Long and silky dark fruit and still some tannin and acidity left. Still balanced. Opened and a blind and was extremely well received. Time has treated it well and still has some life left in it. This was delicious.

Groovy, Novy! Spectacular Syrah to the last glass of my final bottle, six years after original purchase. Berries, chocolates, espressos, and spices. All in super smooth texture with a finish that lasts and lasts.

What a fascinating Syrah. You know how they're usually full-throttle, in-your-face, fruit-forward, powerhouses? Well, now 8 years of cellar age have transformed this bottle into a sophisticated palate-tempter, that comes on soft and stays around long. It touches every part of my tongue, never too tart, never too sweet, never too soft, never too tannic. Berries, chocolates, espressos, and spices. Novy? More like Na Zdorovie!

In the life of every fine wine comes an apex, a time when it reaches its finest hours. I spent those hours with Novy last night. What a paragon of pleasure, the fruits of a supreme Syrah soaring high above the Russian River from whence they were born.

Consumed over multiple nights. I wanted a wine with some oomph but not a cab to go with a steak and this wine delivered. The tannins have mellowed enough to just take the edge off. The very dark wine showed really well on the pop and pour on the first night but was even better two nights later. Sad it was my last bottle.

Decanted for five hours and followed over nine hours total. Solid color to the rim. Gamey nose. Smells like freshly skinned white tail deer. Smooth entry with blackberries, game/meat, smoke and earth. From hours 7-9 I started picking up aromas of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee. Extended finish. Stunningly good. One to remember.

Popped and poured and served too cold but still showing well. Peppery, with currants, licorice and touch of citrus. Palate with fine acidity and tannins. Lovely mocha, earth, and pepper finish. Great for the price.

Deep, dark purple color. Crushed blackberries, pepper, smoked meat, vanilla, tar, flowers, and a bit of cherry and baking spices on the very open nose. Medium to full body with solid, chewy tannins and good acidity. Palate initially a bit rough, this will need some air. With air the palate is more focused and tasty. Peppery berries lead the palate with savory notes supplying nice complexity. Nice length on the finish. This needs at least an hour in a decanter or preferably some cellar time.

Dark, moody, fulsome and mysterious. Melange of ripe blackberries, earthy richness, and spicy intrigue on the nose and palate. Long, sensuous finish. A triumph of Syrah worthy of a lusty shout of hurrah!

A little different since last time. The fruit seems a little more blue on the nose with more "meat", and the nose was much more giving. Less fruit on the palate with more earthiness - definitely hot on the end.

Interesting with lots of earth notes. The fruit seemed in the background but was pleasant. Good weight and mouthfeel. Gamey notes tipped this a little off balance for me.

Decanted about an hour. Deep, dark purple color. Brambly berries, loads of pepper, smoked meat, vanilla, baking spices, and tobacco on the very open nose. Medium body with solid, chewy, ripe tannins and very nice acidity. Loads of grip and bite on the palate with the spicy, peppery berries dominating with the more savory elements adding nice complexity. Fairly long finish with just a touch too much oak showing through. All in all, an outstanding syrah that could use a bit more cellar time, unless you are like me and enjoy the chewy tannins.

Pop and pour but consumed over 2 hours. This is the first time I really got the tobacco/cigar on the nose. Nice fruit on the palate. The tannins and acidity have really integrated into this wine and it is rounding out nicely. A nice lengthy finish.

Siduri Tasting (Farpointe Cellar): Gamey and meaty on the nose, with a little cigar box. It had an earthy quality that surrounded the cherry and raspberry. Pepper brought it all together. It was more fruity on the palate than the nose, and the gamey flavors were more in he background.

My last bottle was corked, so I was happy to find dark fruits, a bit of smokey funk, and an increasingly fruity (nowhere near extravagant) finish with air. Overll, not a wine for deep contemplation, but perfect for a hearty pasta dish on a Monday night.

This is on of my favorite "fine" value wines. It pairs with steak or chicken and the fruit bursts forth with vigor. I will be interested to see how this wine ages.

Decanted and drank after about 1 hr without food. The nose was a little muted although cola, chocolate, and dark fruit were evident to me. It combined to smell a bit like Dr. Pepper. Very interesting. The flavors were quite restrained (typical compared to other Sonoma Syrahs that I've had). This is a fairly elegant Syrah - not a fruit bomb. Tart dark fruit (blackberries?) with a little pepper on the palate. Rather short, chocolaty finish. It didn't knock my sock off but it's a nice everyday wine.

Spicy nose, with cinnamon, pepper, sage, burnt toast, and wild berries. Balanced palate with an acidic edge, boysenberry and wild berry going into an intriguing complex finish of charcoal, toast, roasted coffee and tar. Quite good, though the flavor profile with lots of burnt toast/charcoal tar was slightly off putting to me, but tons of interesting spice notes...maybe needs some time to settle down, unlike any syrah I've had before. 90 After a few days open, the nose had a distinct citrus/grapefruit note, with a palate of dense fruit, and herbal streak. Really came together and very tasty. +2 points.
