  • 2years on from last tasting. Home alone dinner with French lentils 'Petit Sale'. Nose is very brambly, some 'pot pourri' and great freshness in the form of light menthol and herbal tea notes. The tannins are largely resolved for a Barthod but they still show on the back-end with some bite most pleasing to those who adore the mild rusticity offered by old school wine-making. There is resonance to the midpalate between flavors, layers and acidity. The fruit is quite evolved starting to go tertiary while the acidity/tannins chassis is in the best place possible. This drinks at very good 1er level and this is a Barthod in its drinking window a mere 17 years from vintage! This wine is representative of Barthod's style whom I affectionately call the Lafarge of Chambolle. PS: 13.5% ABV. It is not an underpowered wine/vintage fore the era.

  • Given 4 hours of air before pouring. Even, clear ruby. Explosive black cherry and smoke at first. With several more hours in the glass, some menthol and even a bit of citrus. Medium weight, very sappy with chocolate richness. The initial impression is one of being a bit blockish and very round with ripe black and dark red fruit that is not unduly sweet. Over time, it picks up soil notes, the acidity comes to the fore, and it gains in shape and focus. Moderately tannic finish. A big, deep Chambolle-Musigny which has plenty more to say in the future. Excellent.

  • This starts with juicy cherry just like i love it, but after a short while there is almost no sign of burgundy flavors. You can drink it, but it must be slightly corked.

  • Alas, corked sufficiently as to be undrinkable.

  • Very good showing. Dark colour, moderate weight. Fruit feels ripe and quite evolved yet there is no excessive ripeness or heat. Aromas are interesting, ; Away from the floral and peony elements of cooler years to veer towards more herbal elements mixed with some sweetness. Think Ricola sweets and herbal cough drops. Herbal tea also with thyme or verbena. A.more pleasant drink than the 08 which was too acidic and shrill. This is Pinot + terroir so fascinating to observe the very different vintage expressions. Lastly this wine and the vintage seem to have matured relatively quickly. This is very good for current drinking.

  • Popped and poured. This is a very-light-red wine, one that is bright and translucent. The nose is great; it has scents of cherry, spice, strawberry, rosehips, and pastries. The mouth is crisp with flavors of cherry, red apples, and cranberry, all leading to a crisp and mouth-watering finish. Overall, this wine is elegent, seductive, and really terrific. It is a great display of red-fruited Pinot that is ready to enjoy now. 93 points.

  • Not there yet in my opinion. When released, there were claims this was tainted (not cork, but bacterial maybe?)- and while I did not get that specifically, it was not as compelling as I thought it should have been. Right now I'll chalk it up to vintage and not yet mature... but that claim of taint will always be in the back of my mind until this shows something different

  • Light red, needed 30min to blow the funk away, mint, spices, light and feminine, not fully ripe, this bottle may not have been 100% clean

  • Medium ruby. Cherry and more mint than I had appreciated before. Chocolatey and chunky for Chambolle, but excellent complexity, depth of dark red fruit, acidity, and more elegance toward the end. Strong sense of earth carries the finish. This really benefited from 3 hours of oxygenation in the bottle. Should continue to soften and improve.

86-87 pts

  • From magnum, and drinking stunningly well right now. It's very young but already very complex with layers of floral, spicy and lower toned pine/earthy elements around a core of incredibly pure, sappy red fruited flavours. There's wonderful freshness here, a sense of lightness and a delicate touch on the palate, and it's fantastic to sit down and follow over the course of dinner.

  • Very nice wine without being fantastic. Good red berries and a silky sensual texture. Good stuff.

  • Light to medium depth. Tangy red fruits at first, then joined by spice, blueberry and a streak of earth. Light and quite tart to start, but gains texture. A slightly underripe red raspberry liqueur quality to this wine. Carried by its acids rather tannin. For Burgundy lovers, this is all elegance and crispness. To Burgundy bashers, thin and acidic. I am in the former camp-just loved this as a mouthwatering example of Chambolle.
