grenache and Syrah mix... and this has good structure / acidity as well... it is on the full bodied side but with enough interesting components (lots of barnyard alongside sweet purple fruit) to be really enjoyable... I find friends like it even if they've never / rarely had Mourvèdre before... one more bottle left and should probably drink in the next year or two

Saturday night at The Papies ( Eurovision & Fuego dinner) (The Papies, Elizabeth St, London): Opened and left to rest for a good hour but we chose not to decant and risk loosing any of the charming nose . This wine sits at the intersection of a lovely Rhone Syrah with all its smoky, roast meat, spice elements and a riper richer fruit style of wine. Silky , vibrant and very giving and with a beautiful nose. Must buy more wine and an easy 93 again

Decanted for a good 35 minutes and really helped the wine open up. This is a truly beautiful wine now and with lots of capacity to get better still. The nose is very much a rhone syrah wine, smoky, roast meat, light herbs but also had a good density of dark fruits. Similarly on the palate this is silky on the edges, bright and energetic still , medium weight and with lots of substance and length. Very Very good 93+

Opened and served and really requires no decanting. More Grenache in feel with a core of syrah smoky, spicy, roast meat touches. Compared to the 2004 we tried recently (Papies 92 and arguably a touch better than the 2005) is less of a barbaresco feel and more of a lighter Grenache fee. Light sweet core, soft, well made and quite elegant. Maybe a touch more weight would have helped it with balance but definitely a beautiful wine. 92+

once again this was superb, my other notes apply, full bodied with great mourvedre funk on the palate and the nose... barnyard and apricot pits, beautiful lush fruit, nice glycerin mouthfeel, goes down like nectar tho I would describe the non-fruit elements as savory not sweet

drank with Wade on Jep and Andy's first college trip, beautiful wine to have with a spectacular french dinner at Downey's… full bodied but with plenty of acid to balance, as always you can taste the mourvedre on this wine and it gives it a bitter edge to contrast the plentiful red fruit from the cab and syrah, this is one of the best QPR wines in my cellar and always a pleasure, with our without food, two hours plus of air is always beneficial

another great showing for this gem of a wine, on night one it was bright and acidic with rhubarb fruit and pretty/primary (not much of the mourvedre funk), on nights two and three it remained well balanced but became much richer / more med- to full-bodied, and with plenty of fruit but lots of mourvedre funkiness and some rubber ball… great balance on nights two and three and the balance allowed a big delicious wine to be nonetheless "light on its feet"… superb

Rich and savoury. The nose indicates the age, but the taste is brooding with freshness and juicy sweetness, like orange juice. Soft acidity. Big body, full palate, but light and refreshing. On day two more herbal, more dry, with some bitterness of orange zest. Great wine!

very very nice, a little less powerful than my previous bottles, changed considerable over three hours in decanter, great acid with nice reddish fruits and beautiful funk / barnyard on the nose, funky finish at first but fruit came forward as it aired out, but even then it had some secondary character to make this a real treat

Even more exciting than the Trevallon. This shows the best of Cabernet and the south. A bit wild ... A bit spicy, yet buttoned up and satisfying. I am surprised at how open this bottle was. It showed mature notes that I was not expecting. In a good place but will continue to improve for years. (94)

Brown Bag Wine Dinner at Two Chefs - Double Blind (TWO CHEFS, MIAMI, FL): The wine looks violet colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, raspberry, black currant (cassis), garrigue and violet. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity. Mark's wine(me). Brillaint violet bouquet when double decanted in am. However shut down with air. I trhink it is in a dumb period, as was much better 5 years ago.

Superbe. 94+ pts

rarely give a wine this high a rating but this was stunning, it simply had that ethereal quality where the material is at the same time dense and impactful while also being light on its feet, savory flavors with beautiful acidity and just a hint of nice funk to go along… immediately went to find more to buy but alas not available -- others must have had the same experience… drank this while on quail shoot in Georgia, had my last bottle of 2007 when i got home and it was nice but nothing like this
Characteristics of bordeaux and burgundy! Nose of bordeaux briar and cassis, dusty garrique (dried herbs), some burgundian funk and red cherries. Palate of red currants and red cherries, zippy but big. Needs another 5-10 years.

Very nice and sad this is my only one. Very nice nose, stewed fruits and some funk on the nose. definitely get the Mourvedre. Silky smooth in the mouth. 95 pts

Had this in a flight of most other big names in Languedoc (Daumas Gassac, Clos Marie Glorieuse, Leon Barral Faugeres, Saint Jean de Bebian, Estanilles, etc). The Grange de Peres was my favourite. So well defined nose, totally its own at this stage, although I know it will develop more classic northern Rhone tones with age. Today it offers, roses (Nez du vin), coffee, a bit of fur. Lovely sweet attack, good acidity, full bodied with a great finish.

Fabulous wine. Nose from first impression impressed. Notes of deep ripe plummy fruit together with masses of florality, mainly violets. At once my mind went to a top Burgundy, especially at the start when the bouquet was ethereally light, or even a top Cote Rotie. In the glass it was evolving constantly revealing cherry fruit, leather, coffee, chocolate, exotic spices, vegetal aromas, herbal garrigue nuances, red berry fruit... Whatever you name this wine had it.... Its freshness was amazing and aromatic intensity was very high. Of course in no way typical of Languedoc as this wine could pass for a top-of-the-tops northern Rhone wine or as I said initially a Burgundy. Medium bodied with silky tannins and beautiful fluid texture which lingered on and on. The wine is grand to drink now, I have no idea how it will evolve, but I consider my self lucky that I opened it now. How possibly this wine can get better with age? It can only get different, but better no, so if you have just one bottle, then I suggest you drink it now.

We have been holding this in the cellar for over two years. Decided to open it on a Saturday evening after a great home cooked meatloaf dinner. Decanted the bottle for about an hour. Color a beautiful garnet with slight brick tone. Nose was wonderful. Lots going on here cherry, plum, more red fruit driven with some earthiness. Palate was balanced, medium-bodied, no tannins here at all, very smooth and easy to drink. Slightly tart with a hint of allspice on the finish. Overall an outstanding wine. 50,5,14,16,7=92

One of the most wonderful bottles we've ever drank. It seems to me that we opened it at its absolute peak: the tannins were fully resolved even straight from the bottle, although we did carefully decant for 1 hour. Amazingly heady in the glass, dark ruby or garnet, with a nose of cassis, cherry, a light hint of dust. And in the mouth it was a fruit bomb, blackberry, currant, cherry, round and full, with a medium-long finish. It was like velvet in the mouth, not a hint of tannin, as if in the ten minutes before opening, it had finished maturing.
Amazing to think this is a vin de pays. And tragically difficult to find ...

Out of the bottle bouquet and taste were like a great Volnay! During dinner picked up weight but still resembled a classic Burg, as opposed to a wine from the Midi. Vaille apparently has cleaned his cellar, as there was NO BRETT! The best Grange des Peres YET!

Light, very mature looking center with tawny rim. High toned rose, leather, plum, and smoke. Initial aromatic impression is very Burgundian. Light to medium weight, high acidity, and prominent char in addition to the fruit. On one hand, the wood gives the wine some resiny sappiness and length, but the downside is that the longer you taste, the more the exaggerated smokiness of the wood predominates to the exclusion of everything else. Strange wine-seductive at first, but seemingly very advanced for such a young age, and it is difficult to see the underlying material surviving the onslaught of oak.

92-93 pts

Deep garnet red. Mature notes with both primary and dried fruit. Bouquet garni. Extreamly charming and enjoyable tonight. Will most likely last 10 years. A few tasters have had better bottles, but I enjoyed it a lot. Drinkable next day but not at day 3.

once again this was superb, my other notes apply, full bodied with great mourvedre funk on the palate and the nose... barnyard and apricot pits, beautiful lush fruit, nice glycerin mouthfeel, goes down like nectar tho I would describe the non-fruit elements as savory not sweet

drank with Wade on Jep and Andy's first college trip, beautiful wine to have with a spectacular french dinner at Downey's… full bodied but with plenty of acid to balance, as always you can taste the mourvedre on this wine and it gives it a bitter edge to contrast the plentiful red fruit from the cab and syrah, this is one of the best QPR wines in my cellar and always a pleasure, with our without food, two hours plus of air is always beneficial

another great showing for this gem of a wine, on night one it was bright and acidic with rhubarb fruit and pretty/primary (not much of the mourvedre funk), on nights two and three it remained well balanced but became much richer / more med- to full-bodied, and with plenty of fruit but lots of mourvedre funkiness and some rubber ball… great balance on nights two and three and the balance allowed a big delicious wine to be nonetheless "light on its feet"… superb

Rich and savoury. The nose indicates the age, but the taste is brooding with freshness and juicy sweetness, like orange juice. Soft acidity. Big body, full palate, but light and refreshing. On day two more herbal, more dry, with some bitterness of orange zest. Great wine!

Had at Cindy's Backstreet in St. Helena at Jill's 50th bday dinner, we were the only folks in the joint and had a great times, my previous notes apply with one deviation -- more funk / brett on these two bottles stood out so borderline off-putting to some of the guests… still a fantastic bottle of wine this one - for sure

very very nice, a little less powerful than my previous bottles, changed considerable over three hours in decanter, great acid with nice reddish fruits and beautiful funk / barnyard on the nose, funky finish at first but fruit came forward as it aired out, but even then it had some secondary character to make this a real treat

Assez long en finale.

Great red fruits balanced with chocolate and meat, with balanced acidity. Not totally loving the finish, a bit of bite. A bit of new world style here, I like it, just saying

92-93 pts
